How to backup PS2 DVD games with DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn

The purpose of this tutorial is to explain how to backup PS2

DVD-ROM games with commonly used software including DVD Decrypter and

ImgBurn. I will also outline how to book type with each of these programs. Your burner

must support booktyping/bitsetting. Part II of ths tutorial will outline burning and

booktyping with Nero Burning ROM and Alcohol 120%. You can also use this tutorial

for copying your backups to other discs. The process is exactly the same as backing up

originals.

You will need:

1. A DVD Burner.

2. Quality DVD Media.

3. A modifcation to your PS2, a soft mod like Swap Magic, or a hard mod like

a modchip. You cannot direct boot PS2 backups, you must have some type of modification to

your PS2 to play backup games.

4. Burning software like DVD Decrypter, Img Burn, Nero, or Alcohol 120%.

5. A PS2.

6. 6-10 GB's of free HD space.

In short, booktyping/bitsetting means fooling your DVD player into thinking a DVD+R or

DVD+R DL is a pressed DVD-ROM. This improves compatibility with stand alone DVD

players, including your PS2. DVD-ROM is the most universally compatible DVD format

with standalone players. V.4 PS2's and later will read DVD+R's book typed to DVD-ROM

fine. DVD+R's also are of better quality than DVD-R's.

Before we get started, here's a few pointers you should always use for successful DVD

Burning.

1. Use Quality Media. The PS2 laser is very picky. Unlike most standalones, it will not play

anything you throw at it. Furthermore, cheap media uses low quality dyes which will speed

your laser to the cemetery. At $50 a pop, most of us can't afford a new laser at the drop of a

dime. Use quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Maxell High Grade DVD+/ -R's.

These brands use quality azo (metal) dyes which will go easy on your PS2 laser. DVD+R vs.

DVD-R doesn't matter as much, what matters is the manufacturer. I prefer DVD+R's, but

DVD-R's will work just as well.

2. Make sure your firmware is up to date. Firmware is defined as:

3. Close all programs while burning like AV, scanners, internet, etc. This will put less strain

on your memory usage and enable all of it to be dedicated to the burning process. This is

crucial to ensure quality backups.

4. Make sure DMA Mode is enabled. How to:

5. Defrag your Hard Drive. Clutter from fragmented files can impede your PC's access to

crucial memory files. Defragging is a good way to clear up space and optimize your PC's

access to files stored on the HD. This will improve speed and efficiency for DVD Burning

and all applications.

6. At the end of each section, you'll notice I have quality scans included. You can get an

estimate of the quality of your burns by using a program called Nero CD/DVD Speed. Under

the Disc Quality tab, check all the features except quick scan. Quick scans will not yield

accurate results. Set the speed to whatever speed you burn at. Then click start. This scan will

take 15-20 minutes. These scans are not absolute, but they're a good barometer to see if

you're doing things the right way. Nero CD/DVD Speed does not work with all burners. If

some of the features are greyed out, your burner may not support CD/DVD Speed scans.

Liteon burners use a program called K-probe. It does about the same thing, except it's

specifically designed for Liteon burners. Plextor burners use a program called Plextools.

Again it's about the same, except it's made especially for Plextor burners.

Part I- Backing up PS2 Games with DVD Decrypter:

Guide:

1. Insert your Original PS2 game in your DVD-ROM drive.

2. Open DVD Decrypter.

3. Click Mode-->Iso-->Read.

4. Go to Tools-->Settings.

5. Under the I/O tab, check ignore read errors.

6. Under the Iso Read Mode tab, set file splitting to none. Note: This isn't

absolutely necessary, but it seems to cause newbies a lot of confusion when

the iso file is split.

7. Click ok.

8. Click Decrypt.

9. Go chill while the game rips to your Hard Drive, it shouldn't take more

than 5-10 minutes.

10. It's Done! Click ok. Once it's done, you'll get an iso and a mds file.

11. Insert your quality blank DVD.

12. Go to Mode-->Iso-->Write.

13. Set the write speed to half the max speed of the DVD.

14. Click the open file button.

15. Browse to the mds file. Double click it. Or single click it and click open. Note: If there's

no mds file present, use the iso. This is a common occurence when downloading a game.

16. Click Write.

17. Let it burn. It should take about 15 minutes to finish at 4x. Burn times

will vary with write speed.

18. It's done! Enjoy your backup!

Here's the quality scan:

Booktyping with DVD Decrypter:

1. Click the Book Icon.

2. You'll get this menu.

3. Select your model burner. In this case I will select BenQ, as I have a

BenQ DW 1640.

4. In the "Change For" box, Select DVD+R or DVD+R DL from the drop down menu. I will

select DVD+R here, because I'm using Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R's. Note: You can only play

Dual Layer PS2 backups if you have a modchip that supports them. The Matrix Infinity,

DMS 4 Pro SE, and Crystal Chip all support Dual Layer backups. Swap Magic does not.

5. After you've selected DVD+R from the "change for" box, click DVD-ROM in the "New

Setting" box from the drop down menu.

6. Click change.

7. Success! Click ok.

8. Then burn as normal. Notice the result, the booktype reads as DVD-ROM.

Part II- ImgBurn

Note: ImgBurn is a burning app only, you will need to rip games with DVD Decrypter using

the guide above. For purposes of this guide I'm assuming you've already done so. One you're

ready to burn, consult this section. ImgBurn is done by Lightning UK, the same coders who

created DVD Decrypter. Hence you will notice obvious similarities between the programs.

ImgBurn is a superior burning app in my opinion.

1. Insert your quality Blank DVD.

2. Open ImgBurn.

3. Go to Mode-->Write.

4. Click the Open File button.

5. Browse to your mds file. Double click it or single click it and click

open.

6. Set the write speed to half the max speed of the disc.

7. Click Write.

8. Go have a brew and wait for it to finish. Burning at 4x will take around 15 minutes. Burn

time will vary according to the size of the iso and write speed.

9. It's done!!!

Here's the ensuing quality scan:

Booktyping with ImgBurn:

1. Click the book icon.

2. You'll get a menu like this.

3. Select your model burner. I have a BenQ DW 1640, so I select the BenQ

tab.

4. Click DVD+R or DVD+R DL in the "Change For" drop down menu, depending on which

type of disc you're backing up. Here I'll select DVD+R, since I'm burning to Taiyo Yuden 8x

DVD+R's.

5. Click the New Setting box. Select DVD-ROM from the drop down menu.

6. Click change.

7. Success!

8. Click ok. Then burn as normal.

9. Notice the DVD-ROM booktype when it's finished burning.

How to backup PS2 games with Nero Burning ROM and Alcohol 120%

This tutorial will cover how to backup PS2 DVD games with Nero Burning ROM and

Alcohol 120%.

Part III- Nero Burning ROM:

1. Insert your original PS2 DVD-ROM game in your DVD drive.

2. Open Nero Burning ROM. This guide is for Nero Burning ROM, not Start Smart. Navigate

to it through the Start Menu.

