A wise man said, “Find work you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

This has proven true for me specially with the work I do for Mommy Mundo - organizing events for moms, coming up with publications to share information on motherhood. Just being in touch with fellow moms has been a blessing! It’s something I’m passionate about and reaching other moms has given my life such fulfillment. However as the year started, I get busier and busier and find bigger tasks ahead of me. I have realized the need to “let go, and let grow.“

Next issue, I turn over my role as Urban Mom editor-in-chief to a good friend of mine, whom you’ll meet very soon. This was a hard decision to make, much like giving a child his freedom. (I bet it’s going to feel somewhat the same when my eldest comes to me in the not-so-distant future to tell me that he wants to be on his own!) But I know that I am placing Urban Mom in the best of hands to make it even better and richer, and able to touch even more moms in the metro.

I stay on as “editor-at-large,” watching closely, taking a peek and once in a while dipping my fingers in —and I know I will just marvel soon at how much my “baby” has grown.

Thank you for all your support!Kudos, mommies!

From the bottom of my heart,

THAT’S WHY SHE’S ONLY TOO HAPPY TO HAVE THE PEOPLE SHE LOVES

HELP HER WITH THE KIDS.

Page 7: Urban Mom 2011 February-March

However, it is also during those days when Ria thanks her lucky stars for the wonderful support system she has at home. Unlike some women who just grin and bear it, Ria knows when to ask for help.

Her advice to fellow moms: “Don’t think that you have to do everything yourself.” Indeed, Ria is thankful that her husband, Alaska assistant coach Luigi Trillo, is happy to help take care of the kids. When he’s at work, she can always count on her mom and dad to pitch in too.

“I don’t pretend to be a superwoman,” Ria says, whose practical philosophy is helping her raise three beautiful children: Rocio, 7; Mikel, 3; and three-month-old Raquel.

Raising ThreeOne by one, Ria’s beautiful children made an appearance during our cover pictorial. First off was hyper-lively Rocio. Though she had just come from school, Rocio quickly entertained us with her science experiments and asked our stylists to put some curls in her hair. She’s so loquacious that Mom had to quiet her down every so often. Baby Raquel was sweet and no-fuss,

“There are days when everybody wants to have a piece of me,” says Ria Tanjuatco Trillo, wife, mother, and television host. It is during those days when Ria calms herself down, takes a deep breath, and moves on to the next mini-emergency.

We all know what Ria’s talk-ing about. When there are kids around the house, small ones most especially, everything is an emergency. When the baby wakes up, he cries for mommy. When toddler nicks his knee, he howls for mommy. Everybody wants mommy.

sleeping most of the time. Mikel woke up from his afternoon nap to gamely join the girls in the garden.

While raising three kids is definitely a handful, Ria seems to be taking it all in stride. Like most moms, she’s learned that each child is different, blessed with unique personality quirks though raised in the same home. Every pregnancy is different as well. In her case, it just got more and more difficult.

“Rocio was the easiest,” she recalls. At the time, she was 25 years old. When she got preg-nant with Mikel a few years later, however, Ria had to go on bed rest during her first trimester; she experienced subchorionic hemor-rhaging. Though there were no such complications during her last pregnancy, she did experience a general feeling of fatigue. Perhaps it was because the pregnancy came as a surprise; she wasn’t prepared physically. However, Ria is happy to note that it is with Raquel that she’s had her best breastfeeding experience. Not only has she been able to express more milk, she is now more confident about breast-feeding. It comes easily for her.

While Ria is the first to admit that the whole parenting shebang can be stressful, she says, “It’s so much fun!” She likes hanging out with her kids. This summer, she’s

planning a couple of day trips so they can lie under the sun and maybe play with some sand. Because her husband works through the summer, long trips are out of the question. So, she’ll make sure to keep the kids busy with swimming lessons and play dates.

Keeping the FlameSo involved is Ria in the mommy thing that her husband sometimes complains. That’s why date nights are a must for this couple. Last year, Ria and Luigi were able to go on a grand date in the United States. Knowing that traveling would be out of the question after the baby comes, the couple took an extended vacation in Santa Monica and San Diego. In Santa Monica, they went to Disneyland and Universal Studios, and had picnics at the beach. In San Diego, they went to see all these historical sites and for some reason, ended up going to a lot of haunted places. It was the perfect time for them to reconnect and rediscover one another while preparing themselves for the newest addition to their family, something that all couples should do every once in a while.

Don’t think that you have to do

everything yourself.”

We asked urban moms:“What do you know now that you didnt know before you became a mom?”

Although I’ve always known about unconditional love it was only after the birth of my son that I truly experienced the depths of selfless love (from my mom and bf )as they assisted me through recovery and I look at my son and know that I would do the same for him!

-Michelle Mari-Davis with her mom and baby Gabriel

Being a new mom again after 14 years wasn’t so hard--or so I thought. The years have erased the memory of all the long sleepless nights, the 3am feedings, the crying, and endless diaper changes. It’s quite tiring but just when you think you’re so exhausted, I look down at our new little bundle and he gives me a small smile which hits me like a boost of adrenalin giving me renewed energy. He’s a little surprise package, every minute you see and learn something new about our little person and his character. I am definitely up to the challenge and adventure of getting to know our new miracle.

-Tonette and her new bundle of joy, Jake

I learned that no matter how much you value sleep, you don’t mind losing it if it’s to feed your hungry baby.
