It consists of thirteen vocalists and a four-piece rhythm section who will perform a challenging and varied repertoire of jazz and jazz- influenced music with close vocal harmonies and cutting-edge improvisation for your enjoyment! This ensemble was the winner of the DownBeat Magazine award for a collegiate Vocal Jazz Ensemble in 2016, as well as Outstanding Performance awards for many other years. They have performed at many music conferences and festivals, such as the Texas Music Educators Association, and by special invitation at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. Jennifer Barnes , Director of Vocal Jazz at UNT, is a highly sought-after vocalist, educator, clinician and arranger who has directed award-winning ensembles at eight universities and won the 2016 “Jazz Education Achievement Award” from DownBeat Magazine. She has sung solos and in groups for TV shows, movies and video games such as “World of Warcraft” and “Glee”. She earned her Master of Music degree in Studio Music and Jazz Performance from the University of Miami and Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Western Michigan University.
