General information

Most of the Phoenix Contactterminal blocks are switchable in oneway or the other. By "switchableterminal blocks " we mean threestandard types . These are mainlyemployed in the field of generatingand supplying electrical current. They are therefore designed to meetthe various prevailing switchingrequirements of the currenttransformer secondary circuits inthis area.

The individual terminal blockranges differ from one another onthe basis of their switching principle:

Normal mode connection feed-through terminal blocks . As withthe UGSK . . ., the feed-throughterminal blocks URKN/S andURK-ND can be convenientlyconnected in normal modeaccording to the application.Three terminal blocks are

necessary for the standardcurrent transducer circuits.Common mode disconnectterminal blocks . The simple testdisconnect terminal block,URTK/S-BEN can only beswitched in common mode . As aresult of the space-savingconstruction, this terminal blockallows conductors of up to16 mm 2 to be connected on awidth of only 8 mm.Universal modular terminalblocks that can be connected innormal and common mode . Theuniversal test disconnectterminal blocks URTK . . . can beconnected in normal mode aswell as in common mode . Onlytwo terminal blocks are requiredfor a current transducer testcircuit.

Normal modefeed-through terminal blocksUGSK/S

The construction of these feed-through terminal blocks with theirsimple test connection facilitiesoriginates from a time when the so-called isolator bridge bars were morecommonly used . For a standardcurrent transducer test connection, three terminal blocks connected withan isolator bridge bar are required. The four basic circuits (normaloperation, measured value testing, transformer short circuit and relaytesting) can be realized by inserting orremoving the bridge screws.

Common modetest disconnect terminal blocksURTK/S-BEN

These disconnect terminal blockspermit simple circuit tests.

The connection screws have asocket shaft for 4 mm 0 test plugs, which makes it possible to performcurrent measurements withoutinterrupting the operation.Neighboring terminal blocks can bebridged by means of the short circuitplug . Fixed cross connections areproduced with the help of insertionbridges .

Normal modefeed-through terminal blocksURK-ND

This terminal block range is theconstructional symbiosis of the classicswitch terminal blocks on the onehand while satisfying the modernrequirements of electric supplycompanies on the other.

The terminal block is providedwith two auxiliary connections forfixed bridges or switch bars.Independent cross connections toboth neighboring terminal blocks canbe produced in this way.

All switching tasks in secondarycircuits can be easily and convenientlycarried out with three terminalblocks.

Common/normal mode universaltest disconnect terminal blocksURTK/S and URTK/SP

These terminal blocks make allrelevant test connections in currenttransducer secondary circuitsextraordinarily easy to use . They haveone common mode disconnect sectionand two auxiliary connection points fornormal mode connections . Theseauxiliary connections are on both sidesof the disconnect point so disconnectableor fixed cross connections can be madeto neighboring terminal blocks on theload side and on the equipment side.

Only two terminal blocks are neededfor a simple current transducer test circuit .

Normal modeslide-type terminal blocksUGSK/S

These feed-through terminalblocks with the convenientconnection facility have beencompletely geared to therequirements of current transformersecondary circuits . For this reason, particular attention has been paid to:

Electrically safe switchconnectionsUnambiguous identification ofcircuit and switching statusReliable and convenient operationof the captive accessories.Three terminal blocks are

necessary for the standard currenttransducer circuits.

The design of these terminal blocksoriginates from a time when isolator bridgebars were more commonly used . This led tosufficient space in the terminal center forsubsequent insertion of the isolator bridge.New features are the use of thermo-plastic,the universal foot that allows assembly onboth the r' DIN rail and the , r rail, as wellas the finger-safe version of these terminalblocks.

These terminal blocks have the samepitch and shape as the previous RKN,RKN/S and RTK-BEN terminal blocks, sothat they can be easily replaced formaintenance and inspection work.

The URKN models are suitable for useas independent terminal blocks for currenttransducer test circuits and also forcombinations with the UGSK slide-typeterminal blocks and the URTK disconnectterminal blocks.

URKN-A coupling terminal blocksIn modern meter cabinets, the meters

and other equipment are mounted onreplaceable panels . The panel wiring isconnected to a terminal strip with thebracket model, URKN-A . The arrangementand design of this terminal stripcorresponds to a terminal strip located inthe fixed part of the cabinet and consistingof standard URKN terminal blocks . In theevent of an inspection, the panel can bereplaced, thereby saving time .

