WELCOME TO THE

UNIVERSAL DOCUMENTATION SYSTEM

The Range Commanders Conference (RCC) was founded inAugust 1961 upon the recommendation of the Commander,Naval Air Missile Test Center, Point Mugu, California, tothe Commanding General, White Sands Proving Ground, NewMexico, and tha Commander, Patrick Air Force Base, Flori-da. The name of the organization was changed to RangeCommanders Council in October :063. The RCC is comprisedof the Range Commanders, an Executive Committee, theTechnical Representatives, the Secretariat, and suchstanding and ad hoc groups as may be established by theRCC. Today, the RCC membership includes White SandsMissile Range, Pacific Missile Test Center, Eastern Spaceand Missile Center, Air Force Development Test Center, AirForce Flight Test Center, Kwajalein Missile Range, NavalWeapons Center, Western Space and Missile Center, Consoli-dated Space Test Center, Atlantic Fleet Weapons TrainingFacility, Tactical Fighter Weapons Center, Yuma ProvingGround, Electronic Proving Ground, Naval Air Test Center,Naval Underwater Systems Center, and Dugway ProvingGround. In addition, some 126 facilities and agencieslike National Aeronautics and Space Administration, De-fense Nuclear Agency, and Federal Aviation Administrationparticipate as RCC associate members.

The RCC Documentation Group has developed a UniversalDocumentation System (LIDS) to create better communicationsamong interacting agencies. The UDS endeavors to stan-dardize the efforts of all agencies who seek support Inconducting operations on the various ranges.

The illustrations in this Introduction have beenprepared to familiarize potential range users with the UDSwhich has been published as RCC documents In the 601-90series. An overview of the system Including descriptionsof the documentation levels, options with the system, andguidelines for the user have been Included.
