Introduction UNIVERGE Business ConneCT (BCT), NEC’s versatile Operator and Contact Center suite for UNIVERGE 3C is simple
and cost effective to deploy and manage. The user roles that it provides, Operator, Contact Center Agent and
Supervisor, utilize a single database which is synchronized with UNIVERGE 3C. BCT utilizes a common license with
the UNIVERGE 3C system. BCT is integrated with the UNIVERGE 3C system from a presence and Instant Messaging
(IM) perspective allowing agents or operators to see other UNIVERGE 3C user’s presence and to IM other UNIVERGE
3C user’s. Operators and Agents utilize a common mode of operation reducing the time required for cross-training. Up
to 10,000 agents and/or operators can be defined in the BCT system but licensing is based on a concurrent use basis
allowing other employees to easily take on the role of Operator or Agent when necessary. For instance in peak hours
some staff, including remote office workers, can act as Operator or Agent. Business ConneCT is a proven solution that
is ideally suited to meet the dynamic communication needs of any organization, small or large. It enables your
organization to communicate more efficiently and effectively – and become more productive and competitive!

Documentation All documentation can be found in the NEC Information Portal under the UNIVERGE3C/Sphericall Folder >
BCT and on the BCT Software DVD. These documents are also installed to the BCT server during
installation. Listed below are only some of the key documents which are useful for quotation and
configuration.

NEC Professional Services In order to install and configure the Business ConneCT solution, certified technicians are required. NEC
“highly” recommends that Associates avail themselves of NEC Professional Services for the first installation
they do with UNIVERGE 3C and with Business ConneCT. Though the Business ConneCT system is very
simple to program and the installation document is very clear and precise, it is important that technicians
follow the installation steps precisely and in the order recommended to ensure proper integration. Hence, we
do recommend that at a minimum, the first installation performed between the two systems be handled with
NEC Professional services.
NEC Professional Services will be available for quotation within the UNIVERGE 3C, BCT quoting page as
shown below.

If quoting NEC Professional Services (PS), it is important, prior to order, that you contact NEC PS in order to
schedule and get a PS ID assigned to this deployment. Contact can be done in one of the following ways,
listed in order of preference:
1. Go to NEC Information Portal > LINKS > Professional Services and complete a “Request for Quote”.
Include your MasterQuote number along with other requested information within the “Request for
Quote”. PS will then provide you with a PSID number. Once you have a PS ID, you can order the
solution and there should not be delays in order processing. Without the PS ID, delays in order
processing could ensue.
2. You can call 214-262-7188 but you will be asked to complete the “Request for Quote” mentioned
above as this allows for tracking of the PS deployment within the PS system.
3. Send an email to [email protected] but again, you will be asked to complete a “Request for
Quote” as mentioned above.
Technical Support To obtain technical assistance, an active software assurance agreement must be in place and the engineer placing the support call or online ticket must be certified on the Business ConneCT application. If you are an NEC Associate calling for technical assistance, call 800-852-4632 and select option “1”. You must have your valid NEC TECH ID available when calling for technical assistance. If you do not have a “Tech ID” or if you have forgotten your “Tech ID”, you may contact [email protected] and provide them with your name and Associate information. Associate end-users must contact their Associate for technical support. Direct end-users who are calling for technical assistance, call 877-463-2267. You must have an active software assurance agreement in order to obtain support free of charge, else support may be billable. You must call the “800” numbers listed above, or utilize NEC‟ s National Technical Assistance online access
to input trouble tickets. Online access can be found by going to http://www.necntac.com/.

Business ConneCT Licensing Model Business ConneCT licensing is included as part of
the UNIVERGE 3C licensing and resides on the
UNIVERGE 3C system. The UNIVERGE 3C
Licensing Server is used to generate these licenses
and the same XML License File used and imported
to the UNIVERGE 3C system is used to support the
BCT licensing. BCT looks to the UNIVERGE 3C
system in order to know what options and
capacities are enabled.
BCT has two types of licenses which can be
categorized into three groups:
Capacity Based Licenses are categorized
into the following two groups:
o Per User/Role licensing
o Per Item licensing
Functional License (On or Off licensing)
The following diagram depicts this licensing
structure and shows which options are available
both for Agents and Operators.
When you first install the BCT system, it will ask
you to “browse” to your license file or ask you if you
want to operate in evaluation Mode. Evaluation
mode allows you to operate with all features and capacities enabled for up to 90 days. If you don’t use all 90
days initially, the remainder of unused days remain and can be used later to allow a customer to evaluate
some new option. Evaluation mode is always available to help you “upsell” customers.
The following table provides the above information in a table format and also shows what corresponding
licenses on the UNIVERGE 3C side are required to support the licenses on the BCT side.

• NT-authentication of BCT-client (if client and server are not in the same domain, use basic authentication
i.e. the BCT-user should use password login)
• Database synchronization between Active Directory (AD) and BCT requires Aranea software. Aranea
must be installed on the BCT-server. BCT server and AD must be in the same domain.
• If SQL is installed on another server than BCT, the SQL-server and BCT-server must be in same
domain.

NOTES:
o The Database can be on the BCT Server or can be installed on a separate server. If installed
on a separate server, the separate server must be in the same Domain as the BCT server.
Additionally, if installing SQL Standard on the same BCT server, NEC recommends that it be
done in a virtualized environment where it resides in a separate VM instance from the BCT
server VM.
o For high traffic scenarios, it is best to have the database on a separate server from the BCT
server.

When the BCT size is above 150 Agents and/or Operators it is advised to use SQL Server instead of SQL Express.
For the calculation of the maximum database size please take into account that the BCT database grows in size by 700 bytes per routed Operator/Contact Center Call.
Notes on Virtualization:
Hyper-V 2008R2, VMware vSphere ESX(i) 4.1 or higher and XenServer 5.5 are
supported on a HW platform with Intel XEON 5530 processor or better.
Note that VMware vSphere ESX 4.1 is also supported as long as the functionality
(features) applied of the vSphere ESX platform does not exceed those offered by
VMware vSphere ESXi 4.1. Amongst others, this means that at this moment VMware
vMotion, HA (High Availability) and FT (Fault Tolerant) features are not supported.
