Dear Members,

It was a heart-warming treat to watch the precious Copper River children entrust their Christmas wishes to Santa Claus during the December Sunday brunches.  We appreciate all who participated in the festivities and hope that all wishes were granted this holiday season!

Thank you for your generous contribution to the employee holiday fund.  The employees were overwhelmed by your kindness and especially by your expression of appreciation for their eff orts to make your experience at Copper River a positive one. They work hard, and often behind the scenes, to make Copper River a wonderful recreational venue.  It was very kind of you to contribute to the fund.  On behalf of the employees, thank you again.

Your Golf Shop staff , and Advisory Committee, have completed and posted the 2020 Golf Tournament Calendar.  Make your golfi ng experience complete by competing in as many of the tournaments as possible. Be sure to contact the Golf Shop and sign up for the upcoming tournaments.  Your team has put forth an interesting and fun array of tournaments.

Due to their increasing popularity, Thursday night dinners continue to grow every week.  Chef Ray and staff have created an enticing new menu to kick-off 2020.  The wonderful meals are a refl ection on each member of the culinary staff .  It takes each team member contributing their best to create such delicious off erings consistently. Make your reservations early.  This gives our culinary staff the chance to order and schedule appropriately.  We want your experience to be perfect!

Friday, February 14th, we will be off ering a lovely Valentine’s menu dinner.  At this time of year, it is extremely important to reaffi rm our love to those who are so special to us.  Make your reservation now as these valued seating’s will go quickly.

The Sunday Brunches also continue off ering delicious meals and value pricing for members.  Here, again, it is important that reservations are secured early to ensure you experience is the best possible.

You have been very patient while Copper River Country Club has been waiting for the improvements and repairs needed since the grounds were necessarily encroached upon during expansion of the housing projects encircling us.  I am pleased to report that all entities have agreed on a game-plan and will soon be completing the new and expanded lakes and landscaping which will improve the golf course presentation.  Thank you for your patience.

I trust that 2020 has started well for each of you.  Remember Copper River when planning family adventures.  Besides the fun and trusted Child Care Center, we have tennis, golf, health improving exercise and delicious meals for family bonding.  We are here to make your adventures memorable!

Happy New Year!!!

GOLF REVIEWGOLF REVIEW GOLF ADVISORYCOMMITTEE

Welcome 2020!!! A New Year brings excitement, joy, and great expectations. What will our golf games bring us in 2020? That’s hard to know. We have to start with what did 2019’s golf games leave us with? Improvement? Struggles? Consistency? Unknown New Rules? Progress? All these things can be seen in 2020. We can see even more improvement, our 2019 struggles can help us learn faster in 2020, we can become even more consistent or start to be consistent, we can learn the New Rules, and we can have even more progress towards our goals. One thing I know that is going to bring change to 2020 is the NEW WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM. Below are just some key changes to the new system and some items that are staying the same.

World Handicap System Starts Jan. 6th

Scores are to be Posted Day of Play (No Exceptions) Handicaps will change daily based on scores posted 8 of your last 20 will be used (old system used 10) New Max handicap of 54 for Ladies or Men NCGA will send out updates on the 1st and 15th For more information on the New system either contact the Golf shop or go to NCGA.org

Golf Course Guidelines – Over the last year we have been implementing some guidelines to help our Members and their Guests with items such as: Pace of play - by pairing smaller groups, Course conditions - with MAX 3 carts per group, Guest Policy – see Golf Shop for details, and Course Signage - to help golfers know where to go during course construction. We will continue with these items and others in 2020. It is our Goal to make Copper River Country Club a Club that all Members are proud of and proud to bring their guests too! The Club staff cannot do this alone; we need the help of the Members when it comes to making the Club the Best!

Vineyard Cup - The 2020 golf calendar is now posted and what a great looking schedule of events! What is the Vineyard Cup you might ask? The Vineyard Cup is a tournament at the end of the season between the Top 24 point leaders for Men & Top 16 point leaders for Ladies, playing a “Ryder Cup, Match Play style” event. The teams are divided into two teams (12 person teams for men & 8 person teams for Ladies). If interested in playing in any of the events for fun or to compete for Vineyard Cup Points, please contact the Golf Shop for more information.

IMPOSSIBLE OPEN TOURNAMENTFebruary 1st, 2020

Start Time: 10:00am ShotgunFormat: 2 Person Scramble

• Team may use 6 Clubs ONLY (Each Player brings 3)

• If you choose to use a Putter, this counts as one of the 6

• For all Tournament details or to sign up call the Golf Shop

The New Year is fi nally here! Let’s start off 2020 with a bang! It may sound cliché, but now is the best time to get started on your journey to a new, better, and healthier you. Setting small, achievable, goals is the best way to approach this new beginning. Maybe you start off by cutting out the dessert indulgence to only one night a week. Then, maybe cut back alcoholic beverages to only a few and only on the weekends. Before you know it, you’re on your way to setting aside time to being more active 30 minutes a day, 2-3 times a week.

Studies fi nd that making small gradual changes in your lifestyle have better long-term results. Think about it. How many times have you tried to make a complete 180 turn on your lifestyle, whatever it may be? How long did it last? Chances are when we try to do too much at once we tend to fail. How often have we heard people say, “Starting January 1st, I will eat only XYZ and workout 7 days a week”? Guaranteed that person did not last more than 2-3 weeks. They get burnt out!

Here at Copper River we are your one stop shop for encouragement, empowering, and motivation to keep on track through this season! We off er a wide range of classes daily, as well as Personal Trainers to keep you fi t all year around. If you would like a Health & Fitness consultation and/or further information on classes, personal training, diet needs, or mentoring on how to make these small lifestyle changes, contact our Head Fitness Trainer, Aaron Quick, at 476-3019 or at [email protected].

TGIF PARTNER CLASS

Beginning Friday, February 6th @ 4:30pm

Every Friday for the month of February the 4:30pm TGIF class will be dedicated to couples. Bring your spouse, relative, or friend. It’s a great opportunity to bring someone you care about and share an hour of fi tness fun. Many of the exercises will be working in 2’s, whether it’s for support and stability or challenge and encouragement. February is our month for spreading the love in the gym at Copper River. See you there!
