To mark the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the United States

Embassy, in partnership with Alaska, Saint Louis University, American Corner (AC) Baguio, and

SLU Libraries hosted sports clinics (futsal and basketball) among PWDs on July 11, 2015 at the

Prince Bernhard Gym, SLU.

DECAESTECKER LIBRARYREORGANIZATION

The Decaestecker Library, one of thesatellite libraries , situated at the Navy BaseCampus was reorganized due to the transfer ofthe School of Humanities in January 2015. Thesaid Library continues to serve the informationand research needs of the students, facultymembers, and administrative staff of the Schoolof Humanities. The Library is being managed byMrs. Lourdes A. Llanes.

The AC Baguio spearheaded a Conference on Financial Freedom: Impact on One’s

Life on February 13, 2015 at the 5th Floor Conference Room,

SLU Libraries wherein one of the known Financial and

Investment Company Financial Advisors, Mr. Maurick Muya

of Manulife was invited to give a lecture on how to basically

attain financial freedom.

The participants of the conference were the

personnel of SLU Libraries and a selected group of students.

The Deputy Director of Thomas Jefferson Information

Center (TJIC) of US Embassy-Manila, Mrs. Princess Grace

Wooden likewise joined the said conference.

American Corner Baguio joined SLU-LouisianEnvironmental Management and Audit Committee (LEMAC), NSTP,SLU Libraries, DENR, City Environment and Parks Management,Environmental Management Bureau, SLU Adopted Barangays(DPS, Marcoville, Engineers Hill, and Cabinet Hill), media, andvarious SLU Student Organizations (Gray Matter-School ofTeacher Education, Ecolodians, Green Core Society-School ofAccountancy and Business Management, AWMA-School ofEngineering and Architecture, Biology Club-School of NaturalSciences, SLU-Supreme Student Council (SSC)-KASAMA andSNS-SSC-KASAMA) in celebrating World Water Month with amonth long exhibit, dubbed with the theme: “A Day for Waterand Water for Sustainable Development”.

The exhibit aimed to raise and strengthen environmental awareness with anemphasis on giving importance to conserving water. The said exhibit ran from March 4 to28, 2015 with the following schedule: March 4-7 (Bonifacio Campus); March 9-14(Decaestecker Campus); March 16-21 (SLU-LES); and March 23-28 (Devesse Campus).

The SBLC plays an important role in the organizational structure of theSLU Libraries. It acts as a channel of communication or advisory tofurther improve library collections, resources and services responsiveto the ever changing needs of the academe stakeholders.The Committee is composed of the following: 1. Representatives fromLibraries: Director of Libraries, Section Head Librarian, TechnicalSection Head, and Acquisition Section Head; 2. SchoolRepresentatives: Dean, Department Heads, Graduate ProgramCoordinator, and Students.The SBLC Meeting for the School of Humanities (SOH) for theacademic year 2014-2015, was held on April 24, 2015 at Navy BaseCampus, Baguio City.

PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT

Just l ike other professionals, l ibrarians or information professionals are notdifferent in terms of professional advancement. Librarians are likewise mandated tocontinuously advance themselves in their profession to be responsive to the needs ofthe twenty-first century learning environment and to the ever changing and evolvingsociety. With the emerging knowledge-based environment, librarians should beproactive to be efficient enablers to their stakeholders. This is the key driver for mostof the SLU Information professionals to seek for professional growth and advancementby continuing their professional education and venturing into both local andinternational seminars and trainings. Hence, in the recently concluded SLU Graduationand Commencement Exercises 2015, Section Head Librarian, Mrs. Michelle D. Amblozavictoriously marched as Cum Laude in finishing the degree, Master in Library andInformation Technology (MALIT). To recall, Mrs. Ambloza attended the Lib@Web VLIRScholarship Program at the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 2012. Mrs. Ambloza iscurrently assigned at the Literature and History and Geography collections at the 6thFloor Libraries, Msgr. Charles Vath Library Building.
