TASK 3  Documenting the directors’ visual style in the Case Study films  Now you have made detailed notes on your director’s style, you will document these in a visual format.  Using the same structure as the mind map you made your notes on, make a prezi or powerpoint that documents your findings.  Give as much detail as possible, this will go onto the blog and will be used by the class for revision purposes. YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL 3 TASKS IN SECTION ONE BY BREAK

SECTION 1 – The Director’s Visual Style

TASK 1 –Kassovitz’s use of visual style in La Haine 

  For this task you will work individually.

  Scroll down to the Prezi on Matthieu Kassovitz in La Haine. Click through the path and

make notes on Kassovitz’s visual style in La Haine.

SECTION 2 – Analysis of the Director’s Visual Style 

  For this section, you will work in 4 groups

  In section 1, you identified the visual style of one of the case study film’s director. For

section 2, you will now analyse how his visual style is conveyed in his film.

TASK 1 – Analysis of the director’s visual style in the Case Study Film 

  Select 3 sequences from the film

o  Choose sequences that you feel best conveys the director’s visual style, messages

and values.

o  Each sequence should be between 3 to 5 minutes.

  Using the grid to help you, for each sequence, analyse the use of:

o  narrative techniqueso  use of camera

o  editing

o  mise-en-scene

o  soundo  characters

o  the city

  Also identify where features of the director’s more general visual style and recurrent

themes in the film (or across his work) can be seen to offer messages and values in the

sequence.

  Your notes must be detailed and you must have specific examples from each sequence to

support your ideas about how the technical elements are used to communicate meaning.

You have 20 minutes to complete this task

TASK 2 – Documenting your analysis

  You now need to visually document your analysis of the director’s visual style using either

Camtasia to annotate your chosen sequences or using the flip cameras to make a director’s

commentary.

  Each group member will create a separate Camtasia document or have some individualinput for each of the sequences you analysed

  When finished, you will upload your document to the blog as a revision document.

You have 30 minutes to complete this task
