U.P.R.R. Circular 10A

This directory has been compiled to provide convenient information as toUnion Pacific merchandise service available between principal cities; also, transittime from principal Union Pacific Transfers to various Union Pacific destinations.

All merchandise cars are scheduled to operate daily, Monday through Fridayunless otherwise specified, (subject to change without notice). Transit time shownopposite stations indicates scheduled day, exclusive of loading day, merchandiseis available for delivery or reforwarding. Merchandise arriving destination onSaturday or Sunday, normally will be handled Monday; however, some transferpoints operatemore than five days per week—North Platte, as an example, operatesseven days per week.

For convenience in checking transit time, the following example is cited 1——

When checking transit time to a point on the Union Pacific—Greeley, 0010., for instance—refer to index herein which shows “1” day service from North Platte to Greeley. Then byreference to Section “ B’ ’ it will be noted North Platte receives scheduled through cars fromnumerous eastern origins, and opposite each origin is shown transit time, in days, to NorthPlatte, which transit time added to that from North Platte to Greeley, indicates thescheduled through time.Should a shipment originate at a New England point, for example, it is assumed informationcan readily be secured locally, by reference to origin line directory, as to desirable routingfrom origin to some major intermediate transfer or assembly point which regularly loadsdirect cars to North Platte, or to some other major transfer, such as shown in Sections”A” and llB”.

Utilization of direct routes, via which scheduled through cars operate, naturallyserves to avoid unnecessary transfers and expedites through movement; hence, shippers are urged to favorably consider such scheduled through cars when speci-fying routing.
