Hope- fully the weather was cooperative and the fishing was spectacular! Unfortu- nately, the early spring and sweltering summer did a number on the fishing for many of the lakes we all frequent. Excessively hot water temps lead many of us to back off the musky hunting and we were forced to target other species! Water temps on Lake of the Woods were in the upper 70’s during our club trip in July with water temps registering almost 79º at weeks end! With the cooler nights upon us, water temps are finally starting to drop and the musky hunting has resumed once again on our local lakes! Fish are starting to move shallow and anglers who can make the time are finally catching some nice Muskies! The leaves will be turning before you know it and the days will be getting noticeably shorter! Hopefully there is some vaca- tion time left in the hopper for you so you can make that fall getaway to your favorite lake. Time to enjoy the solitude fall fishing brings and to get in on some beautiful fall colors!! Don’t forget the camera! I couldn’t think of a better time than right now to get out & chase some Muskies! Our 23 rd Annual Bartlett Kids Fishing Derby was another HUGE success with nearly 300 children from ag- es 2-16 showing up for the event! Our Youth Directors Hugh Flack & Dave VanDoorn along with their fami- lies did a fantastic job getting a tremendous assortment of great prizes for everyone!! Many thanks to all the FRV members who worked to make this event possible!! I’d also like to thank our sponsors who donat- ed many-many fine prizes for the kids. Without their support, we couldn’t pull this off. Also many thanks to Dan Mitchell and his crew from the Bartlett Park District for doing an awesome job with the judge’s tables and the stage! They worked their tales off for this event; and it just keeps getting better & better!! Our monthly club meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 12 th at 7:00 PM at the Schaumburg Golf Club in Schaumburg. Our September guest speaker will be Eric Larsen from Rubber Hairy Tackle. Eric is a great muskie fisher- man who makes some awesome musky baits. Come early for the all you can eat buffet which opens at 6:00 PM prior to the 7:00PM meeting start. Cost is $12.00/adults. Bring a friend & don’t miss this great meeting!! Check the FRV website (www.frvmuskie.com) for detailed information on the buffet menu. Our 2012 Youth Outing to Lac Vieux Desert in Wisconsin is on schedule and we will have a mandatory meeting for all parents & kids who are attending this event on Wednesday September 26 th at 7:00PM at the Cabela’s in Hoffman Estates. The guides who are helping out are just as excited as the kids attending this event! It should be a great trip! Our fall “Challunge on the Chain” is right around the corner and will be held on Saturday, October 27 th at Famous Freddie’s on Pistakee Lake. Our M.C. is Chauncey Niziol from "Chauncey's Great Outdoors" on ESPN Radio Chicago! Cost to enter this one-day event is $200.00 per 2 man team. We are less than 50% filled, so there is plenty of room to get your team entered!! Finally, we are actively taking applications for 2013 board positions, so if you’re interested in making a difference; see me for an application. BOD nominations will be conducted in November and you’ll be officially voted in at the December meeting. Our December speaker for our “home brew” and lure swap night will be our own Dave VanDoorn. Can’t wait to see what Dave has cooking for the December meeting. It’s also our canned food drive for the Elgin Women’s Shelter. Bring 3 cans of food or dry goods to the December meeting and there is no admission fee charged at the door. As the calendar year begins to wind down, make sure you get a chance to enjoy some of what the great outdoors has to offer!! Get out and have some FUN whether fishing, hunting or camping!! Until next month….hope to see you on the water! Rich Gallagher

FRV welcomes the Fox Chain O’Lakes resident fisheries expert Frank Jakubicek. Frank has been working with the Illinois Department of Natural resources for around 18 years and at least 10 of those have been spent studying and surveying the Fox Chain as well as other bodies of water in Lake County. Some of our club members have even been lucky enough to see Frank at work with his team in the spring by volunteering to help pull fyke nets to measure, weigh, and tag muskies. What a great job!! So this will be a great presentation for everyone interested in the biology behind the muskie fishery success story on the Fox Chain. Check it out Wednesday night, Oc-tober 10th and hear what Frank has to say about his “time on the water.” ! - Our buffet dinner runs from 6:00 PM-7:00PM. - The meeting will start promptly at 7:00PM.

