My Name is Rommy Weffer, I am your Host.I am 22 years old and study graphic design, I lovetravelling and meeting people.I need to learn languages because I might liveoutside venezeula one day.This Podcast is about English at the Urbe and English inVenezuela and I am going to present myself and my backgroud a bitthrough the show.I have three students here:Ileana, Ana and Sondra.

• Ileana: Hi• Ana: Hello• Sondra: hey• Rommy: I want to talk with you guys about what reasons

you have to learn english and what experience you have with your english and i fit is easy for you.

• Ileana: I study languages French and enlgish, because I would love to travel.

• Ana: and what do you find easier?• Ileana: French,, I find it easier and I like it more?• Rommy: really?, I allways wanted to learn French it is

more similar to spanisch.

• Sondra: I am doing my classes in English but I should be better, I study filming and all the movie world is in english.

• Ileana: but there are some French films..• Rommy: Yeah your right, maybe we talk about that

more in one of the next shows.• Ana: I am also learning English in University but I also

should be better…• Rommy: I also should be better in English, I travelled

alot to germany with my husband and more people speak english there, it is easier for them.

• Ileana: As french is for us spanish speakers.• Rommy: why do you think that is so.• Ana: maybe because Spansish and French come from

latin? They are more related and so it easier for us to learn it

• Sondra: that must be a reason• Rommy: my husband says it ist he same reason why

Americasn mostly don´t speak other languages We do not need to he says, because we are so many talking spanish we don`t need to learn. It is very sad that we have so little culture of foreign languanges in Maracaibo altrough we have a lot of foreigners.

• Sondra: and most of the movies are English!!• Ana: i always read the subtitles• Rommy: in germany all are translated to german….but

in denmark and the netherland not• Ileana: and is their english better

• Rommy: yeah, much better..in germany I say some people have good english in Denmark and Sweden and the netherlands nearly all people

• Ana: maybe they have to, because they have so small countries

• Sondra: and theis movies also have subtitles• Rommy: subtitles is much better.• Ileana: yes..but there should be more french films.• Rommy: You think our presidents Anti-Americanism has

something to do with the situation in venezuela:• Ana: maybe,

• Ileana: I don´t see a lot of excachange students form America here..

• Rommy: no not really..• Sondra: i think they might be afraid• Rommy: that is sad they shuldn´t• Ileana: yes..i would be nice to have more contact to

english speaking people in university• Rommy: I would love that..

• Rommy: Hi girls, Girls together: Hi• Rommy: so what are you favorite gadgets, • Sondra: My laptop and my Digital camera• Ileana: yes you always take it with you• Ana: I have my cell phone and my computer...but they

are not that important for me• Sondra: I hate not to have my camera around• Ileana: since she has the camera we have a lot of

pictures from the party's and the friends..

• Rommy: yeah that is cool I also have a small camera to carry with me

• Ileana: i love my new computer and Internet is so cool• Rommy: I couldn't imagine the world without internet it

made the world so small, I couldn't live without it.• Ana: no, you and image graphic design without

computers..• Rommy: yeah, can't imagine it anymore• Sondra: and I would have to use scissors to cut my

movies...no I would miss my computer so much...

• Rommy: but what to you think about Ipod`s and fancy Cell-Phones. they are not essential like computers, but people love it

• Ileana: yes, when the Ipod was new all the girls with money had one and carried it in the Sambil

• Ana: yeah, but that is more to show of• Rommy: I have and Ipod but I would not use it while

being with my friends• Ileana: never, that is more fashion like the new cell

phones..• Ana: you don't need a new cell phone every half year

• Sondra: no, I would rather get a new camera..• Rommy: if you could choose one new toy what would

you buy• Sondra: a canon digital camera, a big one with while

lenses• Rommy: yes they are so cool, I'd get me a new Mac

Book pro• Ileana: yes those are nice. but my computer does the

same• Ana: but it is not that nice, but I would like one too • Ileana: ah, I am happy with my computer. but a small

good camera would be nice• Rommy: they are so handy

• Ana: ..I would also like a big I pod to put all the music in, from all my friends

• Rommy: MPs were the best invention ever, only that Pop stars don't love it because they sell less CDS. In Germany it is really a crime to download “stolen” music. people who download a lot get arrested and have to pay a fee

• Ileana: really• Ana: imagine in Venezuela, no one buys cds.. All girls: “laughing”

• Rommy: even the DJS use MP3s now • Ileana: I still like the old Vinyl more, has more class• Rommy: might be, but imagine how much easier it is to

carry just a laptop and not the heavy cases..• Ana: yes much easier• Rommy: for us as graphic designers everything got

easier with computers and digital cameras..• Ana: yes, it gets easier but we have to learn new things

to. we have to create content for WebPages, everything has to be fast, we have to learn to use all the technologies

• Sondra: sometimes I feel that all that new technologies lacks style, Look at the new movies. just special effects and no story.

• Rommy: that is true...like transformers or star wars...it est. boring..That is why I love films with real actors

• Ana: sure, it gets boring• Rommy: well in the end, I think new toys are good for

us, but still we have to stay creative, It gets normal and in the end human creativity is important, still this is why I love the Mac Book..

• Ileana: let it go..

• Rommy: yeah, your right. but I need it. that is the problem with these things. they are new, they are cool and we need to buy them. if they weren't so expensive

• Sondra: if I had enough money...I had such a nice computer and camera..

