ion PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery Updates in General Surgery Symposium will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018, in the GMS 1097 Classroom in the Gehl-Mulva Science Center (MCW-Green Bay).

DIRECTIONS AND PARKING MCW-Green Bay is located in the Gehl-Mulva Science Center (161 Reid Street in DePere; or #7 on the St. Norbert College map linked below). Please feel free to park in a MCW visitor space in Lot P2. Map available online at www.snc.edu/about/docs/campusmap.pdf.

The entrance to MCW is in the one-story section of the building on the southeast corner with “MCW-Green Bay” above the office entrance.

PURPOSE The aim of the symposium is to familiarize the audience with recent trends and updates in issues and procedures related to the General Surgical patient. The course will include lectures and complex case presentations/panel discussions.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVESAt the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:• Discuss how an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol

can help improve patient outcomes • Understand the different options for managing GERD

including the pros and the cons of each approach• Describe techniques for the surgical management of

inguinal hernias including robotic repairs• Understand the options and challenges in the surgical

management of obesity in patients with organ failure• Identify complex hernias that are not amenable to standard

repair techniques• Describe new and evolving endoscopic interventions as

primary interventions and to manage complications• Understand how to optimize patients prior to surgery to

attain the best outcomes

EDUCATIONAL METHODThe educational objectives will be met through lectures by nationally recognized leaders in multidisciplinary areas and through interactive case presentations and panel discussions.
