•Mt. Kelud was declared in “ALERT” status by Indonesia government.• Together with other 18 active volcanoes which among others Mt. Raung, Mt. Ibu, Mt. Lewotobi Mt. Perempuan, Mt. Ijen, Mt. Gamkonora, Mt. Soputan, Mt. Sangeangapi, Mt. Papandayan, Mt. Dieng, etc.

•A week later, Mt. Kelud status increased from “ALERT” to “STAND BY level 2”• Indonesia Volcanology, Mitigation, and Geology Center (PVMBG) recommended community to avoid approaching  Mt. Kelud’s summit and its crater.

13 Feb 2014 

• Volcanic earthquake occurred for several times from early in the morning until noon.• Within 12 hours, it was noted that 453 volcanic earthquake occurred with low frequency • The crater temperature  was increased from 57.4 centigrade to 70 centigrade. It was expected that volcanic eruption will occur in due course. Mt.Kelud status remain unchanged.

• After the uprising of critical conditions, at 21.15 WIB, Mt. Kelud status was declared to be increased from “STAND BY level 2” to “STAND BY level 4”

• At 22.50 WIB Mt. Kelud was erupted, and during the second eruption at 23.30 WIB, the material consist of poisonous gas and volcanic ashes was vertically hurled up to 17 km heights. The eruption lasted for 3 hours.

• The volcanic ashes was spread out to several nearby areas

Presidential DirectionsFriday (14/2), at 06.05 WIB

1. Head of BNPB to coordinate with all relevant Ministries and Institutions to assist the local government of East Java in handling the impact of eruption.

2. To provide all neceesary needs of refugees

3. The Governor of East Java should handle the situation directly to the refugee location

4. PVMBG to analyze the indication of Mt.Kelud’s following eruption.

THE SPREAD OF VOLCANIC ASHES OF MOUNT KELUD ERUPTION

The distribution of volcanic ash carried by the wind was spread to the West and Southwest area of Mt. Kelud slopes. Affected areas include: Pacitan, Ponorogo, Winton, Bantul, Yogyakarta, Sleman, Kulon Progo, Purworedjo, Kebumen, Solo, Boyolali, Salatiga, Waterford, Bandung, 

Jakarta, Lampung.

IMMIDIATE MEASURES :Deployment of all national resources to support the local government of East Java, including Blitar, Malang, and Kediri for recovery and rehabilitation.

• Human Resources = BNPB, Indonesia National Army, Police Forces, Ministry of Public Works, Search and Rescue Team (BASARNAS), Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Transportation.

• Health assistance and medical support• Logistics and heavy equipment support• Financial Aids• Administrative and managerial assistance• Volcanic Material cleansing in all affected areas
