Structure of the studies
The Erasmusm Mundus Joint Doctorate SEEDprovides in-depth training in the developmentand implementation of new state-of-the-artcomputational techniques for the modelling andsolutionofcutting-edgeengineeringproblems inindustry.Researchwillbecarriedoutoneormoreup-to-datetechniquessuchas:
Ì DiscontinuousGalerkin(DG)Ì FluidStructureInteraction(FI)Ì IsogeometricanalysisÌ X-FEMÌ Mesh-freemethodsÌ MortarMethodsÌ ErrorestimationÌ Multi-scaleanalysisÌ Meshgeneration
SEED program aims to meet industry currentneeds, where early product prototyping anddevelopment is now entirely carried outthrough numerical modelling, prior to physicalexperimentation of a few selected designs.
The complexities of such models require newcomputational approaches, which are the mainfocus of SEED research activities. As a result,SEEDcandidatesaimtocoverimportantareasinengineeringwhichinclude:
Biomedical engineering: vascular system,respiratorysystem,tissueengineering.Civil engineering: soil stability, foundations,earthquakeengineering,durability.Aerospace engineering: composite materials,turbulenceanalysis,aerodynamics.Environmental engineering: noise analysis,pollutionanalysis,riskmanagement.
Students will be also taught to develop coreentrepreneurialskillstosuccessfullymoveideasintocommercialpracticethroughaseriesoftransversalentrepreneurshipmodules,aspartof their training.Doctoralstudentswillbeimmersedinaninnovationenvironment through interaction with newlyestablished R&D spin-offs hosted within specialistincubatorunits.
Each SEED PhD student will visit a PrimaryInsitution (PI) and a Secondary Institution (SI),andwill be involved in a particular topic for 3-4years, depending on the visited institutions andtheevolutionoftheresearchactivity.
TheSEEDprogramisstructuredinthefollowing3phases:PhaseIatPI,1yearPhaseIIatSI,1yearPhaseIIIatPI,1-2yearsEachPhDstudentissupervisedbymainsupervisorat PI and a co-supervisor at SI. Programs with
strongparticipationmayincludeathirdsupervisorofoneoftheindustrialassociatedpartners.Training is completed through the followingaspects:Ì Researchskills (28ECTS*):basicandadvancedcomputationaltechniques.Ì Transferable skills (15 ECTS*): communicationskills, preparing research proposals, scientificwriting…Ì Summer Schools (6 ECTS*): attendance andparticipationinsummershoolÌ Industrial Training (11 ECTS*): entrepreneurshipandindustrialplacements

Admission requirements
FellowhipsTheconsortiumoffersapproximately9fellowshipsforthefullPhDperiod.Thefellowshipscoveranetmonthly salary not lower than 1400 EUR/month.Amobility allowance of up to 2500€/year will beprovidedfornon-Europeanstudents.
