Universal shape copying and controling tool
The universal mechanical shape copying and controlling measuring tool that we
present in this project is especially useful for modeling ships and airplanes, but not just
that. Because of its simplicity, you can use it for copying and controlling various curved
surfaces on working items. This tool is also convenient for checking out curves - for
example, while making a turning template, etc. Also, you can easily adjust construction
to your needs by changing some dimensions, or in another words you can decrease or
enlarge the whole assembly to suit the regular dimensions and tools for your line of
work.

2. Fasten the Spindle frame (Part 4) to the subassembly made in the previous step using Knurled screw
M5 x 8mm (Part 6), Wing screw M5 x 16mm (Part 9), Lock washer M5 (Part 7) and Hexagon nut M5
(Part 8).

Methods of Use
1. Draw one reference longitudinal line on your model.
2. Draw one reference transverse line, or more lines that are on some parallel distance one from
another on your model. You can draw more lines if the shape you are controlling or copying is
changing lengthwise, like in case of the ship hull. Of course, if you are making the grating
template for example, then you do not have to draw any reference lines.
3. Set the Movable ruler (Part 1) onto the longitudal line, and the Ruler frame (Part 2) onto the
first transverse line. The Movable ruler becomes movable when you loose the Knurled screw M5
x 8mm (Part 6), so if you notice that some of the Spindles (Part 5) are not touching the surface,
just move it a little and tighten the Knurled screw back.
4. Turn the Spindles (Part 5) until they touch the surface.