2. You'll see a screen like this. Exit out of the New Compilation box.

3. Select your recorder.

4. Click Recorder, and scroll down to the Copy disc option. Click it.

Or simply click Copy on the top of the program.

5. This menu will appear.

6. Select DVD from the drop down menu.

7. Select a name for your Image and a pick a destination under the Image tab.

8. Select your Recorder and Read Speed under the Read Options tab.

9. Under the Read options tab, set fast copy settings to user defined, check reading with error

correction and ignore read errors.

10. Under the burn tab, check write. Set the write speed to half the max speed of the disc.

11. Click Copy. Note: Image files created with Nero will have a .nrg file extension. That's

what the nrg extension means.

12. Let the image rip. It won't take long, so hang around.

13. It's Done! Insert a quality blank DVD-R/+R when you're prompted.

14 Let it burn. Burn speed will vary according to the size of the image and write speed.

15. It's Done!

Book typing with Nero:

1. Click on Recorder at the top of the screen.

2. Select your Recorder and click the options button.

3. Click in the "book type settings" box. Select automatic from the drop down menu.

4. Click ok.

5. Then burn as normal. Notice the DVD-ROM booktype when it's burning.

Part IV- Alcohol 120%

1. Insert your original PS2 DVD-ROM game in your DVD-ROM drive.

2. Open Alcohol 120%.

3. Click Image Making Wizard.

4. Click the "skip read errors" box. Click the "seperate image every" box. Select never

seperate from the drop down menu.

5. Click Next.

6. Pick a name and destination for the image.

7. Click Start.

8. Chill for a minute while the image rips. It shouldn't take long. Tick the "close this dialog

box after process finished" box.

9. It's done! You'll get a mdf and a mds file when it's done.

10. Right click the mds file and select Image Burning Wizard.

11. Click Next.

12. That will bring up this menu.

13. Select your recorder, set the write speed to half the max speed of the disc, check enable

buffer underrun technology, and check write.

14. Click Start.

15. Sit tight for 10-15 minutes. Burn speed will vary according to the size of the image and

write speed.

16. It's done! Click ok.

17. Click Finish.

The quality scan:

Book typing with Alcohol 120%:

1. Go to File-->Options.

2. This will bring up the options menu.

3. Select Recording from the file tree. Click the "Booktype DVD as

DVD-ROM while burning" box. Note: Never use DVD-RW's with the PS2, they put terrible

strain on the laser. Always use quality DVD-R/+R's.

4. Click ok.

5. Notice the DVD-ROM booktype when it's finished burning. Go to CD/DVD Manager--

>Disc to check the booktype after it's finished burning.

Easy Methods to rebuild PS2 Games

OK, I know that there's a lot of guides/methods are posted here on "how to rebuild a DVD9 PS2 games" into DVD5 already. However, seems like some newbies are having troubles regardless of how great those guides are. Here is an "easy/simple" guide, especially for those clueless newbies

with Swap Magic.

In this guide, I will use 50CENT BULLETPROOF, since it's 5.95GB and many newbies (Swap Magic users) are having troubles rebuilding or backing up the game and or any games that's over 4.7GB. With that being said, we can't just have DVD Decrypter or Nero to rip and burn onto a single layer

4.7GB. Apparently, in order for you to have a successful backup and play, you'll need to rebuild the game so your Swap Magic Disc can boot it up properly. This is a working method, I've tried and

tested the backups and it works!

NOTE: some PS2 games will need to have a special "RipKit/Tool", in order to successfully rebuild and backup. To name a few like GT4, GOW (US) and XENOSAGA Episode 1 (US). These games are totally

different and needs it's own "ripkit" to process in order to backup and have a success burned. Additionally, keep in mind that not every rebuild games will GUARANTEE to work 100%, a few will

freeze/hang up, black screen, some you'll need to rebuild a few times or burn to different high quality media a few times, etc.

TOOLS NEEDED FOR THIS GUIDE or FUTURE

I highly recommend whoever don't have them yet, grab it before it's gone because it won't be there long.

NOTE: In this guide, I will only use ISO Buster Pro 1.8, CDVD GEN 1.5, Gnie's IML2ISO and Nero

Express (Nero 7) to burn. Burning is a choice/preference of yours, so use which ever programs you're more experienced to burn. Of course, I do nearly 50% and 50% on both DVD Decrypter and Nero for

the burning process.

Since nearly everyone knows how to rip the game via DVD Decrypter using MODE, ISO, READ R into the hard drive and MODE, ISO, WRITE to burn, so I'll just briefly write for that process for now.

**STEP 1**

- rip the game with DVD Decrypter via MODE, ISO, READ R to your hard drive.

**STEP 2**

- Extract the ISO or files with ISO Buster Pro 1.8 -- now Open up ISO Buster Pro 1.8

Now make a Folder in your hard drive called ISO BUSTER EXTRACT or something that you'll remember.

Once ISO Buster is completed, don't close it... leave it open, but just minimize down on your taskbar only because you'll need that for reference to get going with CD/DVD GEN 1.5.

**STEP 3**

Now open up CD/DVD GEN 1.5

Now bring back up ISO Buster Pro 1.8 again, so you can reference the files in order.

at DISC NAME: put SLUS 21315 (with no period). NOTE: sometimes it will be SLES XXXXX. at PRODUCER NAME: always put PLAYSTATION, at VOLUME: put 50CENT or name of the game, at

PUBLISHER: put your name or anything, at LICENSE NAME: America (or wherever the disc/or you're from, so if you're from Europe, put Europe, if you're from Japan, put Japan).

Now go into your hard drive and create a Folder name IML, then EXIT out.

**STEP 4**

Now open up Gnie's IML2ISO

**STEP 5**

Burning the ISO Image, now you can Open up DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn or Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom and burn your newly rebuild game. For this guide, I'm using Nero Express to burn.

Why? Because I like the fact that Nero can/will "automatically" set the "Booktype" into DVD-ROM whenever I used a DVD+R media. However, the choice is yours.... I've done both DVD Decrypter and

Nero equally, but lately I just don't like to go inside the settings via DVD Decrypter and set the "booktype" prior to the burning process that's all.

I preferred any DVD+R from Taiyo Yuden, Hitachi Maxell (Made In Japan by Hitachi Corp.) and Verbatim "advanced azo" or "datalife plus" and have them "Booktyping" into DVD-ROM. With

booktyping them into DVD-ROM format, you're FREE OF WORRIES... that's right, you hear me, any PS2 consoles will play any DVD-ROM format flawlessly.

That's it...... now you can pop up a Hennessey or Tequila and play all night long.

NOTE: If you have the following set to "Automatic", then whenever you use Nero Express (for PS2 games or dvd movies), Nero Burning Rom (for dvd movies) Nero Recode 2 & Nero Vision (for dvd

movies) to burn, all your backups will automatically set the “BookType” to DVD-ROM if you’re using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL media. That is... if your dvd burner is capable of booktyping.

