Your Registration Form and registration fee must be received and in our hands by March 26, 2018 Any registrations after this date will be assigned in the order that they are received.

Complete the enclosed Registration Form typing or printing clearly. Indicate the class code (day and class number) plus the teacher’s last name for each class choice, Example: FR-01—Atkinson If you want two

classes on Friday, list them under each other (See registration form).

Teachers and Vendors: Please complete the enclosed Teacher/Vendor registration form.

List classes in order of preference. Include up to four choices for each day you plan to attend. Do not list any class you are not willing to take. Making only one choice will not guarantee you a space in that class.

When selecting your baskets, please consider the skill level, size of basket, time allowed, and skills to be learned. Use the guidelines on page 2 for class skill levels. Please check the project sizes carefully be-fore making your choices. Projects can be either much larger or much smaller than they appear in the photographs.

Skill Levels

Beginner Weaver has little or no experience in basic weaving.

Beginner/Intermediate Weaver is still learning with some basket experience in the material and technique of the basket offered.

Intermediate Weaver is skilled in basic techniques and materials of basket offered.

Intermediate/Advanced Weaver is very comfortable with all techniques and materials in the bas-ket offered.

Advanced Weaver is experienced and wants to explore, experiment and develop skills using alternate fibers and varying creative methods.

All Levels All weavers should be able to complete the basket offered.

4 Pt. Rag Twill in Shaker Tape Steve Atkinson

12”H x 14”W x 14”L $49 All Levels 4 hrs The seat of this stool is woven in a 4 rag twill using two colors. You will be learning two patterns, the 4 pt rag twill which is chal-lenging and the checkerboard on the underside. Choices of colors of Shaker tape or nylon webbing will be available. The pine stool is stained and sealed, ready for weaving. Not to be used as a step stool!

Oval Tote Billy Owens

8”H x 14” w/handle x 12”L x 6”W $75 All Levels 4 hrs Made of hand split White Oak from trees I cut and prepare by hand. Has a rectangle Herringbone bottom, oval top and solid Oak handle, making it sturdy enough for any task. Billy will share all things concerning White Oak , from how timber is selected, how he hand splits the Oak and the Owens method of rimming. Everyone should leave with a finished basket.

Kayla’s Nantucket Charlotte Philip

6.5”H x 4”dia $60 Beginner 4 hrs In this basket, designed by Jan Beyma, students will learn the basics of setting up and weav-ing a small Nantucket basket. Stakes and weavers are cane. Basket is woven over a metal mold for class use. The base, cheater rim and lid are cherry and will be pre-finished. A tool kit will be provided for class use.

3.25”H x 9”L x 6”W $98 All Levels 4hrs New for this year! Made on a mold using our trademark TigerAsh splint. It has a slotted walnut rim. The lid is walnut with a birdseye maple inlay. A birch base plate fills the bottom of the basket. A great dresser top basket.

Toddler Shaker Tape Chair Steve Atkinson

seat 11” x 12.5 W x 20” back hgt. $53 All Levels 4hrs A new chair for the toddler, larger than the original. A variety of color choices in Shaker tape or nylon webbing available. Learn two weaves, one on top, one un-der the seat. The pine frame will be stained and varnished. Spe-cial Tools: long shank weaving tool OR long knitting needle.

Elegantly Off Center Debbie Wilson 4” H x 20” dia.

$38 Beginner/Int. 4hrs This coiled basket is done on a gourd dyed in earth tones and woven. with Danish cord. The gourd is deliberately off center with dips and indentions giving the coiling an undulating affect. Elegance in simplicity of design. Coiling is a wonderful way to finish off any basket, ceramic or nature piece.

Kennedy Debbie Hurd

5.5”H x 11”L x 7”W $48 Intermediate 6 hrs This basket is woven on a painted/sealed black oval base. All weaving materials are shades of black and grays for a wonder-ful contrast. Techniques used are: 4-rod, 2/1 continuous twill, cross stitch and double lashed rim. A choice of embellishment in class.

Shaker Cheese Basket Sandy Bulgrin 8” or 10” dia.

$35 All Levels 6 hrs This unique basket is woven with flat reed in a hexagon weave pattern. Traditionally a shallow basket that was used by Shakers as a strainer to make cheese. Choice of two different sizes, an 8” or 10” base.

FR-09 Friday 9-4pm

Spiral Lidded Storage Pati English 6.5”H x 7” dia.

