TheFacultyishometo5000undergraduateand1500postgraduatestudentsinprogrammesthatincludespecialistmedicalanddentaltrainingandfellowshipsinmorethan40disciplines.Studentsaretrainedby600academicstaffmembersinfourschools,namely,Dentistry,HealthcareSciences,MedicineandHealthSystemsandPublicHealth.

TheFacultyofHumanitiesatUPisoneoftheoldestandmostrespectedhumanitiesfacultiesinSouthAfrica.TheFacultywasestablishedin1919,and2019willseethecelebrationofitscentenary.Ithasalongtraditionof,andextensiveexperienceinprovidingundergraduateandpostgraduateprogrammesinawiderangeofdisciplinesinthelanguages,arts,andthehumanities and social sciences.

From1January2019Englishwillbethelanguageofteachingandlearningforallfirst-yearprogrammes.Theonlyexceptionsarewherestudentsarestudyingotherlanguagesorinprogrammeswithprofession-specificlanguageoutcomes,subjecttoapprovalbySenate.Englishwillalsobethelanguageofofficialcommunicationandadministrationonallcampusesandinresidences.Whererequestedandfeasible,administrativeservicesmaybeprovidedinotherSouthAfricanlanguages.
Studentswhoregisteredpriorto2019,includingthosewhoregisteredin2018forthefirsttime,willcontinuetoreceivelectures,tutorials,studyguidesandassessmentmaterial(questionpapers,assignmentsandthelike)inAfrikaansforthoseprogrammeswhichwereofferedinAfrikaansatthetimeofenrolment,providedthattheclasssizeremainspracticallyfeasibleanditisacademicallyjustifiable.

TheNewImmigrationRegulationsof2014werepublishedinGovernmentGazetteNo37679intermsofsection7oftheImmigrationAct13of2002andcameintoeffecton26May2014.Bothprospectiveandreturningstudentsareadvisedtovisitwww.vfsglobal.com/dha/southafricaforalltherequiredinformation.
AllforeignnationalswishingtoenterSouthAfricawillhavetoadheretotheNewImmigrationRegulations.
TheDepartmentofHomeAffairshasannouncedtheopeningofvisaandpermitfacilitationcentresin11citieslocatedinthenineprovincesofSouthAfrica(VFSGlobal).VisaandpermitapplicationswillbeacceptedatanyofthesecentresandwillbeassessedbytheDepartmentofHomeAffairsinPretoria.Non-SouthAfricanswithlegalresidencypermitscanapplyforvisasorpermits at these centres.
Everynon-SouthAfricancitizenisrequiredtoholdavalidpassportandatemporaryresidencepermit,suchasastudyvisaendorsedforstudyatUP.Non-SouthAfricancitizenswishingtoenterSouthAfricashouldonlyapplyforstudyvisasoncetheyhavereceivedanofficialletterofadmission.
