* What are they telling us about the product?

They are a likening their product to a shark: streamlined, formidable and exciting

* Is there a message in the advert?

Yes, the message is that by owning the car you too are formidable and exciting. It also implies that the shark-like lines of the car make it superior to other models, because it has the physical prowess of a shark

* Who is the advert meant for?

The target audience are probably wealthy (BMWs are renowned for being expensive) men, as the colours used in the advert are minimalist and masculine. In that sense the advert is very well suited to its target audience.

* What type of advert is it?

I would say that this advert is dramatic and conceptual

* What do you think of the advert and do you think it works?

I think this advert is effective because the abstract nature of the photograph encourages the viewer to look closer, and endears them to the product.

A Car: Volvo XC90

* What are they advertising?

Volvo

* What are they telling us about the product?

That their product is a family car with a difference: it has been designed with all the practical features of a family car, but it has the added bonus of being suitable for off-roading.

* Is there a message in the advert?

The fact that the XC90 is suitable for off-road driving makes it superior to other models of car on the market; the XC90 is a unique car for unique people/ families- it defies the stereotype that all family cars are boring.

* Who is the advert meant for?

Families who enjoy outdoor, adventurous pursuits, so possibly younger families with a moderate income (Volvos are mid-range cars.)

* What type of advert is it?

I would say that this advert is dramatic

* What do you think of the advert and do you think it works?

I think that the dramatic landscape makes this advert effective, as it catches the eye and makes the viewer want to immerse themselves in that environment, by purchasing the product.