How to set the "Booktype" or "Bitsetting" using Nero Burning Rom by Alkohol

NOTE: this is just the settings only, it will work even if you burn your PS2 games with Nero Express, it will automatically "Booktype" your DVD+R into DVD-ROM when you're burning with Nero Express or

Nero Burning Rom.[/b]

01) open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom 02) EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up

03) click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down) 04) click on “Options," then on "Booktype Settings," set to "Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every time when you burn using a DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL disc, Nero

will “automatically” change the Booktype into a DVD-ROM format.

OK folks I just want to throw in another Gnie's ExPERT rebuilding guide and add to my guide here

that's all. For those that has no idea on how to use Gnie's ExPERT; here's a simple guide for you all, so look no further. Basically, Gnie's ExPERT is another useful tool that automatically rebuild the ISO

into a new rebuilt ISO without going through hustle or hassle.

**Things to remember: make sure your burner's firmware is up-to-date with the latest available firmware for your burner. Firmware enhances media compatibility, with that being said, it helps to

burn and or write to the most newest media in the market now-a-days easily. Another good rule of thumb is to always use high quality media, don't blame me if you burned it too fast, too slow or

if you're using crap/junk unknown media.

If you still DON'T KNOW how to rip the main ISO with DVD Decrypter, then it is obvious that you're

not a true gamer(s).

**NOTE: Extremely important here; for this guide, I will use the ISO disc 2 from XENOSAGA only, but you can use it for any of your future or new PS2 games ripped ISO.

or Maxell (made in japan by Hitachi Corp.) and you should be all square away.

PS2 Versions and Modchips by Glitched

Most People Don’t Know What Version Their PS2 and What Modchip To Get, So Here’s A Guide On PS2 Versions And Modchips !!!!!!! V1/V2/V3 To check if you have the V1/V2/V3 PS2 Turn the Playstation upside-down and check how many screws there are. The screws are covered by black plastic or rubber hole covers. You can easily remove the screw covers by prying them off with a small flat head precision screwdriver If you have 10 bottom screws you have a V1, V2 or V3 PS2 model. V4 To check if you have the V4 PS2. The model # can be SCPH-30000, SCPH-30001, 35001, SCPH-30002, 35002, SCPH-30003, 35003, SCPH-30004, 35004 If the marked screw doesn't show up in the expansion bay of your PS2 then please take a look on the bottom of the PS2 case. If there is an electrical hazard warning on the bottom of the case then it is a V4. V5/V6 To check if you have the V5/V6 PS2 The model numbers can be SCPH-30000R, SCPH-30001 R, SCPH-30002 R, SCPH-30003 R, SCPH-30004 R, SCPH-30006 R But also some SCPH-30000, SCPH-30001, SCPH-30002, SCPH-30003 and SCPH-30004 PS2 have a V5/V6 main board. To check if you have the V8 The V8 was only released in the Japanese market. The model # can be SCPH-39000 or SCPH-39006 (GH-022 BIOS 090). V9 To check if you have the V9 If your model # is SCPH-50000, 50001, 50010, 50002, 50003 or 50004 you have a V9 PS2 main board (GH-023 board). SCPH 50001 / 50010 date code 3a-3b-3c is a V9. SCPH-55006/55007 GT (white console) is also a V9. SCPH-70001 (for North America) The Warranty Sticker location has moved from the back and is now located directly over one of the (6) screws on the v13 underside. Another major change includes the removal of the Phone Line from the back of the v13 console; however, the Network Line is still present. There is also a small layout change around the Motor Driver IC of the PSTwo main board (now GH-032-XX). SCPH-70004 (for Europe) Main board is GH-032-13 What Is A ModChip? A Mod Chip allows any console to play imported games, backup CD/DVD media, homebrews and media from a PC (such as MP3’s), without any setbacks. A PS2 Mod Chip permits the purchaser of the original game to play backup copies in case the original copy is lost or damaged. A gaming console has a protection system that eliminates the ability to use such copies, but with a console equipped with a mod chip will disable this protection enabling you to boot backups and imports that original consoles cannot without the assistance of a mod chip. For those of you who had problems using with jjax's guide to loading backups, or for those who want a working Memory Card Exploit for their slims, here's how to make a working exploit to boot from the Memory Card, the actual CD-ROM, or tdude's method, through a USB Memory Stick. CD method 1) First off, you need the following things: -Action Replay MAX(V 3.36 was used) -MAX Media Creator(included with Action Replay MAX) -1 blank CD-R(Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony) -CD Loader ELF(found here: http://www.geocities.com/jjax1975/CDLOADER.zip) -Cog-Swap ELF(link is down, will find a new one) -PS2 Exploit Utility 5.1(found here: http://www.iscentral.net/console/PS2_Exploit_Utility5.1.zip) -WinRAR(to extract the compressed files) -Alcohol 120%(to burn the exploit disc) -USB Memory Stick(to put CD Loader) 2) Now that you have all you need, un-zip all the files you downladed with WinRAR and launch PS2 Exploit Utility. 3) Here's what you have to do for each of the tabs: -Title.db: nothing -Loader: nothing(keep uLaunchELF 3.61 selected) -Files: click "Browse for file", locate COGSWAP.elf, click it, and click "Add" -IP Options: click "Yes" ONLY if you will use your PlayStation 2 over a network -Region: NTSC for NTSC U/C consoles, PAL for PAL, and JAP for NTSC J -Extras: keep the dummy file the way it is and assign Cog-Swap to one of the buttons -Create Exploit: select "CD/HD image (bin/cue)" and select "Live CD" in "Options for CD image" 4) Now that everything is set up, click "Create Exploit!". Click "Image Burning Wizard". Locate your CD image, click it, then click "Next". You will now be at a window called: Prepare your CD/DVD recorder. Set the write speed to 4X , datatype to PlayStation 2, check "Rectify Sub-Channel Data", then click "Start".

6) You now have the Exploit CD ready. You now need a way to boot it. We'll use CD Loader. Install MAX Media Creator and start it up. Click "Add file", and locate CDLOADER. elf. Click "USB Drives" in "Output Media", select the location of your USB memory stick, and click "Create". 7) You now have CD Loader and your Exploit disc. Put Action Replay MAX in your PlayStation 2 and power it on. When it's loaded, look for MAX Media Center(called MAX Media or Media Player), select it and press X. 8) Once it's loaded, plug in your USB Memory Stick and wait until CDLOADER.elf is displayed on the top right of the screen. If you get a message saying that nothing was found on the USB Memory Stick, keep plugging and unplugging it until CDLOADER.elf shows up. Once it does, highlight "Play" and press X. 9) When CD Loader is loaded, swap the Action Replay MAX disc for your Exploit boot disc and press X. If you get a screen that becomes red with a pink border turning to yellow and disappearing, the boot is a sucess, but if the border stays pink, you did something wrong. 10) You should now see LaunchELF's main menu. If you get an error message while trying to boot Cog-Swap, press "Select", locate the button you assigned Cog-Swap to, press O, press O on Cdfs, press O again on "BxDATA", find COGSWAP.ELF, and select it with O. Return to the main menu, and press the button assigned to Cog-Swap. 11) Here's how to use Cog-Swap: CD-ROM: 1) Swap the uLaunchELF disc with your backup when the Cog-Swap screen loads with a blue disc and the writing "PS2 CD-ROM" or similar underneath. DVD-ROM: 1) Remove the piece you have put over the front lid sensor of your PlayStation 2. The piece

