Public Hearing 7/26/2018 – US 62 Roadway Improvement Project
Long Term Needs Reduce Access Points – The project area has 43 existingresidential access points and 33 commercial drives (20 timesmore dense than adjacent sections) that reduce roadwayefficiency and degrade safety
Reduce Crash Frequency – The 40,000 average daily traffic(ADT) volume experiences stop-and-go conditions on thissection of US 62 that contributes to a frequency of around 100crashes per year with nearly 30% involving injury crashes
Reduce Congestion – Current traffic bottlenecks occur, andprojected traffic volumes to 2022 and 2042 indicate somelocations will experience poor capacity operations (Levels ofService E and F) under existing roadway
Public Hearing 7/26/2018 – US 62 Roadway Improvement Project
No-BuildThe no-build alternative includes short-term minor maintenance activities only and serves as a baseline against which other alternatives can be compared
Maintains the existing alignment, access points and traffic signals along US 62
Includes minor programmed transportation improvements included in the SCATS 2040 Long Range Plan and the SCATS Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) but no long-term fixes
Does not meet the purpose and need of the project
Public Hearing 7/26/2018 – US 62 Roadway Improvement Project
Alternatives The Feasibility Study (March 2017) evaluated 12 alternatives (including No Build) shown in the table below
The Preferred Alternative selected is Alternative G1-d3a as this alternative meets the safety needs by limiting access, reducing congestion and improving curve geometry, as well as addresses stakeholder and public comment concerns of providing access to US62 for the neighborhood and commercial properties
