II.A.4 Graduate profile

The MA studies of Sociology prepare not only to fulfill various professional roles but also shape the basis for further intellectual development of the graduates. Their special value aims at preparing the graduates to design research, create projects and repair programmes, work on development strategies of local, regional and central institutions, and solve specific social problems. This practical and empirical independence is possible due to the ability to combine theoretical knowledge with practice. The graduates can design and conduct empirical research on their own, on the basis of qualitative and quantitative analyses, adjusting specific methods and research techniques to the problems, as well as explain social mechanisms referring to particular theoretical models. In result they are equipped in social problems solving skills and can explain regional and global phenomena in reference to specific trends of the modern world. The MA course syllabus takes into consideration specificity of the Lubuski region and its proximity to the border line, German and other European Union countries neighbourhood. In consequence, the graduates gain the knowledge of various phenomena concerning the cultural diffusion and its social and cultural effects.

As a result, the graduates of Sociology of the University of Zielona Góra are qualified to fulfill not only the role of social life practitioner but also researcher and can apply for PhD courses.

Possible employment : The graduates are qualified to work: 1) in government and local government institutions, 2) in labour market institutions, 3) in non-government organizations, 4) in counselling and consulting agencies, 5) in poll and market research centres, 6) as marketing, social relation, human resources, social welfare and prevention experts 7) in research institutions, 8) in agencies diagnosing and designing social changes.

At the end of each course students get final course grades. In some cases, for example courses run as monographic lectures, students complete the course without being given the final grade. The courses in which students are obliged to get the final course grade or take the final examination are listed in the tables. Examinations can be written or oral.
