2012 Project: Relating Electrified Cloud Properties to Wilson Currents: An Oceanic Case Study

Mentors: Wiebke Deierling, Tina Kalb

FESD student Sarah Al-Momar

“Prior to SOARS, I was undecided if I wanted to attend graduate school or not. However, after working with Wiebke and Tina and all of my other mentors, I am

confident in my abilities and feel I can succeed at any challenge grad school throws at me.”

New recruit for FESD Selection meeting March 4th

Mentors: Andreas Baumgaertner, Tina Kalb, Wiebke Deierling Topic: Global electric circuit: Analyze high-resolution microphysical and

dynamical climate model output of electrified cloud types and compare it to observed cloud properties with the goal of finding possible climate model parameterization(s) for total cloud current generation from electrified clouds.

Requirements: physics, meteorology, computer science. Linux/Unix operating system, NCL or Matlab, Ferret. The student will also learn about the CESM/CAM model.
