Message from the Padre

In our Gospel this weekend Jesus says, "Fear no one.

Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be

known." These words of Christ are not only meant for his community of fol-

lowers but also for all of us who worry and are afraid of a lot of things.

Yes, fear is nothing new to the human condition. It is a normal response to all

human beings. In fact, a healthy dose of fear can keep us on our toes...but on

the other hand, too much fear can also paralyze us. Over the past decade or so,

a number of new words have been added to our dictionary with regards to fear

including: 9-11, Al Qaeda, ISIS, suicide bomber, biochemical weapons and mass destruction. These are just some of

the words that are related to fear. Most of these words are events of terrorism and extremist attacks that we have had

and are still experiencing today. So the question for most of us is… How do we respond when the world we live in is

interrupted by fear of uncertainty and danger?

My dear brothers and sisters, in the midst of the challenges we are facing in this world today, Jesus

offers us words of consolation and strength. He said, “Even all the hairs on our head are counted. So do not be

afraid; we are worth more than many sparrows.” Yes God knows our fears. Whatever trouble or crisis is affecting

our lives, there is that joy and consolation to know that God knows our troubles better than we even know ourselves.

Even when we think that our troubles are too insignificant compared to those of others, we are assured that our heav-

enly Father knows exactly what is happening.

And so this weekend, Christ tells us not to be afraid… and to fear no one. He invites us to trust in the

God who cares and who knows the number of hairs on our heads and to remember always that when fear is near…

God is even nearer.

Disciples can expect to be confronted

at any time by those who seek to harm them. We may not nec-

essarily suffer the fate of modern-day martyrs in Asia and the

Middle East, but we know well what we may face even here at

home if we talk publicly about our faith. So what comfort to

hear Jesus tell us to not be afraid to proclaim our faith from the

housetops, for even the hairs on our head are counted by God,

who loves us and sustains us.

SCOUTS ARE AWARDED

CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS EMBLEM

Two young parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace, along

with two other local scouts, were recently awarded the Ad

Altare Dei medal from the Diocese of Camden Catholic Com-

mittee on Scouting and the Garden State Council of the BSA

at a ceremony held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in

Galloway, NJ.

Daniel Nichols and Jacen Januseski, along with Kevin Busta-

mante and Thomas Powell received the award on Saturday,

June 17th from Rev. Paul Harte, Camden Diocese Scouting

Youth Ministry Chaplain along with 25 other scouts from six

lower counties of Southern New Jersey. The Ad Altare Dei

program is focused on the sacraments and their relationship to

scouting’s principals and ideals, and the scouts completed

eight months of weekly counseling meetings, service projects,

retreats and interviews with clergy. The program culminated

with a day long service project in Camden City and a final

Board of Review.

The four scouts are the only award recipients from Burlington

County. Kevin and Daniel are members of Troop 5 in Haines-

port, while Jacen and Thomas are members of Troop 22 in

Lumberton. The scouts, along with their counselor Mr. Dan

Januseski wish to extend their sincerest thanks to Fr. Joe and

Our Lady Queen of Peace for supporting the AAD program

by providing the meeting space in the Parish Hall, and for

helping the boys with their requirements.
