2016 – 3GUN4VETS InstructionWilmington, OH 18-19 May 2016

Summary:USAR Combat Team Member MAJ Luke Gosnell and MAJBrian Graves both from the 2100 Military Intelligence Grouplocated at Wright Patterson AFB provided two days ofinstruction for former Marines and Purple Heart recipientsChris Bussler and Larry Draughn on 18-19 May. The classintroduced each to sport of 3-Gun competition and acommunity that fosters the exact environment andchallenges that many of our combat vets can relate to.

Goals:3GUN4VETS is an organization of combat veterans headedby CH-47F Instructor pilot CW3 Michael Meehan of theAviation Center of Excellence with the goal to help combatveterans be part of something that encompasses all thevirtuous traits and challenges experience in combat. Throughthe experience of 3-Gun competition, veterans find acommunity and sport they feel comfortable and accepted.They will be able to challenge themselves on the field ofsport surrounded by supporters and once again, feel part ofa team.

2016 – 3GN Southern Regional ChampionshipHoover, AL 2-3 APR 2016

Summary:Semi-Pro shooter USAR-CMP member MAJ Luke Gosnell ofthe 2100 Military Intelligence Group, Wright-Patterson AFB,placed 2nd in the factory (iron sights) division of the 3-GunNation Southern Regional Championship on April 3rd. Thistwo day competition pushed shooters and their equipment tothe limits in fast accurate shooting and firearm transitionsbetween rifle, pistol and shotgun. Stage breakdown, mentalprep, weather, and awkward shooting positions all added tothe dynamics. Luke is making plans to compete in “practical”division (optics) at the Eastern Regional in June and willcompete in several state and local matches between nowand then.

Recruiting Impact:The contact with competitors, facilitators and spectators inshooting sports is making known USARs participationoutside of the traditional service marksmanship sports.Personal contact with young competitors and word of mouthhas enormous potential for recruiting. Recruiting andawareness can further be enhanced specifically throughevent sponsorship and promotion via prize table “swag” andbanners.

2016 – 3GN Southeastern Regional ChampionshipFrostproof, FL 27-28 FEB 2016 at the Universal ShootingAcademy Range

Summary:USAR-CMP Combat Team member, MAJ Luke Gosnell,2100 Military Intelligence Group S3, Wright-Patterson AirForce Base competed amongst 291 participants in the 3-Gun Nation 2016 Southeastern Regional Championship.This competition involved using three different firearms — arifle, a pistol, and a shotgun. Competitors ran throughdifferent style stages from station to station, and engagedtargets in a variety of different positions and conditions. Theevent scoring was overall time plus penalties for accuracy,so speed counted as much as shooting accurately just ascombat marksmanship does. During the competition,participants and spectators experienced 8 multi-gun stagesin free-style format. MAJ Gosnell placed 9th in FactoryDivision (no optics, limited magazine and shotgun capacity.

Recruiting Impact:The exposure of a USAR shooter in a rapidly growing sportamongst competitors and spectators alike shows that theUSAR takes marksmanship seriously through safe firearmsmanipulation and strong character traits of personalresponsibility and sportsmanship. Direct contact with youngcompetitors and word of mouth has enormous potential forrecruiting.

2015 Fort Benning Multi-Gun ChallengeFort Benning, GA 3-6 DEC 2015 on the William E. “Bill”Krilling Range

Summary:The USAR-CMP Combat Team commanded by LTC

Christopher Baer, sent MAJ Luke Gosnell, S3, 2100 MilitaryIntelligence Group, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base tocompete amongst 300 participants in the Fort BenningMulti-Gun Challenge. This competition involved using threedifferent firearms — a rifle, a pistol, and a shotgun.Competitors run through different military themed stagesfrom station to station, and engage targets in a variety ofdifferent positions. It was a timed event, so speed countedas much as shooting accurately. During the competition,participants and spectators experienced 10 multi-gunstages designed to mimic portions of Army training,including airborne, sniper, air assault, master breacher, andsurvival, evasion, resistance and escape. All of the stageswere built and overseen by USAMU Soldiers. MAJ Gosnellplaced 4th in Factory Division (no optics, limited magazineand shotgun capacity.

Recruiting Impact:Action shooting competition such as multi-gun or 3-Gun is

the fastest growing marksman sport in the country. Manyyoung shooters that participated saw first hand safefirearms manipulation and what military training andequipment looks like.
