The Concise Illustrated Dictionary of Biocontrol Terms includes basic terminology related to the biological control of pests, together with state-of-the-art scientific and practical terms, for expedient comprehension and analysis of present, forecasted or in situ pest management problems. In addition, it also provides the names of the most common pesticides, parasitoids, and predators commercially available in different continents (Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa), as well as target pests and diseases of these agents, making it a tangible tool for prompt management actions. The work is copiously illustrated with original pictures clarifying the most commonly used terms and the identity of organisms in biocontrol technology, with content that is both scientifically rigorous and clear.
The biological control of pests using living organisms, or products from their activities, is an independent branch of science based on multiple disciplines including general biology, zoology, entomology, phytopathology, microbiology, and others. As a result, the field of biological control has its own specific terminology that needs to be understood and applied correctly across this variety of disciplines, including among those approaching the field from a different area of expertise and who may have difficulty understanding the terms used by experts in the field.
This compact illustrated guide will appeal to the scientific community working in integrated pest management disciplines, as well as those researching, studying, and working with interest in protecting natural resources at a global, local, and individual level, in a variety of locations including the lab, garden, field, or forest.

Epilepsy is due to abnormal signaling of neurons in the brain that can cause seizures. It is a common condition, affecting at least 3% of indi-
viduals at some point during their life. The seizures are difficult to predict and, in a significant fraction of patients, refractory to current medical interventions.
Written and edited by experts in the field, this collection from Cold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Medicine includes contributions covering all as-pects of epilepsy, its causes, pathophysiology, clinical characteristics, co-morbidities, and treatment. Contributors discuss the genetic, developmen-tal, and environmental triggers of recurrent seizures; molecular changes (e.g., epigenetic modifications) that are associated with epileptogenesis; and the aberrant ion channels and neuronal networks involved. Clini-cal aspects of the disease (diagnosis, classification, and treatments) are reviewed, as are common comorbidities (e.g., depression and cognitive disorders). Recent advances in drug development and surgical techniques aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality of patients with epilepsy are also described.
The authors highlight current challenges in the field of epilepsy, with the goal of assisting others in formulating relevant research questions. This volume is therefore a vital reference not only for scientists and clinicians currently working in the field, but for all neuroscientists seeking to ex-plore new research directions.

“Joseph Acquisto is a leader in the new generation of interpreters for whom poetry and philosophy, together, provide foundational ethical and religious insights both beyond and against traditional theology or faith. Baudelaire’s recognition of impossible redemption is the germinal insight. Surpassing Walter Benjamin’s doxa of modernity and Paul de Man’s deconstruction, Acquisto lucidly applies Benjamin Fondane’s interpretation of Baudelaire’s abyss and post-theological reflections of Giorgio Agamben, Jean-Luc Nancy, and others, to map out positive meaning that can be achieved by facing despair, beyond nihilism, as exemplified by Emil Cioran. Acquisto provides compelling insights into esthetics and ethics, despair and transcendence, nihilism and survival. Original and truly interdisciplinary.”
- Edward K. Kaplan, Kevy and Hortense Kaiserman Professor in the Humanities, Brandeis University, USA, and author of Baudelaire’s Prose Poems and Spiritual Radical
Joseph Acquisto examines literary writers and critical theorists who employ theological frameworks, but who divorce those frameworks from questions of belief and thereby remove the doctrine of salvation from their considerations. Acquisto claims that Baudelaire inaugurates a new kind of amodern modernity by canceling the notion of salvation in his writing while also refusing to embrace any of its secular equivalents, such as historical progress or redemption through art.
Through a series of “interhistorical” readings that put Baudelaire into dialogue with literary and critical writers from the last 150 years, Acquisto highlights the way both literary and critical approaches attempt to articulate a third option between theism and atheism that also steers clear of political utopianism and Nietzschean estheticism. In the concluding section, Acquisto expands metaphysical and esthetic concerns to account also for the ethics inherent in the refusal of the logic of salvation, an ethics which emerges from, rather than seeking to redeem or cancel, a certain kind of nihilism.
Joseph Acquisto is Professor of French at the University of Vermont, USA. He is the author of Crusoes and Other Castaways in Modern French Literature (2012)and French Symbolist Poetry and the Idea of Music (2006) and the editor of Thinking Poetry: Philosophical Approaches to Nineteenth-Century French Poetry (2013).

