UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE GARDEN/VISITS Group – Meeting held on 11 th September 2013 Sandra opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. In all 41 attended. Clare Selwood was welcomed as our speaker. Clare is studying at Brackenhurst College for a BETEC in Horticulture. She delivered a most interesting talk about her studies and the opportunities it has presented – including helping to build and create a garden at the Chelsea Flower Show and to design and build a garden in a roundabout at Arnold. We all thoroughly enjoyed the talk and wish her well. We also hope she will tell us about her 2 nd year studies next year! A big thank you to Clare and her Mum – Garden Club member Barbara Selwood. Reports since our last meeting 18 th August – a number of members enjoyed ‘Summer at its Best’ at the University Campus Gardens 24 th/27th August – Both The Cottage and Old Sawley Church Flower Festival were excellent and members really enjoyed their visits. 8 th September - another exceptional trip to Renishaw Hall gardens. Members were able to see both the hall and gardens. Thoroughly recommended for next year. - Sculpture exhibition at Reg Taylor’s Garden Centre Southwell -. several members had visited this exhibition and found the structures most interesting.

UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE

GARDEN/VISITS Group – Meeting held on 11th September 2013

Sandra opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. In all 41 attended. Clare Selwood was welcomed as our speaker. Clare is studying at Brackenhurst College for a BETEC in Horticulture. Next year: Visit to Highgrove – Vivienne is organising this. She has applied for tickets and these will be allocated in the New Year. There will be a very quick turnaround so she suggested folk give us a cheque for £22 date to be open. This will not be cashed until folk have confirmed they can go on the date we are allocated. i.e. – it will be returnable. The cost of the coach will be calculated nearer the time. Cottesbrooke Hall – Glenis and Janice are organising this for next June – date to be confirmed. There is a plant fair and workshops as well as beautiful gardens and an interesting house to visit. Short break to Northumberland Gardens – Liz and Sandra are looking at this. A 2 night break at end of June – visiting Wallington Gardens, Alnwick and Belsay. More details at next meeting. NEW GROUP – Practical Gardening. This group will now meet on 3rd Monday of the month in the Wesley room.