should be over this thing: 2) Insert a high TOC ORIGINAL DVD-ROM game(one that has a silver base) whose size is over 4GB(you have to check on your computer, and you CANNOT use a Dual Layer DVD-ROM game, which are those that are over 4.37GB). 3) Place the piece you removed from the lid sensor shown earlier back where it was. 4) Keep an eye on your screen until a yellow disc shows on the screen with "PS2 DVD-ROM" or something like that under it. 5) Once you see the yellow disc with "PS2 DVD-ROM" or similar, press X on your controller. The disc will spin again(it stops when the screen shows the yellow disc). When the disc spins, keep your eyes on your TV screen until you see the yellow disc turn purple and "PS2 DVD-ROM" or similar kind of writing change to "Use Cogswap". 6) When that change happens, swap your original with your backup. Set the write speed to 4X, datatype to PlayStation 2, check "Rectify Sub-Channel Data", then click "Start". 5) You now have the Exploit CD ready. You now need a way to boot it. We'll use CD Loader. Install MAX Media Creator and start it up. Click "Add file", and locate CDLOADER.elf. Click "USB Drives" in "Output Media", select the location of your USB memory stick, and click "Create". 6) Now, it's time to make the save that will be uncrushed through MAX Memory. Open PS2 Save Builder. Click "File", and scroll to "New". With that, click "Edit", "Add Fi le", locate COGSWAP.ELF, and select it. You should now see COGSWAP.ELF as part of the list of files in the save. Now, change the Root/ID to BADATA-SYSTEM for NTSC U/C PlayStation 2s, BEDATA-SYSTEM for PAL, and BIDATA-SYSTEM for NTSC J. Save it as "exploit.max". 7) Plug your USB memory stick in one of your computer's USB ports. Locate "exploit.max",

right click, copy. Browse to your USB memory stick, and paste the file there. 8) Now that you have everything you need, it's time to install the exploit. Tur n on your PlayStation 2 with Action Replay MAX. Once loaded, select "MAX Memory". When that is loaded, go to "My devices", select your Memory Card, and delete "Your System Configuration". When that's done, go back and select your memory stick. Select "NEW_FILE" and uncrush it to your Memory Card. Once that's done, your exploit is installed. 9) Return to Action Replay MAX main menu. This time, choose MAX Media Player(called MAX Media or Media Player) and press X. 10) Once it's loaded, plug in your USB Memory Stick. Wait for CDLOADER.elf to show up(it will sometimes say that there's nothing in the USB Memory Stick. Unplug it and plug it back into another port until you see CDLOADER.elf on the screen) Highlight "Play" and press X. 11) When CD Loader is loaded, the Action Replay MAX disc will stop spinning. Swap it for your Exploit boot disc and press X. If you get a screen that becomes red with a pink border turning to yellow and disappearing, the boot is a sucess, but if the border stays pink, you did something wrong. 12) You should now see LaunchELF's main menu. To assign Cog-Swap to a button, press "Select", press O on the button you wish to use to boot Cog-Swap, press O on mc0(or mc1 if your Memory Card is in slot 2), press O again on "BxDATA-SYSTEM", find COGSWAP.ELF, and select it with O. Return to the main menu, and press the button assigned to Cog-Swap. 14) Here's how to use Cog-Swap: CD-ROM: 1) Swap the uLaunchELF disc with your backup when the Cog-Swap screen loads with a blue disc and the writing "PS2 CD-ROM" or similar underneath. DVD-ROM: 1) Remove the piece you have put over the front lid sensor of your PlayStation 2. The piece

should be over this thing: 2) Insert a high TOC ORIGINAL DVD-ROM game(one that has a silver base) whose size is over 4GB(you have to check on your computer, and you CANNOT use a Dual Layer DVD -ROM game, which are those that are over 4.37GB). 3) Place the piece you removed from the lid sensor shown earlier back where it was. 4) Keep an eye on your screen until a yellow disc shows on the screen with "PS2 DVD -ROM" or something like that under it. 5) Once you see the yellow disc with "PS2 DVD-ROM" or similar, press X on your controller. The disc will spin again(it stops when the screen shows the yellow disc). When the disc spins, keep your eyes on your TV screen until you see the yellow disc turn purple and "PS2 DVD-ROM" or similar kind of writing change to "Use Cogswap". 6) When that change happens, swap your original with your backup. You're using crap media(Memorex and the like). 4) Press select to access the options/config. 5) Scroll down to any button you want. This button will load cogswap.elf from your memory stick when you press it at the main menu. Press O. 6) There should be about 6 or 7 different drives listed here, like both memory cards, etc. Scroll to one that sounds most like your memory stick, mine said "mass" or something like that, it might be that for everyone but idk. Press O. 7) Scroll down and select cogswap.elf and press O. 8) Scroll down to "OK" and press O. 9) Okay, we're down to final step! You should now be back at the main menu. Press the key you assigned to load Cog-Swap. And Voila!!! Cog-Swap will load! Copying game save from PC to PS2 using uLaunchELF by Dan168

This is a tutorial on how to copy game saves to your PS2 memory card using uLaunchELF (required for games like GTA) What you need: - PS2 Save Builder (http://www.ps2savetools.com/download.php?op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=74) - Game saves (I get mine from http://www.gamefaqs.com/) - uLaunchELF (http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=launchers.html) - How to boot uLaunchELF from CD (thanks kiwi1 for the link!) (http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=bootelf.html) I’ll use Gran Turismo 4 (PAL) save as an example here. 1) Use PS2 Save Builder to open the save file you obtained 2) Select all the files on the left hand side of the program, right click and select on “Extract”

3) Create a folder with the same name as the game ID (in this case, it’s the first file in the list, BESCES-51719GAMEDATA (everything after the “B” could be different, depending on the game and which region the game came from, but this file should be really easy to find), then click on OK (the filename will say “not used”, don’t worry about that ) 4) Open the folder you just extracted the files to, if you did it correctly this is what you should see:

5) Copy the FOLDER (not just the files) to your USB flash 6) Load uLaunchELF on your PS2, browse to your USB flash (under mass:/). Locate the folder you just copied, then press R1 and select “Copy” to copy the entire folder 7) Browse to your MC (mc0:/ for the first MC, and mc1:/ for the second MC) and in the base folder press R1 again and select “mcPaste” to paste the entire folder here (do NOT use “Paste”, while it works for most games, some games like GTA, GT4 will only work if you use mcPaste) 8) You should see a folder called "BESCES-51719GAMEDATA" (again, name varies for different games) under mc0:/ (you may need to exit this folder and go back again to see it), and if you go into the "BESCES-51719GAMEDATA" folder, you should see the 4 files in there 9) Reset your PS2 and load the game, the game should now load the game save correctly. You can also reverse this process to copy your game saves from your PS2 MC to your PC Region of the game save: It IS possible to use game saves from different regions, what you need to do is to change this file "BESCES-51719GAMEDATA" (again, going back to my GT4 example) to match with the same game from a different region. Using a different game as example (Kingdom Hearts 2), the Japanese version is "BISLPM-66233-01" and the US version is "BASLUS-21005-07". If you want to use the Japanese save on the US game, you'd need to rename "BISLPM-66233-01" to "BASLUS-21005-07", save this change, then save the whole thing to a folder called "BASLUS-21005-07"

PS2 & Xbox Backup Tutorials & Information By Oner

Okay, these are some methods to backup PS2 titles, in order to play a backup you need a method of booting it by modchip of some sort or by official boot discs such as Swap Magic. I have also included a tutorial on multiple boot methods. Follow any one of these instructions to fit your needs and understand that programs change and methods differ as time goes on so a little tooling around as well as some trial and error may be neccessary. You can tell what format the PS2 title is by looking at the written side of the disc, DVD's are Silver and CD's are Purple. The DVD backup methods here consist of reading the image to the hard drive then burning it to the media for an easier backup, this depends on your PC hardware and its setup. I say that because the proper setup would be to have capable components like enough Ram and a decent CD/DVD Burner; but mainly have the Reader and Writer on separate IDE cables; this allows no cross information when doing Disc to Disc/On the fly copying. But, since most people would not know how to check or fix this, I suggest reading the image to your Hard Drive and then burning from there. *A little useful trick*, if the DVD backup "image" is small enough in size you can fit it onto a CD-R (80 minute or larger if need be) instead of using a more expensive DVD-R. Some titles have DVD checks so it will not work all the time, but it doesn’t hurt to try it on a CD-R and there are patches on the web to fix the ones that might not work. In addition a DVD Movie backup will play on a PS2/Xbox WITHOUT a modchip, this is also the best way to find out if your system likes that particular media. Plus remember this is just a guideline in which to help you get started, so fiddle with settings and options so as you can learn. As I get more info, I will try to keep this tutorial updated. Oner PS1/PS2 CD backup tutorials Using CloneCD (v4.x.xx) for PS1/PS2 1. Start CloneCD 2. Select "Copy CD" 3. Select your Reader, press Next 4. Select "Game CD", press Next 5. Using Alcohol 120% for PS1/PS2 1. Start Alcohol 120% 2. Select “Copy Wizard” 3. Select your Reader & Read Speed 4. Select or Deselect “Copy current disc on the fly” 5. For Data type select which console PS1 or PS2, press Next 6. Select your Image location and Name for it, press Next 7. Select you Writer, Write Speed and anything else you feel you might need 8. Make sure the Data type selected is the same you chose above 9. Press Start to begin PS2 DVD backup tutorials Using Prassi (RecordNow Max is very similar, so this should be sufficient) 1. Start Prassi Primo 2. Select "go to full application" 3. Right Click the drive that has your original in it 4. Select "build global image" and choose a path for the image (preferably on an NTFS operating system) 5. After the image is extracted go to next step 6. Choose the 3rd disc icon from the left *or* click file, new job, Global/Other Image 7. Then just burn the .gi (global image) of the game This next way has one less step which saves some time because once you press record it does everything by itself (if you have a DVD reader and DVD Writer) 1. Start Primo 2. Use the "PrimoDVD Starter" (it's easier, and less confusing) 3. Choose "disc copy" 4. Select your Reader and Also your Writer 5. Select "make a temp image on HD..." 6. Select your burn speed and then record to begin

Using Nero 1. Start Nero, Use the Wizard (for easy use) 2. Select "DVD" then select Next 3. Select "Copy a DVD" then select Next 4. Select your source drive 5. Select or Deselect "copy on the fly" then click next 6. Select your write speed 7. Select either "Test", "Test and Burn" or "Burn" 8. Press "Burn" to begin This next way is without the Wizard 1. PS1 CD backup will now boot PS2 with Neo 2.2 modchip & AR/GS, PS2 CD backup booting 1. Have AR/GS dongle in a memory card slot 2. Power on your PS2 3. Insert AR/GS disc 4. At the AR/GS menu, select Start Game, With/Without codes 5. Eject and swap to your PS2 CD backup and press X. 6. Screen will change and game will now boot *Important* You have to have the correct version of AR/GS in order to boot backups PS2 with Neo 2.2 modchip & AR/GS, PS2 DVD backup booting 1. Insert AR/GS/SM* disc, press Reset 4. At the AR/GS menu, select Start Game, With or Without codes 5. Use Flip Top or Swipe/Slide Card to open PS2 tray 6. Swap/Insert your PS2 CD backup 7. Close Flip Top or use Swipe/Slide Card to close PS2 tray then press X 8. Screen will change and game will now boot * Note - For Swap Magic just insert the CD boot disc, press Reset and when "Insert Disc" is shown on screen proceed from step 5. *Important* You have to have the correct version of AR/GS in order to boot backups PS2 without modchip, Using GS/AR/Swap Magic with Swipe/Slide Card or Flip Top, PS2 DVD backup booting 1. Swipe Card Info & Basic Template The only modification is the front tray cover has to be taken off. On the bottom of the tray (when ejected) remove the little screw and with a quick tug (holding the faceplate on both sides) the cover will pop off. If the little clip(s) break it is okay you can always glue it back on if needed. I made my card out of some spare sheet aluminum but you can use an old credit card, discount card (Petco, GNC, Blockbuster etc.) or something similar. Do not use the picture to "trace" onto a material; it is not to scale! It is just to give you an idea of the shape and look it should be when completed. Use the measurements given to make the card as that is what is accurate for use.

STEP 2 - Format the USB HDD to FAT32 - updated Most USB HDD's are pre-formatted to the MS-DOS Fat32 file system, and this will work just fine. To format this to the FAT32 filesystem, do the following: PC USERS: - open up a MS-DOS prompt window - type the following after the C:\> prompt: > (replace "X:" with your USB drive letter) - FORMAT X: /U /FS:FAT32 [enter] - answer YES to format warning MAC USERS: - open up Disk Utility - unmount the USB drive - click on the USB drive - click ERASE tab at right side on top - under "Volume Format" select MS-DOS file system - click ERASE button at right side on bottom STEP 3a - Copying games to the USB HDD - updated For both PC & MAC users, you will need to do this step via WindowsXP (refer to STEP 1) - connect the USB HDD to your system - insert PS2 game into DVD drive (copy's are fine) - launch USBeXTREME - select drive letter of PS2 game - select if game is CD or DVD - select drive letter of USB drive - type in a title for you game (eg: Hitman) - click copy button Depending on the speed of the drive and size of the game, it may take up to one hour for the game to be copied.