distills complex principles essential to today’s nursing practice into a concise, easy-to-read format
the complexities of health care finance, economics, and policy today are inextricably intertwined with traditional nursing practice. This undergraduate nursing text distills these challenging topics into an
engaging, easy-to-read format that facilitates ready application to any practice setting. Written specifically for RN to BSN and second-degree nursing programs, the book is the only such text grounded in nurses’ own understanding and experience. Concise and practical, it supports foundational concepts with real-life case studies and clinical applications and reinforces information with interactive quizzes and multimedia materials. The book’s content fulfills one of the AACN’s key Essentials of Baccalaureate Education. Written by a health economics and policy expert, former dean, and award-winning teacher, the text synthesizes the vast scope of health economics to create an easily understandable guide for nursing action from bedside to boardroom.
The text describes the relationship between nursing and health care economics, and traces the history of our health care system from the early 1900s through today. It contrasts the economics of health care with that of classic free markets, and discusses the intersection of ethics and economics—providing nurses with the ethical tools to thoughtfully consider dilemmas arising from today’s focus on the bottom line. The book describes how to use economic principles to shape organizations and public policy, and includes a step-by-step, skill-building guide to enhancing professional influence through participation on governing boards. Complex financial principles are broken down to facilitate understanding for nurses with no prior knowledge of this discipline. The book also includes relevant information on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and is compatible with online teaching and course work. Faculty resources include PowerPoint slides, a test bank, comprehensive review questions, and sample syllabi.
Key Features:• Fulfills one of the key Essentials of Baccalaureate Education• Addresses the specific needs of RN to BSN courses with a concise, easy-to-read format• Illuminates complex principles with specific, engaging case examples relevant to nursing practice• Authored by a leading nurse expert, health policy leader, former dean, and award-winning teacher• Guides readers in using economic principles to shape organizations and public policy

Making and Moving Sculpture in Early Modern Italy Edited by Kelley Helmstutler Di Dio, The University of Vermont
VISUAL CULTURE IN EARLY MODERNITY
‘ The book takes up two topics that are almost never considered together – how sculpture is
made, and then, how it gets to its destination. The geographical sweep is refreshingly broad,
up and down the Italian peninsula and westward into France and Spain. The well-written
essays by notable scholars cover a range of media and types of commissions, from
Donatello’s sculpture for the High Altar in the Santo in Padua to Bernini’s work in the San
Pietro fabbrica. The wealth of material presented here sheds light on important sculptural
works about which we may have thought nothing new could be said.’
Debra Pincus
In recent years, art historians have begun to delve into the
patronage, production and reception of sculptures-sculptors’
workshop practices; practical, aesthetic, and esoteric considerations
of material and materiality; and the meanings associated with
materials and the makers of sculptures. This volume brings
together some of the top scholars in the fi eld, to investigate how
sculptors in early modern Italy confronted such challenges as
procurement of materials, their costs, shipping and transportation
issues, and technical problems of materials, along with the
meanings of the usage, hierarchies of materials, and processes of
material acquisition and production. Contributors also explore the
implications of these facets in terms of the intended and perceived
meaning(s) for the viewer, patron, and/or artist. A highlight of the
collection is the epilogue, an interview with a contemporary artist
of large-scale stone sculpture, which reveals the similar challenges
sculptors still encounter today as they procure, manufacture and
transport their works.

While the term “public intellectual” has been used to describe scholars who seek to share their research with the public, little work has been done to examine the role of a public intellectual in the field of education. This book builds upon the notion of the public intellectual in a way that makes the term more accessible, using it to refer to education scholars who seek to share their research outside of academia. Media coverage of educational issues is rife with self-appointed experts on education who have claimed space in public discussions to define educational problems and dominate public dialogues on education. But where are the education researchers in these academic dialogues? This book addresses their absence, sharing the stories of scholars who are seeking to enter public dialogues and reclaim space for reasoned dialogue on education. The stories of public scholars highlighted here acknowledge that the policymaking arena is rife with value conflicts that can lead to dismissing or ignoring research if it does not fit with political agendas.
“In this important new book Cynthia Gerstl-Pepin and Cynthia Reyes make a clear and compelling case for socially and politically engaged scholarship that moves beyond the tidy boundaries of academia to confront critical issues related to equity and justice. At a time when inequality is growing and policymakers are more paralyzed than ever in devising solutions to the pressing problems that plague our society, such scholarship is needed now more than ever. For scholars who are more concerned about making a difference than protecting their jobs, this book will be an inspiration.”—PEDRO A. NOGUERA, Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education and Executive Director, Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools, New York University
“The lament of the academic is over! Gerstl-Pepin and Reyes have pushed us beyond critique and into new forms of engagement with this book. The chapters inspire me and all intellectuals to be citizens first. Knowledge in this is a tool of participation in civic life.”—GEORGE W. NOBLIT, Joseph R. Neikirk Distinguished Professor of Sociology of Education, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
“...Along with the authors in the book, Gerstl-Pepin and Reyes urge academics to step out of their comfort zone, away from their intellectual jargon and contribute to the issues facing society, especially those in the realm of education. Their book not only gives an intellectual rationale for this approach but it contains many examples of how to make research relevant. Given the messy situation that public education in the United States finds itself in, this book is much-needed and vital.”—MARYBETH GASMAN, Professor of Higher Education and Director, Penn Center for Minority-Serving Institutions, University of Pennsylvania
CYNTHIA GERSTL-PEPIN, Professor of Educational Leadership and Foundations at the University of Vermont, re-ceived her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She served as a Fulbright Scholar to China, co- edited Survival of the Fittest: The Shifting Contours of Higher Education in China and the United States, co-authored Reframing Educational Politics for Social Justice, co-edited Social Justice Leadership for a Global World, and has been published in numerous journals.
CYNTHIA REYES is Associate Professor of Middle Level Education and Literacy Education at the University of Ver-mont. She received her doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has published articles in various research journals including Educational Foundations and Research in the Teaching of English. Her research interests include digital literacy with English language learners, multilingual education and language policy, and narrative research.