$75 Intermediate 6hrs A 5” round wood base is one of three wood components in the 7” diameter basket. Techniques include: Start/Stop flat oval weavers, dyed 4-rod wale, 3-rod bands of wine and seagrass creates added texture. A six inch wood hoop serves as a inner rim for an accurate fit for the lid. Several color choices available. .

FR10 Friday 9-4pm

Richmond Pail Selena Straughn 9”H x 8-10” dia.

$40 Intermediate 6hrs I was inspired to design this 8qt. Steel pail when I saw a fellow weaver at a conference in Richmond, IN with her woven bucket. This basket has a pre-attached slotted base. Students will insert the spokes. Techniques: chase weave, 3-rod wale, 4-rod wale, twin-ing with reed and metal wire, and cre-ate hills and valleys with dyed reed. Every weaver needs a beautiful water pail!

It’s Your Sweetgrass Basket

Barbara McCormick Size will vary

$65 All Levels 6hrs Whether beginner or experienced, this art form stemming from West Africa will allow you to put your imagination to use. These baskets are coiled with Sweet-grass and Southern long-leaf pine nee-dles then lashed with strips of palmetto. Techniques taught will enable students to design a variety of shapes and sizes of baskets. No Water Required. Scissors only. Additional class tools provided.

Melon Basket Kim Maughans

4”H x 8” w/handle x 8”dia $40 All Levels 8 hrs A great introduction to ‘rib’ basketry. Students will learn techniques on measuring hoops for centering, making God’s Eye, whittling and de-termining length and place-ment of ribs as well as adding new weavers, and a great way to hide ends.

Tyler’s Twill Peggy Adelman

7”H x 14” w/hdl. x 16”L x 8.5”W $60 Intermediate 8 hrs This basket includes dyed and natural stakes and smoked weav-ers. The base is a 2/2 twill meas-uring 9” x 5”. From the twilled base you will form a cathead bottom, sides are flared and woven in a twill. Swing handles completes the basket. Creating the cathead and shaping will be stressed. Kit colors may vary.

Designer Chevron Laura Lee Zanger

6”H x 9” dia. 12” handle span $75 Intermediate 8 hrs This square basket uses the Cherokee 1-3-5 twill technique to create the chevron that is so popular in home design. It has a herringbone base and a unique handle/rim combination. The color choices are gray, pink, teal, violet and key lime.

Keep It Simple Pam Milat

10”H w/handle x 17.5L x 9”W $56 All Levels 8 hrs Start with an open weave ‘oval’ base that includes techniques: over/under weave, twining, re-verse twining, 4-rod wale and an elegantly wrapped handle. Some color choices at class time. Students may not finish rimming and lashing but will have materials and instruction to complete the basket.

Heartland Picnic Tote Sandy Atkinson

15.5”H x 10” base-12.5” at top $85 Intermediate 8 hrs Woven over a plastic mold, a perfect picnic tote to keep every-thing together. Inside has a round shelf where you can place ice packs or warming inserts. Remove the shelf to carry what ever you need. Has a twined base, stop/start sides, and work-ing on a mold are some tech-niques used. Woven in dark teal and black reeds, detachable ny-lon handles, wood and reed lid, and black cane for lashing.

Sandy Atkinson 22”H x 12.5 dia.

$64 Intermediate 8 hrs Accent table is woven in the antique drum fashion. Woven at just the right height of 22”. Woven in black and natural reeds on a wood grooved top, painted black and then poly fin-ished. Techniques include: twill, reverse twill and triple twine.

Fancy Chicken Feet Bonnie Geiger

5.3”H x 16L x 9.5”W $55 Beg./Intermediate 8 hrs Learn to fill in a base using the chicken feet technique with dou-ble side-by-side fillers. Practice shape control using flat and flat oval reed. Rim is super easy with only four spokes to tuck. Add leather handles on each end. Play with overlays to create a look of your own.

9.5”H x 14”L x 11”W $70 Advanced 8 hrs This large basket has many tech-niques, they include: doubled Japanese weave, 4-rod wale, 6-rod wale, adding leather handles to the side, and side embellish-ments. Secondary color choice at class time. Students need to bring a small bent tip packer.

Our Daily Bread Selena Straughn

4.5” H x 15”L x 6”W $60 Intermediate 8 hrs Begin with a beautiful laser en-graved “Our Daily Bread” slotted base. Several techniques are in this basket: continuous twill weave, 3-rod wale, arrow weave and a wrap with Hamburg cane. Rim lashed with Hamburg cane will finish the basket. Shaping will be emphasized. This basket has slots on the back so it can be dis-played on your wall when not in use.