• Rommy: and that never changes. the things get better and one needs to buy it.. I hope you had some fun with me and you want to join me next week for Urb(e) jungle about the freshest movies.

I invited my girls: Sondra, Ileana and Ana again

Introductions

• Rommy: For me there were a few very good movies this year, in all genres..

• Sondra: Hollywood seemed to like movies with actors again and o well also big robots..

• Ana: I loved Shrek• Ileana: It is nice to have movies with a message• Rommy: Yes this is true, maybe now that everything that

was possible was done, had been filmed. they got bored and more important we got bored and they need a story again

• Sondra: like Departed• Ileana: and a lot of politics in the movies

• Rommy: Yes: Blood Diamants and Last king of Scotia were so good. so good actors

Both main actors deserved and Oscar.• Ana: yes, really intense, they make you think• Rommy: It is hard to tell which was the best movie... Well for action. I think 300, also the graphics and the

filming were awesome, cruel but with such a nice attitude..

• Sondra: yes such a nice artwork• Rommy: WE ARE SPARTA• Ileana: that was so cool,• Ana: and they looked so sexy

• Rommy: I knew you would say that...• Ileana: come on you know that it is true• Sondra: all girls and I think all gays loved that film

because of the sexy warrior• Rommy: and the straight me too. because they can feel

like if they were one of the 300, real Spartans Best filming for me. it was the same director that did Sin

City, but I like 300 much more..• Sondra: Sin city was good, but he matured his style of

filming• Rommy: and what do you think was the worst film. I

have a few candidates..

• Ileana: night in the museum?• Rommy: no. maybe transformers or the new scary

movie. that was really bad..• Sondra: yes both not very good• Rommy: for me also Babel was disappointing, compared

to Blood Diamonds and last king o Scotia...filing was good, music was great. but still i just seemed a bit fake..

• Sondra: maybe to much publicity by Brat Pitt..• Rommy: I also loved both films about Iwo Jima directed

by Clint Eastwood, great movies. and really intense and a nice, need approach to the genre of war films.

• Ana: i haven't seen them• Rommy: really good...I like the trend that a lot of to old

good and rich actors start to make good films now: Roberto De´niro, Clint Eastwood etc..

• Sondra: Clint Eastwood was always the best cowboy• Rommy: tell me your favorite movie sentence:• Ileana: “Luke, I am your father”• Sondra: Sparta!!!!!!!!!!!• Rommy :that is no a lot.

• Sondra: but it was so cool• Ana: Last king of Scotia: This is Real, THIS IS AFRICA• Rommy: that was cool...he played Idi Amin so great• Rommy: I think that we came to a moment in movie

history were actors and story get much more important, since everything is possible now. It started with Star Wars and now it king off ended with Star wars again

Everything is possible, they can film everything now every dream comes true

But it doesn't made for good movies with actors, atmosphere are story, a message. And that is what I love about the art of movies.. it is not all about the special effects, in the end story is the most important. Although, movies like transforms make a lot of money...movies with a message also make profit and might even influence the public to think about certain thinks (like diamonds). • Rommy: so how life for you as students??• Sondra: it is so cool, you learn things you like but have

some time for yourself too and you get to know nice people

• Ana: yes, live is really good as student• Ileana: yes and away form HOME• Rommy: yeah...Could it be better• Ileana: there should be more university party's and life

after school

• Rommy: yes that would be cool You go out at night and always see the same

faces...although we a have like fifty thousand students in Maracaibo

• Ileana: that is because it is so expensive to go out• Ana: also because their parents don't let them go• Sondra: yes, not all are living always from their parents• Rommy: yes, for a lot of us university away from the

family is sad but also a very good experience• Ileana: yes, sometimes I miss my mom, but then it is

also good that I can do what i want.

• Rommy: yes. so what do you think about the demonstrations this year

• Ana: I think we should have done more• Sondra: well at least one could feel that unity between

the young people in Venezuela in all university's• Rommy: maybe it was too late,. talking with students I

often feel that one now that they work hard, study 3 semesters a year for nothing. bad paid jobs and no future

• Sondra: i hope it doesn't get that bad, I hop ether will be jobs

• Rommy: well until that we should enjoy what we have

• Ileana: I love studying but I ma so lazy sometimes• Rommy: who is not...about lazy. what do you think about

social service??• Ana: I hate it..• Sondra: i don't want to go. but then feel that it is a good

idea to help other people• Rommy: in other countries young people have to do

much more for their country. they have to serve in the military or make long alternative services..

So it is not that bad..

• Ileana: but we should do something useful, sometimes I feel like they just put us to work without sense. and we could do good things..

• Rommy: this sound good. what do you mean• Ileana: we are painting a school. but why? If there are so

many men without job on the street who could do it. I would love to work raising the kids teaching them, you know. I would love to do something useful

• Ana: you right, I hate to paint, when I see some fat parents in front of the school watching doing nothing!!!!

• Rommy: yes...me too. there is a lot of room for improvement, but it is a new thing

• Ileana: i also think that it is dangerous that we had no transport an protection!!!

• Rommy: yes. I think the government should have organized a transport and a safe one..

Not all are rich kids with a car or have a job. and even with an own car it is dangerous.

• Sondra: yes. they have to provide a transport, since it was their idea it is their responsibility..

• Rommy: ok i think we have an important point here. stay tuned for the program same place same time