This normal mode connection terminalblock is tailor-made to the requirements ofcurrent transducer secondary circuits . Forthis reason, particular attention has beenpaid to:

Electrically safe switch connectionsUnambiguous identification of circuitand switching status, andReliable, convenient operation of thecaptive accessories.A sliding plane with captive slide nut is

provided between the two connectionscrews . The complete range of switchingaccessories such as slides, switch bars, andtest sockets can be screwed into this plane. The wide range of accessories provides anoptimum solution to all switching tasks.

In order to prevent the screwdriverfrom slipping when operating the slide, thescrew head has a non-slip collar. Ifnecessary, the groove on the slide can beused as a guide . All metal parts projectingabove the housing are coated withinsulation spray.

URK-ND switchable terminalblocks

URK-NDAll switching tasks in secondary circuits

can be carried out easily and convenientlywith this terminal block.

It has two auxiliary connections for fixedbridges or switch bars . Independent crossconnections to neighboring terminal blockscan be produced . In the center of theterminal block there is a 4 mm 0 sockethole which allows test connections at anytime with the PS test plug.

URK-ND 2Characteristic of these terminal blocks

are the two terminal screws per terminal. The field of application for these terminalblocks is wherever safety-related conditionsspeak for double clamping.

The usual switching tasks can beperformed in the terminal center.

This range permits simple circuit teststhanks to the robust disconnect point.

Switching is extremely practical:There is no need to put the screwdriverdown and it does not slip out of the screw.

The connecting screws on URTKIS-BENand URTK/S-BEN 10 have a socket shaft for4 mm 0 test plugs . It is therefore possible, for example, to carry out currentmeasurements without interruptingoperation or to bridge neighboring terminalblocks with the short circuit plug.

Fixed cross connections are establishedvia insertion bridges and switchableconnections via two and four-position shortcircuit plugs-

Test disconnect and slide-typeterminal blocksURTK 6 and UGSK 6

High safety, clear operation anduniversal application — these are theoutstanding features of the new switchableterminal blocks with screw connection fromPhoenix Contact.

Specially developed for use in secondaryconverter circuits, the terminal blocks haveauxiliary connections on both sides for fixedbridges and switch bars, and for mounting4 mm 0 test sockets at the same time.

The terminal blocks and accessories arefinger-safe in acc . with BGV A 2 . Maximumsafety for the staff is thus guaranteed.

It goes without saying that all switchingstatuses are clearly recognizable and theaccessories are perfectly simple to use.

Note:Test disconnect and slide-type terminal

blocks with spring-cage connection can befound on page 154 .

Slide-type terminal blocksIn order to prevent having to put the

screwdriver down during work on the slide-type bridge, the screw head has a slip-proofcollar. The housing and all the accessoriesare touch-proof in acc . with BGV A 2.

UGSK 6

Universal test disconnect terminalblock

Only two terminal blocks are requiredfor a current transducer test circuit . Thismeans fewer terminal blocks and less spacerequired compared to a circuit with feed-through terminal blocks.

Like the slide-type terminal block, thetest disconnect terminal block andaccessories are touch-proof in acc . withBGV A 2 .

Universal test disconnectterminal blocks, URTK/SP

1wt3C t~ flrlr''T I'A ral g,FgM

This universal test disconnect terminalblock satisfies all demands as far as clarity ofthe circuit, switching convenience, operational ease and shock protection areconcerned.

The terminal block has a fully enclosedi .e . finger-safe, unbreakable 6 .6 polyamideinsulation housing with a universal footallowing reversible installation on allcommercially available EN mounting rails.

The cross connection points for fullyinsulated, two or four-position switch barsor fixed bridges are located between theconnection screw and the disconnect slide. The finger-safe test sockets for safety testplugs with 4 mm 0 have been moved to theoutside to facilitate access to the disconnectslide and the switch bar, and to provideimproved visibility of the switching statusand the marking labels.

Its sister model, feed-throughterminal block URTKD/SP, has a fixed, welded current bridge instead of thedisconnect slide.

The German manufacturer of safety testconnectors is:
