The District is really buzzing! Thank you to everyone who came along to our District Convention at Belvoir Castle, the feedback has been very positive indeed. I thought that Vale of Belvoir Lions and the District Convention team did a fantastic job... the professionalism, organisation, hard work and effort all paid off. And above all is the fact that our District Convention was FUN. Being published at the same time as this edition of is a special . I urge you to have a look at this and either relive the memory of an amazing event or (for those who were unable to attend) get a feel for the thrill of everything that happened. Our challenge now is to take on board the theme of the Convention - but I know that everyone is up for starting new initiatives and sharing ideas... It currently stands at 1087 and our aim is to reach 1100 by June 30th. Come on let’s get those prospective new members signed up and recorded on MY LCI straightaway. Let’s also keep telling people what a brilliant organisation Lions is and encourage them to join. Two more big things to mention. I'm hoping that clubs from all over the District will take part in the inaugural on April 9th. There is so much that can be done, so (again) let’s do it! District 105E is now formally which is the closest MD103 District to England and includes Calais, Lille, the Somme and Amiens. We are looking to set up several twinning initiatives, if you'd like to play a part please let me know. Finally more good news, I was aiming to visit every Club in the District this year either for your Charter, to do a club Visit, to support a special event or just to help out. I now have just two more clubs to visit. So, Mrs DG and I are going to start doing more second, third or even fourth visits to Clubs. If you'd like us to come along to your club again please let me know, we are determined to support you all right through to midnight on June 30th! Thanks to you all for everything you continue to do to uphold the standing of this superb part of MD105. Once again to everyone,District 105E Convention – Belvoir Castle. Wow! What can I say? I hopeall those who attended enjoyed themselves as much as I did.I was able to set up the display for The MS Society on the Friday and hosted the Fundraising Coordinator Caroline Kew briefly on Saturday morning. Shewas extremely impressed with all the work Lions do and - had she not been so busy working for theSociety - would be very interested in joining our organisation. My thanks to all those who found timeto chat with Caroline. She did want to personally thank all those Clubs who have already made verygenerous donations and enjoyed her short time with us.I put two collecting boxes on the table at the castle and was delighted to find that some of my fellowLions had left donations... - you know that every penny will count! The painting of the castle with stags painted byLion Fred Collins was auctioned at Convention andraised an amazing £250. I would like to publiclythank Fred for his generous gift. The picture nowhangs on a wall in Holland having successfullynegotiated Dutch Customs. Owner Peter was sopleased with his purchase as it reminded him of hisfantastic week-end at the castle. Finally I’d like to thank Vale of Belvoir Lions. Youdid an amazing job. You’d thought of everythingand planned to the smallest detail. And thanks alsoto DG husband. Your thoughts, plans and ideas allcame to fruition and made for a very enjoyable andsuccessful convention. Some snippets of NEWS from AROUND OUR DISTRICT

are always keen towork with local youth organisations and so theywere delighted to be able to reward two localgroups for their invaluable help during theClub’s pre Christmas activities.

got concerned by acall from Avril Lennox at the Borough Councilconcerning a Sport Relief Run/Walk... theybegan to think that she wanted them to 'run'!Luckily she just needed some help with theevent. So, in true Lions fashion, members ofthe club turned out to do Marshaling, Car Parkduties, manning water stations and mostimportantly keeping up the moral of therunners and walkers. Avril awarded the Clubmembers event medals for their efforts.Right- Flying the flag for Oadby & Wigston Lions club were,Kevin Loydall, David Swanson, Helen Loydall, RichardDarlaston Chris Huscroft and John Lowe

The Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal season seems tohave caught up with us again... that's certainly thecase for who wererecently out in their locality doing some tin rattling.

- a delightful scene where a member of thepublic makes his donation to a group of Lionsspanning 3 Generations... Lion Alan Waldron, joinedby his Granddaughter and his Son, Dvidas helpedthe Club achieve an impressive collection of £619.No doubt this will be just one of many situationsduring the next few weeks where Lions will be foundsupporting the worthy Marie Curie appeal.

