UPTV - Description
It is a closed-circuit TV network device that broadcasts computer generated images, slides to the residents of University Place.
Planed to replace the current system, VCTV in the near future.
Goals
1. Debug the current audio system
2. Rewire the current device
3. Documentation for future uses
4. Develop a database suitable to service UPTV and web-based applications.
5. Build a development system at the Smitty’s Lab
6. Implement timer to the current system & change the current dip-switch to more suitable one.

ILE Semester Plan
Eric Buysse, Melissa Dunn, Rachael Fischer, Kendall McEwan
Project Members Project Leader: Melissa Dunn -- Second
year graduate student in the Audiology Doctorate program
Project Members:Eric Buysse -- Sophomore in Electrical
EngineeringKendall McEwan and Rachael Fischer –
2nd year graduate students in the AudiologyDoctorate program
All members are new to UPRC
Project Partner Interaction
3 meetings with John Lindenlaub 1 trip to UPRC
Saw the layout of the 2 rooms we are dealing with (the dining room and the great room)
Were able to get feedback from residentsregarding the work that’s been done, and haveincorporated their interest in a report on the noiselevels in the dining room into our semester plan
Current Progress and Plan Dining Room
This will be the focus of Rachael’s senior design We have obtained the data from last semester’s team members,
and reviewed it quickly This semester, we will put signs that say “Sit Hear” on the tables
with better listening conditions, as concluded from the researchdone last semester (these signs were made last week)
We plan to make a document describing the findings of the datafrom last semester
Great Room This will be the focus of Kendall’s Senior Design We will research better ways to connect the sound systems of
thetwo rooms
Eric will be indispensable in this part of the project, and we willprobably call on the help of our other teammates with engineeringexpertise on other projects
We will update the research done last semester regarding ALDs and analyze which ALD will be most appropriate for UPRC
Last Semester’s Progress Dining Room sub-project
A survey of residents was performed Noise levels for different areas of the dining room
were obtained during mealtime, but results are unreliable, so new measurements will need to be taken
Locations of sound level meters is vague Graphs describing results were unclear
Great Room sub-project A temporary connection between the 2 rooms was
made using a microphone from one room hung in front of the speakers from the other
Started preliminary research on Assistive Listening Devices
Current Progress and Plan
2 new sub-projects for this semester:These will be the focus of Melissa’s Senior
DesignWorking with UPTV to add audio to the
power point, and put tips for listeningstrategies into the power point
Compiling a list of tips on how to build aroom with good acoustics for the use ofthe Franciscan Sisters of Chicago

Design Process and Completion The project charter was written last semester We are currently in the Specification Development
phase for parts of our project, including theconnection of the two sound systems, but we arequickly moving towards the Conceptual DesignPhase, particularly regarding the ALDs, this meanswe will start and possibly complete the ProjectSpecification Document this semester
The project was started in Spring of 2005, with acompletion date of Spring of 2007. However, theaddition of two sub-projects will extend this date.
Computer Coaching Project
Emeka Okorafor
Project DescriptionThe objective of this project is to provide the
residents of University Place instruction to improve their computer skills. We plan to do this byassembling a team of volunteers that will coach the residents in various computer skills.
Support from volunteer networks for continuity.