STEP 3b - Alternative copying games to the USB HDD - updated This is a faster method for copying games to a USB HDD, but you need a HDD and a USB enclosure case. - power off computer - connect secondary internal HDD to your system - power on computer - format this secondary HDD to FAT32 filesystem - insert PS2 game into DVD drive (copy's are fine) - launch USBeXTREME - select drive letter of PS2 game - select if game is CD or DVD - select drive letter of the secondary HDD - type in a title for you game (eg: Hitman) - click copy button - once all games are copied to HDD shutdown computer - remove internal secondary HDD - insert secondary HDD to USB enclosurer casing This method is way faster, for a 4.4GB game, it will only take about 7minutes. STEP 4 - Using the USB HDD on your PS2 Slimline - updated You will need to "exploit" your PStwo Slimline so that you can launch a single ELF file called "USBADVN.ELF".

Actually, YES you can launch ELF files via Swap Magic (v3 and higher) These instructions are included when you order Swap Magic (as I have): AUTO-Loading your own programs from USB Mass Storage Devices: - rename the ELF program you want to launch to SWAPMAGIC.ELF - create a folder named SWAPMAGIC in the root directory of your USB mass storage device and then put the SWAPMAGIC.ELF file in that folder - plug in the USB mass storage device into your PS2 - power on your PS2 with your Swap Magic disc - if the program is found in "./SWAPMAGIC/" it will be launched automatically MANUAL-Loading your own programs from USB Mass Storage Devices: - you can have a maximum of 4 files in the "./SWAPMAGIC/" folder at the same time. Here's a guide for some of you people who are sad about not being able to play there PS1

backups on their PS2 with Swapmagic. Also I have seen quite a few threads with people

asking about playing PS1 backups with Swapmagic and the replyer saying you can't.

Items Required:

PS2 Slim (Any Version Will Work)

Magic Switch Pro (Tool E is required,Tool A, and Tool B)

1 PS1 orriginal game disc (Any PS1 orriginal will work)

You PS1 Backup

***You are NOT required to use or have either of the Swap Magic Discs!!!

***You are NOT required to have any type of modchip installed!!!

Ok before we begin make sure that your Magic Switch's are installed properly and working

(Tools E, A, and B)

STEP-1

Budge tool E a little to the right just enough so that when you turn on your PS2 the laser

doesn't move.

STEP-2

While keeping the PS2 lid open turn on your PS2. The laser should not move or activate.

Now open the browser screen on the PS2.

(The Browser Screen is where you can veiw your Memory Cards etc.)

STEP-3

Now insert your PS1 orriginal game into the PS2.

STEP-4

Budge tool E left so that the laser begins moving and becomes active.

(The PS2 will now begin reading the orriginal PS1 game)

STEP-5

Now when you see the PS1 disc on the browser screen don't press it.

Quickly but carefully remove the orriginal PS1 game and insert your PS1 backup. You

should notice that the browser screen still shows the PS1 disc press it and your PS1 backup

should now boot!

I will explain how to do it here in this tutorial. *NOTE* This is the ONLY way to have a hdd on a slim ps2 (that i know of) and it is not really compatable. This guide explains what to do with vegito_93's PlayStation launcher(full credits to him for the app). Here's what to do: 1) First off, you need the following things: -Action Replay MAX(V 3.36 was used) -MAX Media Creator(included with Action Replay MAX) -1 blank CD-R(Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or Sony) -CD Loader ELF(found here: http://www.geocities.com/jjax1975/CDLOADER.zip) -Cog-Swap ELF(found here: http://console.iscentral.net/index.php?go=downloads&cat=6 at the bottom of the page) -PS2 Exploit Utility(found here: http://console.iscentral.net/index.php?go=downloads&cat=5) -WinRAR(to extract the compressed files) -Alcohol 120%(to burn the exploit disc) -USB Memory Stick(to put CD Loader) -PSXLOADER.ELF(vegito_93 has the link in one of his posts) 2) Now that you have all you need, un-zip all the files you downladed with WinRAR and launch PS2 Exploit Utility. 3) Here's what you have to do for each of the tabs: -Title.db: nothing -Loader: nothing(keep uLaunchELF 3.61 selected) -Files: click "Browse for file", locate PSXLOADER.ELF, click it, and click "Add" -IP Options: click "Yes" ONLY if you will use your PlayStation 2 over a network -Region: NTSC for NTSC U/C consoles, PAL for PAL, and JAP for N TSC J -Extras: keep the dummy file the way it is and assign PSX Loader to one of the buttons -Create Exploit: select "CD/HD image (bin/cue)" and select "Live CD" in "Options for CD image" 4) Now that everything is set up, click "Create Exploit!". Set the write speed to 4X, datatype to PlayStation 2, check "Rectify Sub-Channel Data", then click "Start". 6) You now have the Exploit CD ready. You now need a way to boot it. We'll use CD Loader. Install MAX Media Creator and start it up. Click "Add file", and locate CDLOADER.elf. Click "USB Drives" in "Output Media", select the location of your USB memory stick, and click "Create".

7) You now have CD Loader and your Exploit disc. Put Action Replay MAX in your PlayStation 2 and power it on. When it's loaded, look for MAX Media Player(called MAX Media or Media Player), select it and press X. 8) Once it's loaded, plug in your USB Memory Stick. CDLOADER.elf should be displayed on the top right of the screen. Highlight "Play" and press X. 9) When CD Loader is loaded, swap it for your Exploit boot disc and press X. If you get a screen that becomes red with a pink border turning to yellow and disappearing, the boot is a sucess, but if the border stays pink, you did something wrong. 10) You should now see LaunchELF's main menu. If you get an error message while trying to boot PSX Loader, press "Select", locate the button you assigned PSX Loader to, press O, press O on Cdfs, press O again on "BxDATA", find PSXLOADER.ELF, and select it with O. Return to the main menu, and press the button assigned to PSX Loader. 11) Follow the on-screen instruction from here-on in. There you have it, a way to boot PlayStation backups on your PlayStation 2. REMINDER: THIS WILL ONLY WORK ON CONSOLES VERSION 9-15. REMINDER 2: You need a flip-top lid or slide card for Versions 9-11 and a flip-top lid or lid sensor MOD for Versions 12-15

The Cardboard and Straw MOD, a free alternative for modding a Version 13/14 PlayStation 2 for use with Swap Magic/Breaker Pro By Ace_2

Wanna MOD your Version 13 or 14 PlayStation 2? Don't want a chip? Don't want to use a MOD that will void your warranty? Want a free alternative to what's being sold on modchip websites? I've got the MOD that will do you all that. To start, cut out a small square of cardboard(cereal box type), and shape it like MagicKeys II tool 1. This will need to be taped to the PlayStation 2's front lid sensor. It should look like this:

Second, cut a strip of cardboard that is slightly narrower than the disk break. Move the break with a pen, and tape the strip under where the discs go(it has to go next to the break). Basically, it's the same location as MagicKeys 2 Tool 2. Remember, don't put tape near the area of the laser. It should look like this:

Last, and this is the hardest part of the MOD, cut off about 1/4 of a straw. Cut it in half lengthwise(bending it at an end) so that you have less problems to get the straw in the gap that's in between the metalic plates and lid hinge(pictures: straw:

Stick the straw there, putting it in very slowly. You might want to turn on your console while doing that. Look at the laser as you stick the straw in. Get some tape ready. Once you see that the laser moves to the spindle and flashes, fix the straw so that it never moves out of place(the laser will stay where it is) and tape it with as many layers of tape as you need. It should look like this:

To get the straw squarely on the switch is a pain in the neck. It took me 5 tries to get the straw on the sensor.

