Macquarie University has been working in partnership with SIBT since 1996. The association is designed to offer eligible students an alternative and supportive pathway to university studies. Already over 18,500 SIBT graduates have gone on to enter second year of a Macquarie bachelor’s degree.

SIBT provides alternative pathways to Macquarie University and Macquarie City Campus for students who may not qualify for direct entry to a degree program and seek a supportive learning environment. SIBT offers a range of courses to suit your academic needs.

Teaching and assessmentSIBTstudentsattendfourhoursofclassroom‑basedlecturesandtutorialsperunitperweek.Youwillalsoneedtospendapproximatelysixtoeighthoursperweekforeachunitonself‑directedstudy.

Themethodofassessmentmayvarydependingonthecourseandunitsselected.Acombinationofuniversityapprovedassessmentsincludingassignments,essays,oralpresentations,tutorialparticipationandformalexaminationsmaybeused.

Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation Program TheCertificateIVinTertiaryPreparationProgramisafoundationcoursethatwillprepareyoufordiploma‑levelstudies.Itisdesignedforstudentswhodonotmeettheacademicrequirementstoadvancedirectlytoadiploma.Aftersuccessfullycompletingeightacademicunitsintheprogram,youwillbeguaranteedentryintoanSIBTdiplomacourse.

Mixed English programThisoptionallowsyoutocombineEnglishlanguagestudieswiththeCertificateIVinTertiaryPreparationProgramcourse.ItallowsstudentstoimprovetheirEnglishwhilestudyingselectacademicunitsintheCertificateIVcourse.TheMixedEnglishprogramissuitableforstudentswithanIELTSscoreof5.0(orequivalent).

Advanced diploma programs

TheadvanceddiplomaconsistsofastandardSIBTdiploma(eightunits)plusfouradditionalunits.Theseadditional

unitsareequivalenttothefirstsemesterofsecondyearinaMacquarieUniversitybachelor’sdegree.YouwillbeofferedaplaceintheadvanceddiplomaprogramifyoubeginyourstudiesintheOctobersemester;asMacquarieUniversitydoesnotofferclassesbetweenOctoberandFebruary,theadvanceddiplomaallowsstudentstocontinuetheirstudiesatSIBTduringthatperiod.StudentswhoenjoytheSIBTlearningenvironmentcanalsochoosetocontinuestudyingtheadvanceddiploma.

Associate Degree in BusinessTheAssociateDegreeinBusinessisatwo‑yearprogramcomprising16academicunits.ItisequivalenttothefirsttwoyearsofMacquarieUniversity’sBachelorofBusinessAdministration.Aftercompletingtheassociatedegree,youwilladvancetothethirdyearofthebachelor’sdegree.TheassociatedegreeissuitableforstudentswhowishtocontinuestudyinginSIBT’ssupportivelearningenvironmentbeforeproceedingtoMacquarieUniversity.

Navitas bursaries and scholarships

Navitas family bursariesNavitasoffersfinancialsupportintheformoffamilybursaries.AbursaryapplieswheretwoormorestudentsfromthesamefamilystudywithaNavitasmemberinstitution.*

ThefirstfamilymembercanbestudyingwithaNavitasmemberinstitutionatthesametimeasotherfamilymembers,ortheymayhavepreviouslystudiedwithanyNavitasmemberinstitution.ThebursaryisgrantedtothesecondandsubsequentfamilymemberswhostudywithaNavitasmemberinstitution.Forthepurposeofthisbursary,afamilymemberisdefinedasahusband,wife,brother,sister,mother,father,son,daughterorstepchild.

Thebursaryisequivalentto10percentoftuitionfeeforthefirstattemptatunitsorcoursesintheprogramofstudy(i.e.acertificate,diploma,UniversityTransferProgram(UTP),bachelor’sdegree,pre‑master’sprogram,postgraduatequalifyingprogramormaster’sdegree)†withaNavitasmemberinstitution(excludingtheMixedEnglishoption).‡Thisamountiscreditedtotheeligiblestudent’stuitionfeeaccounteachacademicterm,withtheamountbeingrelevanttothenumberofunitsundertakeninthatterm.Thebursarydoesnotapplytoadditionalunitsorrepeatunitsthatmayalsobeundertaken.