Classic Cape Cod Purse Kathy Taylor

4.75”H x 7.75”L x 5.25”W $120 Intermediate 8 hrs This is our Classic Cape Cod Purse. The basket is made on a mold with hand pounded black ash. The base, slotted rim and a solid lid are American Cherry. It has leather hinges, shoulder strap and a magnetic latch with bone accents. A nice bag to carry either as a day bag or evening purse.

Victorian Market Karen Maugans

8”H x 14” w/hdl. X 17.5”L x 9”W $72 All Levels 8 hrs Starting with a D handle, stu-dents will weave a filled base and will use the following tech-niques: stop/start weaving, twin-ing, triple twining, graduated sides, and a fancy but simple braided border. Finish with a wrapped handle. Upon complet-ing this basket you will enjoy the contrast of the Victorian space-dyed reed to the natural reed.

Tray of X’s Dona Nazarenko 2”H x 23”L x 8”W

$64 Advanced 8 hrs This is a long, graceful rectangu-lar tray basket accented with dyed round reed making x’s along the way. The side weaving includes twining and leather handles and a plain weave to give a graceful flair. The rim is lashed with waxed linen. Tips on pattern repeats, placement and shaping make this stunning when displayed. Stu-dents need to bring a tapestry needle and awl.

T’s Tote Billy Owens

13”H x 15”L x 4”W $110 All Levels 8 hrs Made of hand split White Oak from trees I cut and prepare by hand. T’s Tote is a newer style basket I have started making. It has a Herring-bone bottom, oval top and 2 leather handles. Billy will share everything about White Oak such as how he selects his trees, how he splits the Oak and the Owens method of rim-ming. Everyone should leave with a finished basket that will last a life-time.

Ombre Osprey Laura Lee Zanger 8”H x 14”L x 9.5”W

$100 Int./Advanced 8-10 hrs This Cherokee design called Bird Eyes represents an Osprey (fish hawk). The basket design repre-sents the Osprey’s reflection in the blue water. You can see his eyes and beak in the design made by weaving a 1-3-5 twill in the first half of the design and then a 1-3-3-3-5 twill for the rest of the design. A basic rim and an Indian swing handle complete the basket.

SA-10 Saturday 8-5 pm Sweetgrass Chip and Dip Tray

$85 All Levels 8 hrs Whether beginner or experienced, this class will allow you to put your imagination to use. Sweetgrass bas-kets are coiled with sweetgrass, Southern long-leaf pine needles and lashed with strips of palmetto. Tech-niques taught will enable students to design a variety of shapes and sizes of Sweetgrass baskets. This is an art form stemming from West Africa over 300 yrs ago. Scissors Only. Addi-tional tools provided in class.

14”H x 14”L x 11”W $60 Intermediate 8 hrs Bijou is start/stop weaving with several important features, the embellishment (added while weav-ing), false rim used at the handle openings, and lashing/wrapping the handle. Students will complete these features in class. Many color choices available and combina-tions will be selected by the stu-dents.

SA-12 Saturday 8-5 pm Summer Nantucket Purse

Charlotte Philip 7”H x 15”with/Hdl. X 10”L x 4.5”W $90 Intermediate 8-10 hrs This purse, designed by Jan Beyma, will be pre-started on a plastic class mold. Stakes are cane, weavers will be bleached cane. The oak base will be pre-finished. The basket is woven in a over/under pattern with a diamond in the center. A reed rim will be nailed and lashed. Leather han-dles will be added with bone knobs. Please notify instructor if you weave left handed. A class tool kit will be available.

Notes to Students: Please bring with you the usual basket weaving tools such as scissors, pack-

ing tools, spoke weight, clothespins, measuring tape, towel, spray bottle,

bucket or pan for water, etc. Some classes may require more unusual tools so

they are specified in the basket description.

“Class Mold” indicates that a mold is for in-class use only.

Bring address labels to apply to raffle tickets thus avoiding writing your infor-

mation on each ticket.

4.5”H x 4.5” dia. $38 Beg./Intermediate 4 hrs Woven over a class mold that the students will keep. Techniques in-clude: 4-rod wale, 2/2 twill. Choice of charms at class time. Makes a great gift for anyone. Designed to hold a 4” electronic candle. Can-dles included in class fee.