There! You're ready to use Swap Magic or any other swap method on your Version 13/14 slim PlayStation 2.

About a month ago i bought a Swap Magic,Flip Top, and a Breaker Pro...And i Had So

MANY PROBLEMS...but i managed to get everything to work...so i wrote this guide here to

help other people therefore they wont have as many problems as i had.

Swap Magic.

Swap Magic is a CD Based Modchip for the PS2 that can boot PS2 and PSX(PS1) Backups.

Q.)Swap Magic doesnt boot backups but my ps2 loads ps2 originals.

A.)1. When you insert the backup useing the Flip Top cover make sure the disc is properly

inserted correctly and not just inserted half way.

2. Make sure the Backup Disc is clean.

4. Your Lens May Need Reapir,Refer to Lens Repair Section.

Q.)Swap Magic DVD Disc Wont Boot my DVD Backup.

A.)1.Swap Magic DVD does not work so well for some games,instead of useing the Swap

Magic DVD disc just use the CD instead, It Works bettter.

To use the Swap Magic CD to boot DVD Games Do the Following:

1.Eject the CD tray and insert the Swap Magic CD Disc.

2.Reset your PS2 and wait till Swap Magic loads Up

3.When you see the Swap Magic Screen that saids "Load Game" along with the video

settings(Pal or NTSC) eject the PS2 cd tray and take out the Swap Magic CD and and the

screen will now say Refresh TOC

4.Now insert a PS2 DVD Original Game(Silver Bottom) With a High TOC(check your ps2

games on the computer and see which is the biggest game you have in size)

4.after it goes back to the Swap Magic Screen Open the PS2 Flip Top Cover and insert the

DVD Backup, After This The screen should turn red and the game will start.

Swap Magic Wont Load My Backup Game

A.)1.If your game does not load your game may have burned wrong. When you burn a game

always burn it at the lowest speed possible.if your game still doesnt load try using a better

type of media.

Note:if you are using DVD+R Media try useing DVD-R Media instead because some PS2

Versions do not read DVD+R.If it is a CD Game(under 700MB) burn it useing 8X useing

DAO Mode.(Disc At Once)

2.Still Doesnt Load? your game may need a CD Loader to load up the game.to get a cd loader

go to www.swapmagicfix.com. after it has downloaded extract the CD Loader to a folder.

after the files extract burn the file to a disc use a image burn.DO NOT BURN IMAGE TO A

CD USEING A DATA CD BURN.you have to burn the file to a cd useing a image burn

because this file is a cd that is compressed into a file.when it is burned it is decompressed and

made into a cd.

4.If The game you are trying to burn is a DVD Rip you will need to buy a Breaker Pro CD to

make this game work.

5.If this game was downloaded from the internet it may be a bad Copy...DO NOT

DOWNLOAD Games From The Internet For the Following Reasons.

1.It Is ILLEGAL to download games of the internet.

2.They are not always gauranteed to work.

3.They are most likely to end up as another game than the one it saids it is.

Q.)My Swap Magic CD Or DVD Disc Wont Read AT ALL!

A.)1. try loading it on someone elses PS2,if it still doesnt work you may have a defected

Swap Magic Disc. Contact The company in which you purchased your Swap Discs for a

Exchange.

Breaker Pro

Breaker Pro is for PS2 and PS1 and is used to boot PS1 Imports Or Backups.It Can also be

used to load DVDRips with Swap Magic.

To Boot DVD Rips Do the Following:

1.Insert Swap Magic CD,Reset PS2.

2.After The Swap Magic Screen Loads Up EJECT The PS2 CD Tray And The Screen Will

Now Say Refresh TOC

3.Now Insert Your Breaker Pro CD and wait a while.

4.The Swap Magic Screen Will Now Come Back And It Will Say "Not A Valid Game" Or

something simular at the bottom of the screen, dont worry cause that is normal and is

supposed to happen.

5.Now Using The Flip Top Cover, Swap The Breaker Pro With Your DVDRip and press X,

now the game should boot.

To boot PSX(PS1) Backups and imports do the following.

1.Insert the Break Pro CD Using The PS2 CD Tray.

2. reset The PS2 And wait till the Breaker Pro Shows a blue Screen With Selections On It.

3.Now Swap The Breaker Pro CD With Your PSX(PS1) Backup useing a The Flip Top

Cover,Now Press X And the Game Should Load Good.

If Your Breaker Pro CD Does Not Load Up Refer To Lens Repair Section.

If your PS2 is still haveing problems reading PS2 Originals or backups after cleaning the lens

and keep getting the "Disc Read Error" Message, then this is your answer, these are simple

itructions on how to fix your PS2 to read better,this is good because is saves you money on

haveing to buy a New PS2 Lens which is somewhere around $100.

Flip Top Users:

1.Turn On Your PS2.

2.Eject The PS2 Tray And Turn Off Your PS2.

3.Open The PS2 Flip Top Cover Adn You Should be able to see the lens and everything

around it.

4.look for a little white round dial that may be partially covered,

5.after you have located this dial Mark where it is set at with a marker or pencil.

6. Now keep turn the dial counter clockwise until it the Ps2 lens drops(you will see the lens

module go down).Now turn on your ps2 and insert the ps2 game that used to say "Disc Read

Error",does the game load? if it does then you are done. If it does not load then you need to

turn the dial some more.keep turning the little dial and checking if the cd reads. it may take a

while to find the spot on the dial so that it can read properly, but it is worth the time since it

saves you money on buying a new PS2 Lens.

NON SWAP MAGIC USERS

1.Unplug all wires atached to the ps2 system

2.Turn your PS2 upside down.

3.Remove all screw covers on the bottom of your PS2.

4.Remove all 8 or 10 screws with a phillips screw driver(remember where the long and small

screws belong,mark them somehow if that helps to remember where they belong)

5.remove the top cover of the PS2.

6.Now you will see the ps2 drive(black with a white circle in the middle)now remove the lens

cover plate(it is black and has a total of 6 screws).

7.Turn On Your PS2.

8.Eject The PS2 Tray And Turn Off Your PS2.

9.Now You Should be able to see the lens and everything around it.

10.look for a little white round dial that may be partially covered.

11.after you have located this dial Mark where it is set at with a marker or pencil.

12. Now keep turn the dial counter clockwise until it the Ps2 lens drops(you will see the black

lens module go down).Now turn on your ps2 and insert the ps2 game that used to say "Disc

Read Error",does the game load? if it does then you are done. If it does not load then you

need to turn the dial some more.keep turning the little dial and checking if the cd reads. it

may take a while to find the spot on the dial so that it can read properly, but it is worth the

time since it saves you money on buying a new PS2 Lens.