Things will get Hairy at Sept. Club Meeting! FRV welcomes Guest Speaker ERIC LARSEN , from Rubber Hairy Tackle

Our Wed Sept 12th Club Meeting will be hosted by Eric Larsen, who is best known as a “Big Fish” Trophy Musky

Guide in Central & Northern Wisconsin’s Vilas,& Onieda Counties. Larsen

others enjoy catching a their musky of a lifetime. Over the last 3 years Er- ic’s

boat has held a 46" average with very few fish under 40".

In addition to being a full time guide, Eric owns his own Musky Lure Co.

RubberHairy Tackle - building musky lure since 2005. RubberHairy fea-

tures hand poured rubber musky baits, & wood/rubber glide baits, -

(SEE AD BELOW). With Eric’s lure building in mind, it will be a hands on

FRV Madison Area Outing Sept 28-30, 2012

There have been numerous requests from FRV members to do a Madison, WI, area

outing...so NOW is your opportunity!

This is a great trip not far from NE

IL… so feel free to come on up even if

you can only get away for a day. If you

do need lodging, guide Kevin Moore

(Muskies, etc. Guide Service 414-425-

4575) has suggested checking out

where the PMTT teams stayed:

Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel 3841 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI, 53074, 1-608-244-2481

According to Mr. Moore… "Very nice,

rates start at $68, electric hook-ups

in the parking lot and close to the

launches."

Check the FRV website under “Outings/

Madison Outing Sept 28-30”. Jimmy Z has

started to list members' names and phone

#s who are planning on going. Even if

you are planning on just driving up for

the day, please add your info so you can

compare reports with other members, what lakes they’re fishing, baits/

colors and where they'll be having a cold one & grub after fishing! (And not

necessarily in that order!)

Mendota, Monona, Waubesa, Wingra, Upper

Mud. Which one of these lakes are you going to

be fishing?

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CORNER…

For the past year, our membership has remained slightly over the 300 mark, which puts the FRV chapter in 3rd place in the country. Our efforts to keep the numbers at 300 plus is due to a lot of hard work and diligence. Our biggest challenge is reminding members not to let their memberships expire, so if you receive a reminder letter from either FRV or MI, please don’t procrastinate, renew promptly…

You have the option of renewing your membership at the monthly meetings, or

by email to me, at [email protected] , or by going to the

www.muskiesinc.org website… Thank you all for your support...

2012 FRV Youth Musky Outing to be held at Lac Vieux Desert! FRV Chapter of Muskies, Inc. has announced a terrific opportunity for ten very lucky young anglers who will attend a

fall musky camp designed specifically for kids. From October 11-14th, 2012 the select group of young musky hunters will

embark on a fabulous chaperoned trip to Sunrise Lodge on the shores of Wisconsin and Michigan’s Lac Vieux Desert to fish

for some fat autumn Muskies! Youth participants will have all of their expenses paid by the Fox River Valley Chapter of

Muskies Inc. The name “Lac Vieux Desert” was literally translated by early French fur trappers in the region who found the

native Anishanaabe language version of the name meant “Old Garden” or “Old Clearing”.

The 4260 acre lake straddles the borders of Michigan and Wisconsin and is the starting point of the Wisconsin River. The

2012 youth musky outing continues the chapter’s long-standing tradition of organizing exciting trips for young musky fisher-

men, with opportunities to build their own fishing and outdoor heritage.

During these adventures, the developing anglers have the opportunity to

learn musky fishing skills, outdoor traditions, good sportsmanship, boating

safety, weather awareness, planning, organizational skills and a host of

other tools designed to help them throughout their lives both on and off the

water.

Complete details, travel requirements and outing specifics on the 2012 Fox

River Valley Chapter’s 2012“FRV Youth Musky Program” can be ob-

tained by visiting the website at www.frvmuskie.com.
