Linuron Weed Control Systems in Sweetpotato. Mark W. Shankle, Stephen L. Meyers, and Trevor F. The experimental design was a randomized complete block (RCB) with 4 replications. Plots were 10 x 30 ft with three 40-inch rows. Beauregard B-14 sweetpotato slips were transplanted on June 30, 2014 along with pre-transplant (PREP) and post-transplant (POSTP) treatments. Lay-by (LB) treatments were applied on July 23, 2014 as cultivation fb herbicide over-the-top. Treatments included linuron 1.5 or 2.0 pt/ac applied PREP and POSTP, Valor 2 oz/ac PREP + Command 2.67 pt/ac POSTP f/b cultivation + Dual Mag 0.8pt/ac LB, Command 2.67 pt/ac POSTP fb cultivation + linuron 1.5 pt/ac LB, Command 2.67 pt/ac POSTP fb cultivation + linuron 2.0 pt/ac LB, and an untreated weedy check. A weed-free treatment was included, but yield was lower than all other treatments due to routine foot-traffic in plots to manually remove weeds. Therefore, the weed-free was not included due false negative data. Ratings were made at 2 and 4 weeks after planting (WAP) and pre-harvest for crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis) and slender pigweed (Amaranthus hybridus) control, as well as crop tolerance (injury). Sweetpotatoes were harvested on October 24, 2014 at 116 days after transplant and graded to determine US No.1, Canner, Cull, and Jumbo yield grades. Total marketable yield was recorded as the sum of US No.1, Canner, and Jumbo grade yields. Analysis of variance was conducted using Fisher's protected LSD (a=0.05) Sweetpotato injury was less than 8% for all treatments at 2 WAP. The highest injury at 2 WAP for treatments of linuron was 5% with linuron 1.5 pt/ac POSTP. No injury was observed for any treatment at 4 WAP or pre-harvest.
