out-manoeuvred pan-democratic lawmakers’ efforts to stall the vote, while
ice had to forcibly remove protesters who had the building.
e drama erupted at around 5pm, two hours into the meeting, when Chan
ddenly called for a vote on the government’s request for extra money to
mplete the railway that will link Hong Kong to Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

The funny thing is that HK needs more tourists but the PanDems find every way to kill off the means to increase the
raffic into and out of the city, e.g. the China Raillink and third Airport runway. The objections should have been
aised before the project started. Otherwise, they are creating the real White Elephant.
o
Bravo to the pro-government members, and the silent majority of HK citizens. One win in a long last. Most of us are
sick of filibustering. So very un-democratic acts for a group who wants democracy.

Good that it finally passed but sad for all the theatrics. The world needs more subways and more rail links to reduce
he number of cars / planes. No form of mass transport is as effective / environmental as rail. Now let's start looking
at more MTR plans for new territories and the rest of Hong Kong. Hong Kong should stop building new roads and
ust build rail.
magine 30% of the cars and 30% of the busses were removed from the roads. Getting around Hong Kong would be
amazing and the air would be much fresher.

This project doesn't seem that smart from what little I know but if it's 50% done, it kind of has to be completed unless
he cost finishing it outweighs the long term gains and the jobs it has created. But the antics and trickery both sides
of legco commonly resort to is childish.

You are very short sited. People also did not want MTR when it was first announced in Hong Kong. Now people
around the world say it is amongst the best transport anywhere. These second tier cities are where future of China
will take hold and create opportunities for people in Hing Kong to take advantage of.
Hong Kong cannot stay in a bubble just being proud of the past. We all must look forward and make HK even
greater than it is today. Hong Kong students worry about not having opportunities in the future but are the ones
hrough protests are reducing their opportunities rather than grabbing those staring them directly in the face.
Hong Kong has the ability to retain being a global financial centre, becoming Asias technical hub and be knowledge
eaders. We just have to put our hands up and grab the future.

You don't know what you are talking about. The high speed rail is a railroad to nowhere. It doesn't go to Guangzhou
city, but rather to Shibi, 18 stations outside of Guangzhou city center. The average traveler wouldn't save any time
by taking the high speed rail as they would spend over an hour riding the local Guangzhou MTR after arriving at
Shibi, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Yay! I love the fact that we've now spent all our surplus on a stupid rail that no Hong Kong locals will use but will
continue to ferry more people from up North into Hong Kong instead of actually helping the poor.
Not only that - we need to pay this because our MTR boss is so incompetent that he held the city hostage and yet
he keeps his job...

There is already a rail link as well as a subway to get there. The HSR is superfluous. If you are going to support the
passage of the funding request, you should at least choose a valid argument.

The violence we witnessed yesterday from the pan-dems once again demonstrates their hypocrisy. They were
outmaneuvered by the chairman, the vote was passed, and instead acting with professionalism they chose to resort
o aggression. I agree the project is wasteful, but at least accept defeat with good grace. What an awful example to
set to young people.

All 60 legislators realize the funding must be approved but playing their own script. A group of clown try to pretend
angry but their expression in front of TV is not up to standard. The poorest three are Chan chi chuen, Chan Wai Yip
and Leung Ka Kit. And the most funny one is Leung Kok Hung. The best performance is Wong Yuk Man. The ugly
one should be Mo Mang Ching. It is not hard to understand. Mr. Wong and Ms Mo have camera experience. But why
HK people have to play for such below par players.
