Happy New Year and welcome back Spruceland Families!
I hope that the time away from school has provided opportunity for making
connections and recharging of energy systems.
For all the families who were able to join us for Toy Bingo, Christmas Concerts
and our Santa Breakfast….thank you. What makes Spruceland Traditional
Elementary School so special is our community. We have a staff that go so far
beyond the bookends of the day to make such events happen…and of
course our families who come out to support the school and celebrate
together.
Formal communications of student learning (report cards) will be sent home
on January 31st. Remember that learning is an ongoing journey and this report
will be a snapshot of where your child is on that date. We have seen
incredible growth in our students since September and know that they will
continue to grow throughout the year.
We are in the midst of winter so please ensure that your children are dressed
appropriately for the weather. Students will be outside in the morning, at
break and at lunch unless the temperature drops below -20 degrees Celsius.
Also, please be careful when walking around the school as there may be icy
or slippery sections of our grounds.
Let’s make 2020 an amazing year for our students and school!

To ensure student safety, all visitors coming to the school between 8:45am-2:25pm
MUST: 1.) Sign in at the office and sign out when you leave. 2.) Wear a school lanyard as a guest or volunteer. This system will improve our
lists of people in the school during a lockdown or evacuation. (School special events are an exception.)
3.) It is very important that our hallways remain quiet during class time and use of inappropriate language is strictly prohibited.
4.) All parents wanting to be volunteers need to apply for a Police Record Check every 3 years. Applications can be picked up at our office, you must then fill out and drop off to the RCMP. We are happy to support all applications.
5.) All lunches for students are to be brought to the office and we will call your child down to pick up.
With the cold weather conditions, also comes the snow. Please remove your outdoor shoes when entering the school, racks are provided by the door for parent’s outdoor footwear. Students are to take their outdoor shoes to their assigned boot racks. This will keep our floors clean and also less slippery.
Students will soon need to be dressed for below zero temperatures. Student In-Days are -20C including windchill. Please ensure that your child will be dressed warmly for the weather conditions. Proper boots, hats, snow pants and jackets are required for students to play comfortably outside. Extra mitts are an excellent idea to have tucked inside of backpacks. Labelled clothing is harder to lose, so please label your child’s clothing clearly. This is especially important for t-shirts and hoodies as they are all the same.
If your child is going to be late or absent for any reason, please contact the office at 250-563-4208.
Please also note and discuss with your child(ren) that using the office phone is for emergencies and not to arrange after school plans.
Spruceland is an allergy aware school
- Be considerate of classroom allergies when sending lunches
and snacks to school.
- Use a paper towel so the food does not touch the desk or
table.
