Three Step Response

• If you are in the building with the shooter:o Get outo Hide outo Take out

• If you are in a different building from the shooter:o Stay inside the buildingo Wait for official notification to leave the building

• If you are outdoors apply the following to your situation:o Determine where shots are coming fromo Take cover & call 817-735-2600 immediatelyo Assess situationo Determine escape route

Get Out

• Exit the building (If possible)

• Find a safe place to go

• Call 817-735-2600 to reporto Provide location of shooting

o Provide description of shooter

Hide Out

• When you can’t get out safelyo Shooter is in close proximityo You may be visible to the shooter

• Follow these steps: o Lock out

Lock doors (If possible) Barricade doors/Create trip hazards

o Lights out Turn out all lights in the room Silence cell phones and do not use

Take Out

• When shooter will or has entered

• Follow these steps: o Plan out

Distractors-Throw items at shooter

Attackers-Take down the shooter

o Spread out Do no cluster together for comfort

• Provide safety briefing at first department meeting each semester

• Discuss and review procedures at safety committee meetings

• Think of possible scenarios to keep in a planning mindset
