Smart city is common heard recently but what does it mean for us? Nowadays it is the rise of “me” and we actually want to know what is in it for us.

Let’s say it first; yes you can connect to Wi-Fi to surf through your favorite applications such as Instagram. However, there is more to it. The management of huge metropolitans is being made possible via smart city applications. Actually, it is the inevitable because resources are limited. As humankind, we need to find wise solutions to survive. Increasing population pushes us to be more creative. Thus we had to combine ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies to monitor big data and manage the efficient use of resources and supply energy on demand. Collaterally, this kind of technology uses advanced networking systems which also allows integrating side benefits through applications.

Smart city is your home enlarging to outdoor spaces. It’s all about making things possible. As the lighting company, we are just delighted to introduce you our take on smart cities. This time not only with charging your EV but also offering various light and connectivity preferences.

WHY AND HOW CAN CITIES BE SMART?

OUR SOLUTION ADDS VALUEURBAN UNITS

Nowadays lighting is not only about lighting a space but also providing more functions that add value. Wherever there is a building or a public venue, there comes a lighting solution to sustain better visibility during night time. Urban Units is a modular solution to fulfil potential tasks besides lighting. It is a connectivity hub compatible with smart city applications. It makes perfect sense to use lighting columns for integration because lighting fixtures are already connected to city infrastructure and commonly found on almost every outdoor urban space.

Start implementing your smart lighting strategy!

Through sensors, local authorities can collect anonymous data and optimize managerial tasks such as planning maintenance at the less crowded hours and improve traffic jam.

Location data, provided by the luminaires, can be used to send push notifications for informative and promotional purposes. Similarly, sensors can be used for finding parking lot and informing drivers about weather conditions. With connectivity module, Urban Units go way beyond a traditional luminaire. Enlarging city network through lighting columns such as Urban Units offers flexibility. Whether it is a new urban compound or a historical downtown, Urban Units is a compact solution with easy maintenance.

The Modular

With an Urban Units lighting column, a project designer can achieve tasks with ease. The lighting unit has various options that can be combined to each other. The lighting column also houses several module options to integrate connectivity functions. Thus one can customize it with speaker, Wi-Fi and sensor modules. The EV Charger module reflects the solution for smart urban growth.

TOP MODULEUrban Units top module is the essential lighting module for urban spaces. Complementing the modern look of the fixture with the symmetrical illumination all around, with Urban Units; parks, squares and campuses are livelier and safer. With the use of latest technology LED chips and lenses, it is possible to cover large areas with high lux and uniformity levels. All of this is done by minimizing the spill light and making sure there is no up light at all. After all, the logic behind Urban Units is respecting the nature!

STREET LIGHTING MODULEThe street lighting module of Urban Units is solely optimized for roads and streets. It has an asymmetrical light distribution which is perfect for illuminating small streets, pedestrian crosses, bike paths etc.

FLOODLIGHT MODULEFloodlight module of Urban Units uses Heper’s Hybrid optical modules. It is a feasible solution for lighting applications in landscape areas. With spot or flood optics, important objects such as monuments, signs, facades etc. can be illuminated. With hybrid optics, a lens and a reflector is combined to achieve the perfect beam angle with no scattering and minimized glare. All of the lighting modules of Urban Units can be combined with different light and connectivity modules in desired orders. Each module can be aligned with a 360 degree freedom.

TOP MODULE DYNO D Equipped with Heper’s Dyno D LED ModuleIndirect lighting with reflector technologySymmetrical or asymmetrical area lighting optics

OPTIONAL LIGHT RING It is available in red, blue, green or white with 1 or 2 alternating colours. You can also add a flashing light option.

Camera ModuleIntegrated CCTV in Urban Units’ camera housing makes continuous area monitoring possible. With Urban Units, your city is “safer and sounder”.

Speaker ModuleIntegrated speaker within Urban Units also increases the level of security within a zone. Public announcements in case of an emergency make evacuations easier. The module can also be used to play music. Your options are unlimited! from booming joyful songs to support local parades to humming melodies to enhance a peaceful park environment. Urban Units redefine your smart lifestyle!

Wi-Fi ModuleConnectivity starts with the Wi-Fi module. Thanks to technological improvements, electrical components have reached minimum size enabling us to integrate them in our luminaires. With the Wi-Fi module your connectivity options are enlarged to outdoor spaces! Wi-Fi module is not only for individual use, it also makes possible to collect data for local authorities.

EV ChargerAccording to UNFPA, it is expected to have 20 million electric vehicles all around by the year 2020. Using sustainable energy has utmost importance for a clean environment. With the help of power transfer through Urban Units’ base module, supplying power to electrical vehicles all around urban areas is possible. This option is also available in Urban Units’ complementary bollard version, Urban Bollard. Moreover, EV charging through lighting columns is an easier choice than converting existing gas stations.

Various SensorsUrban Units’ module housing is adequate to implement various sensors to solve urban challenges. In the past, sensors in lighting fixtures were limited to recognizing motion to control the light. Now, with IOT being introduced in our lives, various sensors can be used to obtain data and give information accordingly. This lays out unlimited possibilities to enhance urban living. Different scenarios from gunshot detection to emergency calls via sound sensor or monitoring air quality are all possible in a single lighting column. This is a perfect solution for the urban retrofit challenge!

Our Complementary Solution: URBAN BOLLARDUrban Units actually has a smaller sibling sharing the same environment. Urban Bollard! With its complementary look and unmatched optics, it is the perfect little bollard for various applications.

Using Heper’s Dyno optical module, a shell type small reflector, a beautifully illuminated half circle with about 10m radius is achieved. Moreover the power outlets within the module increases the bollards area of use such as EV charging.
