What is offered?
• All NU students on UG and PGT degrees• Some places available for Research students• Staff not currently eligible
Who is it for?
• A range of free 10-credit, one-semester modules in…• Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and
Spanish• Classes take place between 5 and 7pm on weekdays and Wed afternoons.• Levels offered in 2015-16: Beginners to Upper intermediate (not available on
all modules)• Only available as supernumerary modules (i.e. in excess of 120 credits)• Participation at the discretion of home school/department

How are the modules structured?
• 2+ weekly contact hours:• A 2-hour language class• An optional 1-hour Guided Independent Learning surgery
• A blended approach to learning:• Interactive language seminars• Access to Rosetta Stone Advantage®, a state of the art
language learning software• Dedicated support from trained language learning
advisors• An award-winning Language Resource Centre (LRC)

How to Apply?
• Modules are capped so places are not guaranteed• Check with your School/DPD that you are eligible• Go to http://www.ncl.ac.uk/uwlp • Read the Student Handbook• If necessary, assess your language level for free here • When ready, fill in the application form • You can express up to three preferences• If successful, your place will be confirmed at the start of
the academic year• Unsuccessful candidates will be placed on a waiting list
and notified if/when a place becomes available