Bicycle Basket Billy Owens

8”H x 12”L x 6”W $75 All Levels 4 hrs Made of hand split White Oak from trees Billy cuts and prepares by hand. The bicycle basket is a new and popular style. It has a rectan-gle Herringbone bottom, a ‘D’ shaped top and two leather straps for attaching to your bike. Billy will share his knowledge about White Oak, such as selection of trees, hand splitting the Oak and the Owens method of rimming. Every-one should leave with a finished basket.

Sunflowers Selena Straughn

7”H x 15”H w/handle x 10.5”dia. $40 All Levels 4 hrs Primary and secondary spokes will be added by twining on a painted ‘D’ handle. Basic weave will bring it up to a 4-rod wale (2/2). Keeping spokes evenly spaced will be stressed so that a hand painted (by a fellow weaver) 1 3/4” strip can be added. The sunflowers will be positioned in 4 areas around the basket. Overlays will be added then a traditional rim. A wrapped handle will finish the bright sunflower basket.

3”H x 5”w/handle x 5”L x 4”W $66 Intermediate 6 hrs Pick 3 basket designs to complete, or make 2 and take one to finish later. Learn a variety of flat oval and round reed techniques. Select from: back row; 2”x 4” Racetrack Spiral, or a re-verse Spiral Round Reed basket, or 3” to 4” Mini Round Spiral Basket. Front row: 4” Mini Elbow/Heart Wall Basket, Mini Round Twill basket, or Open Weave Garlic baskets. Select 3 colors; wine, aqua, green, yellow, orange, or purple. All six designs are included. In your pattern.

Wicker Turtle Laura Lee Zanger 8”H x 10”L x 8”dia.

$55 All Levels 6 hrs This whimsical turtle has a shell-shaped basket that can actually be used. The two-step braids at the bottom and top create the shell form. A head is woven separately. Beads are added onto the weaving for eyes. Wooden ball feet raise the shell so the head tilts downward. A seat weaving wedge is inserted for a tail (out of view in the pic-ture).

8”H x10” dia. $62 All Levels 6 hrs Start with a 5” grooved base, weave with all smoked reed and natural reed accents. Techniques include: stop/start weave, twining, a different braided border and a major emphasis on shaping and finishing. Note: please don’t let anyone spit in it!

with paper rush, an easy technique that

can be applied to larger chairs. Chair

should bring a heavy duty packing tool

and large clamps.

Shaker Tape Chair

Nice size rocker for the growing little

one. Built very sturdy and rocks smooth

with security rockers that prevents rock-

ing too hard. Choose to weave a heart,

the twill pattern or a checkerboard de-

sign. You will learn 2 weaves, one on

the top and one on the underside.

Marketplace

We would like to invite you to our Marketplace where teachers and con-vention participants sell basket-related items such as patterns, kits, bas-kets, shirts, jewelry, supplies and tools. Tables for teachers to display their merchandise are free. Non-teacher tables are $5.00 each. If you would like a table, contact Julia Honchar at [email protected]

Remember “weaving etiquette” and make all non-vendor sales or pur-chases during Marketplace, allowing class hours for weaving and teach-

ing. Most of our instructors will be at Marketplace. To pre-order kits for

Carousel Candace Katz

6.5”H 8”Dia. $48 Intermediate 6 hrs Carousel is all about color. Techniques include 1-2 twill, stop/start weaving, a stacked rim, and dyed maple curls. Weavers will be able to choose the colors for their basket and LOTS will be available.

Pickle Barrel Peggy McCarson

11”H x 10” Dia. $45 Beg/Intermediate 6 hrs Pickle Barrel features a check-erboard pattern on the side along with 3-rod wale accents. Chase weaving holds the pre-inserted spokes into the base. Stop/start weaving is also used. Leather handles are hand cut and dyed. Emphasis will be on making the sides go straight up and perpendicular to the base.

Diagonally Plaited Basket Sandy Bulgrin

6.5”H x 6.5”L x 6.5”W $48 All Levels 6 hrs Like a potato chip you won’t be able to stop at just one. No chart reading here. Woven in deep gem tones of navy, gold, cranberry and natural or black, grey, teal, and natural colors. Students will set up the base spokes that then become the weavers. Once you learn the technique you’ll be surprised how fun it is to weave. Bring a packing tool, spray bottle and scissors.

3.25”H x 8”L x 5.5”W $75 Intermediate 6 hrs Students have their choice of ONE of four baskets. Each basket depicts a season of the year. The basket is made totally with hand pounded black ash with dyed accent pieces. Pictured from left to right: winter, spring, summer, and fall.