THE ZONE CHAIRS’ COLUMN

The togetherness has continued into theLionistic year as all the clubs continue towork well together. The Edwinstowe andRetford games nights are always verycompetitive and the Edwinstowe teams atSouthwell Quiz have a great night,

March is an important fundraising monthin the zone with clubs really getting involved in collecting forMarie Curie (our partner charity). Edwinstowe and The Dukerieshave led the way with this by collecting at Tesco in Ollerton andThe Co-op in Edwinstowe.

Sadly the Zone hasn’t yet managed to get a Zone serviceproject off the ground this year. There have been a fewchallenges with Lion Graham Venables and myself coveringthe Zone Chairman role on top of our other District duties. We have, however, recently heard abouta possible project for which we may be able to secure funding. It will need some to makeit happen but it could well be a good project in which Lions and Leos could work effectively together. Finally, I would like to reach out to all the Past Presidents in the Zone to consider taking on the role ofZone Chairperson for the coming year. Having been a Club President is all you need to have done tobe eligible. I have found the role extremely rewarding and clearly others who accept the challengethink this way too... In fact a number of the current Zone Chairs are volunteering to continue in the rolefor another year (or more in some cases). Thanks for reading my brief resume ... Let’s all look forward to moving our organisation forward andmaking it

It’s a privilege for me to be able to write this short resume of what’s beenhappening in Zone G but first of all I feel that, as this is our Convention Edition,it really important for me to say a huge thank you to all the clubs in my Zonefor their involvement in our District Convention. All five clubs had delegates at the businesssession representing the views of their clubs onthe various resolutions. That was a great showby everyone from North Notts, Retford, Worksop, Edwinstowe and The Dukeries and Southwell... Thanks to you all.As I started to write this article I began to reflecton my previous year as Zone G Chairman andthe wonderful togetherness that we managed togenerated between clubs. This was highlightedby the wonderful Retford Gymnasium paintingproject and managing to equip all the BluebellWood Community Nurses with the necessaryequipment bags. Now, when on call, they do nothave to go via the hospice to collect necessarykit when attending a patient. Pictures:

The coming of spring invariably brings with it a feeling of expectation... the prospect of longer dayswith warmer weather and plans to enjoy the summer ahead. 2016 is going to be no exception aswithin our organisation we begin our plans for the great Centenary Celebrations ahead. That’s whywe are thinking of what it would be like in the spring of 2017 to look out on seas of daffodils.Daffodils planted in selected areas by Lions for all to enjoy.Across the UK Lions are being encouraged to plant as many bulbs as they can to brighten up flowerbeds, grassland and roadside verges. Clubs can obtain bulbs for a very low cost (around £10 for25kg) and orders for bulbs should be sent to Lion Elaine Kitchen before the end of May.This year is no exception and has the added attraction of our preparations for our Centennial year. What better way to start the celebrations than with cascades of daffodils to brighten up areas wherethe public can enjoy their beauty. Lions Clubs are able to purchase the bulbs at the reduced price ofapproximately £10 per 25kg. Please order bulbs via PDG Elaine Kitchen (email: [email protected])before the end of May... Perhaps for the more adventurous, a flower bed using blue and yellow flowersto create the Lions logo may be possible? The time’s right for applications to the Woodland Trust (www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/freetrees) for .Sleaford Lions recently approached their District council and were offered a small rural wood whichneeded to be restocked.

.You may be interested to learn that there’s going to be a nationwide event in commemoration of theQueens birthday - Participants will be asked to litter pick so it may be an ideato think about organising your Club’s own litter pick and attaching our Centennial banner to it .Young People are our future so in any of these activities it could be an advatage to enlist the help ofyouth groups in your area... It’s a good way to establish contacts with such groups.

In association with the Hearing Dogs Society Lions Clubs have places available in the