Hopefully this will help alot of people from going through all the trouble that i gone through

with my PS2 and the swap magic discs.This Took a long time to write and hopefully it'll

prevent people from haveing as many problems as i had,

How to copy games and how to use Swap Magic For Dummies! By IcePeten

Welcome to my easy to use guide! With pictures for you non-reader lazy type. Updates: 12/07/06: Added new guide to help people who don't know how to backup their games. 2 Guides! 1.) How to copy your games. 2.) How to use swap magic. How to copy one of your ps2 games! Ok, this portion of the guide is how to get that sexy ISO image from your playstation 2 games. Part 1: Copying your games. In this guide, I'm using what I use... DVD Decrypter! First you download it From here and install it yada yada. After it's done, open the program. You should see a screen like this.

When this pops up, pop in your playstation 2 game you wish to back up and wait for it to load. After it loads, go to the top and hit Mode > Iso > Read

After you hit it, the bottom icon should show.

Click on it and it will start reading your game. Go take a shower and then play some game until it's done. After, I think It will make a sound. Not sure cause I'm in school right now making this guide updated... I'll check when I get home. Just check it once in a while.

Part 2 Burning the games onto DVD's. After it's done, take out your game and insert your blank DVD. Then go to Mode > Iso > Write.

Click on the folder on the top under the Source.

Browse for your file. Most likely, your ISO will be on the root of your hard drive (Start > My Computer > Local Disk C) After selecting the ISO... Click on this icon

And let it burn! How to use swap magic Well, to start things off, you're going to obviously need Swap Magic. For those who do not know what swap magic is, I'll explain. Swap magic is a disk that acts almost like a mod chip for the Playstation 2, but without having to put a mod chip in! The swap magic disk should look similar to this.

"How can I get this magical disk?!" Just google Swap Magic and find it, cause I don't think advertising is allowed.

Anyway, back to the guide. To get things started, you're going to have to remove the front cover of your PS2 disk tray, so it will look like this.

It's alot easier if you just break it off... Anywho, next you'll need to open your disk tray and insert the swap magic disk. :D

Next you'll have to wait for it to boot. You'll soon see the Playstation 2 logo come up, and soon after that, you'll see this. (Unless you have an older version.)

You must wait till you get to the menu. It looks kinda like this.

That's when the fun begins. :D

You'll have to use the claw (slide card) looking thing that you got with your package. You need this. It looks like this.

Well, you have to insert it in the SECOND line in the disk tray. Don't understand where? Here ya go.

After it's inserted, you'll have to slide it to the right, unlocking the tray.

And pull it out.

Then take out the Coder disk (Swap Magic) and insert your game. Important!: Make sure you're using the correct disk for the game you choose. For example, you know how you got 2 disks in that package? Well, they ARE DIFFERENT. One's for CD's and one's for DVD's. In this guide, i'm using a DVD game, so I'm going ot use the DVD disk for my game called Black. If you do not know what disk it is, if you look on the left side of the disk, it'll tell you.

DO NOT PRESS THE EJECT BUTTON! You must manually push it in slowly. When it goes in, you have to lock it back up. You have to put the claw thing back into the right part of the ps2 disk tray, and lock it by going left.

After it's locked, get your controller ready and prepare for game time, but not quite just yet. You'll see at the swap magic boot screen, a few options. Go to the one all the way to the left. It should say Normal. Click "x". Depending on what type of game it is (PAL, Default, or NTSC) You'll have to pick the one the game is. For my game, Black, it's default. Hit "x" and wait. You'll see a blank screen for about 5 seconds or so. (If it takes over 15 seconds, start over.) Then your game will boot and you can throw a party! :D

Front Cover Removal

In order to make the Slide-Tool workable, please remove the front cover of the cd/dvd drive

firstly. There is no need to open the console because

it is "clipped" on from the outside.

Step 1 - Remove Screw 1. Turn on your PlayStation2 and press the eject button, then the tray

comes out.

2. Let the tray stay out, and turn OFF the power on the backside of your PlayStation2 (rocker

switch). This would make the console without power and keep the tray still out.

3. Turn around the console, and put it onto a table with good light for work.

4. Now, you can unscrew / remove the tiny screw on the back of the tray.( There is no screw

for SCPH-5000X, pls go to step 2 ) If you feel it is stuck really tight, it should not be a

problem. Get a good screwdriver.

Step 2 - Remove Cover 1. Use the smallest screwdriver you can find, or get a pin. The cover is "clipped" on in r ight

and left side of the tray. Please be carefully!! The clips on the tray holding the cover can be

broken easily. You just have to expand is about 0.5 millimeters in each side at a time, so that

it comes right off.

2. When you see / find the clips, put the screwdriver or pin down and twist a little -- while

pulling gently in the cover. It comes off. Hints: If you are worried about it, you can heat up

the plastic materials a little using a blow dryer so it will become more flexible. If it broke up,

don't be frustrated - a little super glue can turn around the situation.

Step 3 - Replace Screw ( This step is not necessary for SCPH-5000X )

1. It's time to replace the screw you removed before. Easily, reinstall it.

2. Now, the Slide-Tool is ready for use.

3. You will find the Front Cover can be reattached easily whenever you want!

This instruction guide assumes that the Front Cover of your Playstation2 has been removed

already. Now, you can follow this instruction guide step by step and play your backups in no

time afterwards!

Usage Instruction

Step 1 - Start Swap Magic 1. Turn on the PlayStation2, and then insert Swap Magic Bootdisc CD or DVD version in

accordance with what type of backup you are about to play. Please wait for the screen to

show "Insert Disc".

Step 2 - Slide Tray Open 1. Insert the Slide-Tool UNDER the tray on the LEFT side. To make go in smooth, leave

about 2cm gap on the far left.

2. Slide your Tool gently to the RIGHT keeping a firm grip. You will feel a little resistance,

don't worry, keep sliding and the tray will come out

a little automatically.

3. Now, it is ready to be pulled fully out. Pull it out all the way gently.

Step 3 - Swap Discs & Close 1. Remove the Swap Magic Boot Disc, and insert your backup disc.

2. Push the tray all the way back in. To make it slide easier, you can do this on the left side of

the tray.

Step 4 - Slide Back 1. Now, it is time to make the final Slide!! Insert the Slide-Tool to the left same as Step 2.1.

2. Gently slide the Slide-Tool all the way to the RIGHT again. Please note - when the tray

comes out a little automatically - release the pressure on the Slide-Tool and continue to Slide

the Tool to the far right. (It moves around a little bump and grabs like a hook.)

3. Make sure the Slide-Tool is fully to the right and inserted properly.

4. Now, slide the Tool gently all the way to the LEFT - the tray will be closed completely.

Then, you can take out the Slide-Tool.

5. Press X on joypad - and you are playing your backup.
