Repsol E&P

• The upstream oil sector is a term used to refer to the searching for and the recovery and production of crude oil and natural gas. The upstream oil sector is also known as the exploration and production (E&P) sector. (Wikipedia)

• Includes the searching for potential oil & gas fields, drilling exploratory wells, and operating the wells to bring the crude oil & natural gas to the surface

• Portfolio as main core of E&P

• Repsol Portfolio dept. manages our assets helped by three applications:

• Lease data was mainly used and exploited by the departments of Portfolio and Planning

• Previously, lease management based in data types:

• Portfolio Madrid: management and update of the alphanumeric data, e.g. stage dates, commitments, acreage, partners, operator, etc,

• DSI Argentina: update of the geographical data, coordinates that draw the lease polygon according to its CRS.

4

Page 5: Upstream Leases

• The need of updating UL application came end of the 2009

• Integrated management of our assets

• Management from Madrid

• “Data Quality” guaranty: validation & verification (errors and abnormalities)

• Countries ISO 3166-1, Companies, Basins

• Data interoperability and consistency with other applications

• Development of a data reception procedure workflow

• Lease Geographic boundary representation – awareness

• Data definition – to avoid terminology ambiguity

• CRS Management

Page 7: Upstream Leases

• Development and implementation of a Coordinate Reference System (CRS) master so all upstream applications use the same CRS definitions and transformation parameter values

• It follows the OGP (Oil &Gas Producers) recommendations by using the standard libraries defined in the EPSG

by using the standard libraries defined in the EPSG dataset

• UL and EPSG dataset connexion via API

• Transformation from a local CRS to WGS 84 using ArcGIS server engine

EPSG Dataset --- no la mostrare lo explico

• The EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset, abbreviated to the EPSG Dataset , is a repository of parameters required to:

• define a coordinate reference system (CRS), which ensures that coordinates describe position unambiguously.

• define transformations and conversions that allow coordinates to be changed from one CRS to another CRS. Transformations and conversions are collectively called coordinate operations.

• The EPSG Dataset is maintained by the OGP Geomatic’s Committee's Geodetic Subcommittee. It conforms to ISO 19111 – Spatial referencing by coordinates. It is distributed in three ways:

distributed in three ways:

• the EPSG Registry , in full the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Registry, a web-based delivery platform in which the data is held in GML using the CRS entities described in ISO 19136.

• the EPSG Database , in full the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Database, a relational database structure where the entities which form the components of CRS’s and coordinate operations are in separate tables, distributed as an MS Access database;

• in a relational data model as SQL scripts which enable a user to create an Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL or other relational database and populate that database with the EPSG Dataset;

Upstream Leases Application - Technology

• Difficulty to make a worldwide layer for leases

• Geographic data loaded in local CRS depending on the country or zone

• No original coordinates stored

• Complex data loading

© Upstream Information Management- GiS Team

• Complex data loading

• GIS data managed by specialist group

• Old style ArcIMS basemap layer

• No support for contract documentation

• Allows single loading coordinates through the web application selecting standard CRS and Transformation from the CRS Master depending on the country

• Allows multiple leases loading of coordinates from xls files

• Validates the polygons topology

• Transform coordinates from the source CRS to the target CRS (WGS84) by using ArcGIS Server Engine

• Store original coordinates and all the related geodetic parameters in the database

• Create leases polygons into one unique layer

• Visualize the global locations of all leases in a modern Web Viewer
