The idea of forming a medical clinic for group practice was implemented in 1920 by David Barrow, MD, and Waller Bullock, MD. With seven other physicians, Drs. Barrow and Bullock formed a partnership, patterned after the Mayo Clinic, that became Lexington Clinic.

1920Lexington Clinic is founded by Drs. David Barrow, Waller Bullock and seven other physicians.

1925Dr. Donnan Harding joined Lexington Clinic as the first trained radiologist in Lexington. He was a pioneer in both diagnostic and therapeutic X-ray, establishing the first radiology department in Lexington.

2004Lexington Clinic installed the first 16-slice CT scanner in Lexington that could rotate around a patient’s body in only a half of a second.

2006Dr. Richard Floyd, IV, performed the first thoracic ablation surgery for atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Elmer S. Maxwell was the first pathologist in

Lexington. Under Dr. Maxwell’s guidance,

with the cooperation of the University of

Kentucky, Lexington Clinic established a school for medical

technologists.

1920

Lexington Clinic physicians developed the first cardiac

care unit in Lexington at Saint Joseph Hospital.

1960s

Dr. Alexis Norelle, Neurosurgery, performed

the first artificial disc spine surgery in Lexington.

2005

Lexington Clinic became the only medical group practice

in Kentucky accredited by the Accreditation

Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

20142015Lexington Clinic neurosurgeons begin operating with Airo Mobile Intraoperative CT technology, becoming the first in Kentucky to utilize this equipment.
