HEARTS FOR JESUS : KIDS 2 CAMP (January 18 – March 1) For the next 6 weeks our chapel offerings will be focusting on helping kids in the Detroit urban area learn about Jesus as the have fun participating in sports activies at summer camp. Every student will be bringing home an offering box that may be decorated in any way they would like, this box will come back each Wednesday for chapel. Each grade is raising money for a different type of sports equipment, each piece costs $10. Beginning February 1, each week the grade levels reach their weekly goal of at least $40 will receive a sports shirt/Christian shirt and jeans day for the following Wednesday.

VERY IMPORTANT PERSON (VIP) DAY – Friday, January 27th We would be delighted to have you join your Immanuel student for a morning of school. A morning of classroom activities and a special chapel awaits you. Extend an invitation to your VIP (Very Important Person) now. Your VIP could be a grandparent, godparent, family friend, parent, aunt, or uncle. There will be coffee & donuts in the morning in the gym. There will be NO ESC available after school on this day. *Each student may invite 1 very important person due to limited space.

NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK (Jan 23-27, 2017) (K-8)

Tuesday – PJ/Comfy Cozy Day Wear your pajamas, robes, slippers, comfy cozy/casual clothes (sweat shirts, sweat pants, t-shirt of favorite team), bring a stuffed animal, a favorite blanket to school. No leggings or yoga pants for girls. No jeans.

Wednesday – Sports/Sparkle Day Wear favorite sports team shirt (college, professional, or Immanuel) or wear a shirt that has sparkles – Jeans allowed. No leggings or yoga pants for girls.

Thursday – Mismatch/Crazy Hair Day Make your clothes clash. Make a crazy hairstyle, but make sure nothing is permanent – no jeans. No leggings or yoga pants for girls.

Friday – Christian/Immanuel Shirt Day Very Important Person Day Wear Christian clothes, jewelry, etc. Jeans may be worn. No leggings or yoga pants for girls.

National Lutheran Schools Week Service Projects (K-8) : Military Care Packages – Care packages will be sent to our military men and women in South Korea. Mrs. Matthews (our 1-4th grade aide) has a son there who is helping to pass these items out. You can send in any small items that would remind them of home: books, magazines, candy, puzzle books, etc… (P-4) : Books For Children In Need – Preschool through 4th grade will be collecting books (new or gently used) for Graceful Beginnings, an organization that furnishes homes for families in need in Macomb County. Please send in a “boy” book if you’re a boy, a “girl” book if you’re a girl, age appropriate for your grade. The books will be placed in the newly furnished homes as families are moving in. Please turn in the books by Thursday, January 26th. (5-8) : Serving Our Community – 5th through 8th grade will be serving others in our community, participating in activities such as : bingo at the nursing home, reading to special needs students, etc…

LIFE AWARENESS MONTH (January) During the month of January our students will have our Life Awareness classes, emphasizing the miraculous events of conception and God’s miracle of life. He made each one of us special and unique. Our Life Awareness instruction focuses on correct anatomical terms taught in the context of God’s plan for us. If you have any questions about Life Awareness, please contact your child’s teacher.

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION

Registration information for the 2017-2018 school year is now available. If you have a child currently enrolled in our Preschool

Program, you should have received a registration packet in your child’s backpack. If you have a younger child at home, and you

indicated so on your Registration Form, information should have come home in your child’s backpack as well. If you know of

anyone who would like to receive information about our program offerings for next year, please let us know. We will need the

following information in order to add them to our mailing list: Parent’s name, mailing address, email and/or phone number,

child’s name, child’s date of birth, and the program they are interested in. Registration information is also available on the

preschool web site. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the enrollment process, our course offerings, or if you

have not received the registration materials.

Preschool Box Tops Contest Throughout the month of February, collect and send box tops in your child’s backpack in a baggie or envelope labeled with your child’s name. DONATIONS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS Mrs. Thorpe is on a committee for the upcoming Michigan District Office Personnel Conference. As a service project, conference attendees will be filling gently used purses with beauty products for women in domestic violence shelters. These women often are unable to bring luxuries, such as purses and

beauty products, along with them when fleeing an abusive situation. If you would like to donate any gently used purses or new beauty products (either full size or sample size) please bring them into the school office between now and April 21, 2017. Thank you so much!

VALENTINE’S DAY CARNATION SALE Our Immanuel Lutheran School Student Council is sponsoring a Carnation Sale

for Valentine’s Day. Carnations on long stems will be $1.00 each. If your child would like to send a flower or two to a special friend, family member, a teacher, a parent, or if you want to send one to your child in school, please fill out the attached tags (one per flower ordered) and return them in an envelope to the school office. We will invoice you through Smart Tuition for your order. Orders are due Wednesday, February 8th. We will order the flowers and have them delivered to the classrooms at the end of the day on Tuesday, February 14th.

Get ready for our Winter BOX TOPS BLIZZARD Contest!! Throughout February, turn

in all the Box Tops you’ve collected! The K-8 Classroom with the most Box Tops will win! The

winning class will celebrate with a FROSTY Ice Cream Party, be COOL with a jeans day,

and CHILL with an extra recess! Check the bulletin board outside the office in February to

see if your class is winning! Remember, you can ask family, neighbors or friends to collect for you too! Have mom or dad ask at work!

IMMANUEL LUTHERAN WOMEN’S RETREAT – March 10-11, 2017 We will explore five women of the Bible : Sarah, Ruth, Deborah, Mary, and Martha and take a look at their lives and curcumstances and draw parallels to our lives, so many years later. Our theme Bible verse will be Psalm 16:9, Therefore my heart is glad… We will emjoy fum and fellowship with other women, great food, shed a few tears (and many from laughter), stay up late, make new friends, and enjoy old friends. It’s a retreat you don’t want to miss!

SCHOLASTIC ART AWARD Congratulations to Immanuel Artist Sadie Blaszczyk for earning a GOLD KEY, the highest award in a category for her pointillism drawing of a ballerina!! Only 473 pieces were given an award out of 2600 entries. When you see Sadie in the halls be sure to offer her congratulations!! We hope you’ll join us at the Awards Ceremony on Monday, January 31st at the Macomb Center for Performing Arts at 7:00 p.m., and the Exhibit opening following the ceremony at the Lorenzo Cultural Center.

ENGINEERING FOR KIDS – WINTER PROGRAMS Engineering For Kids brings science, techonology, engineering, and math (STEM), to kids ages 4-14 in a fun and challenging way through classes, camps, clubs, and parties. STAGE STARS – After School Program (2nd – 6th Grade) No previous acting experience is necessary. The theater games help the students use their creativity to communicate and improvise. Every student will play at least one lead role per session. The students will learn theater terms, the parts of a skit, and goals of the characters. Each child will receive a participation award and the skits will also be performed on the last day and parents are invited to attend!
