So what’s the big deal about properties of materials? Well, people use different materials that best fit the job. For example, if you “accidentally” flooded your bathroom floor, you would use something that can clean up the mess, such as a towel or a sponge. When a material is able to take water from an area, you can say that it has an absorption property. Or if you wanted to build a chair you could sit on, you would use a material that is hard and solid, such as wood or metal. Metal or wood is good for the job because it can withstand a lot of force before breaking!

Knowing which material does what is important for when you grow up in life. If you’re a kid that wants to build something for fun, or a construction worker that needs to build a bridge across a river, knowing your materials is always important!
