Hannibal, MOHannibal is “America’s Hometown,” where history and adventure meet. The inspirations of his stories come to life here where Mark Twain grew up. The characters of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn can be relived as guests can run their hand along Aunt Polly’s fence, explore Injun Joe’s Cave and more. Visit Mark Twain’s childhood home, Becky Thatcher’s house and many other historical sites.

Enjoy a trolley tour of Hannibal to relive the adventures of Mark Twain. An experienced guide will share the history of Hannibal and take you to places of historical significance, including the Rockcliffe Mansion, an amazing 13,500 square foot American castle built overlooking the mighty Mississippi River. Highlights of this tour include many of the exciting places that inspired Mark Twain’s writing.

Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum

Discover the Hannibal of Samuel Clemens’ youth at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum. Explore the inspirational setting for the stories he created by visiting the Huckleberry Finn house and renovated Becky Thatcher home. Visit the museum’s gallery featuring interactive exhibits, the Norman Rockwell Gallery and authentic Clemens family artifacts. A live performance at the 2-story building is also featured (available only at certain times). Browse the Boyhood Home Gift Shop, located at original museum’s 1937 stone building, for souvenirs. Concluding the excursion, a perfect photo opportunity awaits at the Tom & Huck Statue, which is located at the foot of Cardiff Hill.

John Hauberg Indian Museum

Dubuque, IADubuque, the “Masterpiece on the Mississippi,” is a unique travel destination from its history as the first town established in Iowa to its reinvention as one of the most modern cities in the Midwest. Enjoy the renovation of the Port of Dubuque that features interactive museums and aquariums, a riverwalk, large outdoor plaza and amphitheater. Take a ride on the Fenolon Place Elevator, which is the world’s shortest and steepest scenic railway.

Shore Tour Options National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium

Explore one of the many interactive exhibits while learning about the Mississippi River’s history. Take part in a guided tour to discover the lives of the pioneers, explorers and artists who lived along the Mississippi River. Pilot a barge, see the power of a flood and follow a 92-foot map of the river beneath your feet through the museum’s many simulators. On your tour, you will also delight in the exhibits of the wildlife of the Mississippi. The William Woodward Discovery Center is home to these exhibits, which feature six large aquariums filled with river creatures including, giant catfish, sturgeon, duck, frogs and turtles.

Hixon House

Take a step back in time at the Hixon House, a beautiful Victorian home built in 1859 by lumber baron, Gideon Hixon. Gideon’s wife, Ellen, decorated the Hixon House in an aesthetic fashion, much of which has been preserved since its last

remodeling in 1900. The Hixon House also features a large portion of its original furnishings and a “Turkish Nook,” designed to create an oriental atmosphere.

Eco-Tour

Specially designed for nature lovers and bird watchers, this tour offers an afternoon adventure down the scenic backwaters of the Mississippi River. Tour a third-generation family business that began over 140 years ago and is still operating today. The Red Wing Pottery workshop produces pottery from dinnerware to gifts, large and small. Observe first-hand the intricate process of making pottery using a hand-turning technique that was used by skilled production potters before factories industrialized in the 20th century.

Bald Eagle Viewing

Getting to St. Louis, MO and the Queen of the MississippiYour ship will be docked at the St. Louis Parking Authority.

Flying Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is the best airport to fly into. The airport is serviced by many airlines and is approximately 20 minutes from the ship when traveling by taxi.

Parking You may park at St. Louis Dock, near the landing.

Arriving Early? If you arrive the day before your cruise, there are several hotels within a few minutes of the ship. Please ask for the American Cruise Lines rate. Each hotel can arrange for a taxi service to the dock.

Boarding ProcessBoarding the ship takes place between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The ship leaves promptly at 1:30 p.m. (earlier if all passengers are onboard). From the moment you arrive, the American Cruise Lines deckhands will handle everything for you. From helping you with your luggage to assisting you onboard—we will handle everything with care. There are no restrictions on luggage, but it is recommended to bring as few bags as necessary. Suitcases less than 10 inches high may be stowed under your bed.

Cruise ConclusionOn the last day of your cruise, the ship will dock at the Lambert’s Landing, 180 Shepard Road, St. Paul, MN 55102. If flying home, we recommend you fly from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Taxis are typically available at the ship and American Cruise Lines offers transportation to the airports.
