In New York, the Giants and Yankees met at the Polo Groundsto play an unscheduled charity game to raise moneyfor the survivors of the Titanic (which had sunk three days earlier, April 14th). The Giants prevailed 11-2.

In 1912, the New York Highlanders changed their name to the Yankees and debuted their famous pinstriped uniforms.

In the 1912 Stockhom Olympics, Jim Thorpe was aRecord Setting Gold Medalistin both the Pentathlon and DecathlonKing Gustav V of Sweden said,“Sir, you are the greatest athlete in the world.”

But Thorpe was stripped of his medals because he had once playedon a semi-pro baseball team.
