What is University of Scouting?

The university of Scouting is a one-day leader training program designed to provide ideas and resources in subject area to

benefit your Pack, Troop, or Crew. The fall Commissioner College is part of University of Scouting as well. New in 2015, Merit

Badge classes will be offered, in the afternoon, for Boy Scouts.

Who should attend?

All adult Scouting volunteers including Unit, District, and Council volunteers and of course parents. Boy Scouts and

Venturers are also invited to attend. There are no classes available for Cub Scouts.

When and Where?

The University will be held on Saturday October 10, 2015 at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS. Check-in will open at

8:00 AM in the Memorial Union. Opening ceremony will be held in the Black and Gold room.

How much and how do I register?

The cost of University of Scouting is $29. Registration after September 25th is $39. Registration fees include lunch,

overnight camping, and event patch. To register visit the Coronado Area Council website at www.coronadoscout.org and complete

the online registration. If you are unable to complete the online registration submit the attached registration form to Coronado

Area Council, Attn: University of Scouting, PO Box 912, Salina, KS 67402 with appropriate fees.

Are there overnight accommodations if we are travelling a long distance?

Overnight camping is available on the grounds of Fort Hays State. You will indicate if your unit is camping during event

registration either online or on the paper form.

What should I wear?

The University of Scouting is a full uniform event. Participants should wear their Scouting uniform.

What should I bring?

A desire to learn about and discuss Scouting topics not covered during basic Scouting training. You may also want a

notebook and pen for notes and a water bottle or coffee mug. You might also want to bring spending money as a Trading Post will

be available that will have Scouting materials and reference books that may be featured in the classes you take.

Is lunch provided?

Yes, lunch is provided and will be served in the Black and Gold room in the Memorial Union.

Is there a patch?

Of course there is! After the last class period complete and turn in your University of

Scouting Evaluation to receive your event patch.

Are there t-shirts?

Yes! This year there will be a University of Scouting T-shirt. They are available for

pre-order for $10 until September 16th. All pre-orders will be available for pickup during

check-in. Only a very limited number of shirts will be available on site in the Trading Post.

How to register for University of Scouting

1. Review the entire class catalog to check out all the classes you may be interested in taking.

2. Note the classes you are interested in and what session or sessions they are being taught.

3. Complete the online registration process available at www.coronadoscut.org. Register on or before

4. Make your class selections early. Class sizes are limited. Online registration is your best option to get

into the classes you want. Paper registrations will be entered as they are received. Please indicate a

second and third choice of classes on the paper registration form. Some classes cover more than one

period so plan accordingly.

5. Encourage your fellow leaders or other unit parents to attend University of Scouting. Why not host a full

car pool?
