External CPR Education Officer External CPR Education Officer Application 2016-2017 The External CPR Education Officer will be a vital asset to the Illini EMS Education Department by acting as the primary organizer of AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid classes. The aim of offering these AHA Heartsaver courses is to promote quality, non- healthcare provider CPR/AED and First Aid education to outside departments (e.g., Campus Recreation staff, U of I organizations, etc.) and community members. All applicants must hold a current and valid American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR card throughout the 2016-17 academic year. 2.) All applicants must hold a current and valid State of Illinois EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, or EMT-Paramedic license by the start of the fall 2016 semester. 3.) All applicants must complete AHA BLS instructor training guidelines and maintain all licensing (BLS Instructor, CPR, EMT- B) while under contract with Illini Emergency Medical Services. The External CPR Education Officer will be a vital asset to the Illini EMS Education Department by acting as the primary organizer of AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid classes. evaluations Ensure there is an adequate number of copies of all necessary paperwork for the class Maintain and organize equipment, and report damage of equipment to the Director of Ed Ensure sanitation of mannequins and other CPR equipment Identify financial opportunities for Heartsaver CPR education All other responsibilities associated with holding an Officer Corps position, including but

not limited to: staffing two office hours weekly, attending all Officer Corps meetings (once every 3 weeks), attending general meetings, and attending education department meetings as necessary

CPR-Instructor Responsibilities CPR Instructors ensure proper instruction of American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider (HCP), AHA Heartsaver CPR and First Aid (FA) courses for all IEMS members, IEMS clients, and outreach groups that may require CPR or FA certification. Heartsaver classes will take place on Monday and Wednesday from 6-10 PM and Sunday from 12-4 PM.

TrainingIf accepted and still in need of BLS Instructor training, the External CPR Education Officer will be required to complete the requirements of the AHA BLS Instructor Course offered by Presence Health’s Training Center. The time and date of this course is to be determined and will take place at the beginning of the fall 2016 semester. This course costs $150.00 and will be covered by IEMS. Failure to complete the training process, teach the mandatory number of classes, or failure to meet contract requirements will breach the IEMS CPR-I contract and the instructor will be responsible for paying the course fee of $150.00. Once the initial cost of the course has been paid back by the new instructor by teaching six classes, you will be paid an hourly rate of $10. Instructors will be monitored for one class and will be evaluated by the Director of Education or the CPR Education Officer.
