1 Urban Renewal Authority Open Call for Mural Art Practitioners for “Community Beautification Projects” Project Content The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) promotes the placemaking approach in its urban renewal projects. Through redevelopment, rehabilitation, preservation, revitalisation and retrofitting, it is hoped that communities can be reconnected, historical and cultural characteristics preserved. Open Call for Mural Art Practitioners Following the beautification of building exteriors and hawker stalls in the streets adjacent to H6 CONET in early 2019, the URA is now inviting mural practitioners to submit Expression of Interest for a new round of community beautification projects. Successful applicants after shortlisting, will have an opportunity to be commissioned for the beautification projects. Target: Mural art practitioners who are interested in local community culture, and possess at least 4 years of relevant creative experiences. Location: Building exteriors, street facilities, indoor community space, etc. Creative Direction: Targeting the general public and community members Reflecting the historical and cultural characteristics of the district Conveying positive messages to the public Utilizing or incorporating features of the surrounding environment and/or facilities (e.g. pipes) Containing engaging elements (e.g. 3-dimensional illusion, virtual/realistic design composition) Exchanging creative concepts with incorporated owners and management parties Welcoming use of different artistic styles and creative medium Not containing commercial elements Project Stages: Stage 1: Artists/creative groups submit an Expression of Interest Form for URA’s assessment. Interested parties (individual or group) may submit a duly completed and signed Expression of Interest Form attached with a Personal Art Portfolio by 6pm on 6 September 2019, via email to [email protected] or by hand/mail in sealed envelope to Ms. Ma, Urban Renewal Authority, 26/F COSCO Tower, 183 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong. Please mark “Expression of Interest – Open Call for Mural Art Practitioners for Community Beautification Projects” in the email subject or on the envelope. Late submission will not be accepted by the URA. For enquiries, please contact Mr. Choi (2588 2398) or Ms. Ma (2588 2686). Results of the open call for mural art practitioners is targeted to be announced in September 2019.

* * * * * Reference: Previous Community Beautification Projects by the URA In early 2019, the URA invited several artists to beautify the building exteriors and hawker stalls in the streets adjacent to H6 CONET in Central. Through the communications and thoughts exchanges with building representatives and hawker stall owners, the artists created works combining art and community elements, which helped to increase interest of the residents, pedestrians and tourists in community culture, and deepened their understanding of people and stories of the community.

Beautification of hawker stalls in the streets adjoined to H6 CONET (Tung Man Street and Gilman Street)

About H6 CONET The H6 CONET community space in Central connects six adjoining streets with a design blending cultural and historical elements of the district. It also features indoor greening and leisure seating area which are intended to provide ‘places connecting the community and places for the community’. With a daily footfall of 8,000, it is a place where many people working in Central enjoy meals and rest.
