Defence Research & Development Organizati n (DRDO) has established a Centre of Excellence viz. Advanced

Centre of Research in of High Energy Materials (ACRH M) in University of Hyderabad as a collaborative effort, in the year

2005. The Centre is located in the premises of UoH and i funded by DRDO, The centre has entered Phase -II this year, The

purpose of this letter is to seek nominations for the po t of Director for the Centre ACRHEM, which will be a Professor

Grade position. A search committee formed for the pu se will go through the nominations and the appointment will be

made by the Vice Chancellor UoH.

The Centre ACRHEM has completed nearly 6 years since its inception with a funding of nearly 35 crores from

DRDO. It is a unique Centre of its kind in the country focusing on high end research in the areas of organic synthesis,

computational physics, laser techniques and applications modeling and mechanistic investigations on combustion/detonation

of HEMs. The experienced faculty of UoH has been part of the Centre and coordination is provided by High Energy

Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune of ORO . A high power council comprising senior scientists of DRDO and

academicians from UoH is monitoring the research activ ties of ACRHEM. A dedicated team of Research Fellows has been

appointed for undertaking the research activities of th Centre. Separate infrastructure has been created for the Centre

including buildings, equipments etc. The Centre comp es of advanced instrumentation, synthesis facility and computing

capability in addition to other state-of-art facilities for und rtaking the research programs. The Director of the Centre will have

the challenging task of managing the Centre as well as ordinating its research activities. He will provide an active interface

for various disciplines of research. The job will be highly otivating to excel in unexplored areas of research.

Brief on ACRHE (including job description)

Advanced Centre of Research in Hi h Energy Materials (ACRHEM) (A CollaborativeProgram of ORO and University of Hyderabad)

Defence Research and Development 0 anisation (DROO)- a premier research organization under

Ministry of Defence has created a Center of ceilence viz. Advanced Centre of Research in High Energy

Materials (ACRHEM) at University of Hyder bad(UoH), a Central University, under a memorandum of

collaboration. The vision of the Centre is provide fundamental understanding of combustion and

detonation processes as well as to discover and synthesize novel high energy materials (HEMs). The

objective of the Centre is to catalyze res arch efforts in these directions to keep pace with the

advancements made all over the globe in the ield of HEMs. The areas of research will include application

of computational physics, mathematical model ng, coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectra (CARS), and allied

techniques for mechanistic investigations 0 combustion and detonation as well as development of

techniques for LASER induced initiation of i nition/detonation. Quantum chemistry and development of

synthesis approaches for carboranes and po ynitro compounds as well as energetic polymers are other

areas of research. DRDO initially sanctioned budget of Rs 35 crares for the Centre under the Grants-in-

Aid scheme for a duration of 5 years (2005-2 10). Presently an additional fund of Rs 57 crares has been

sanctioned by DRDO for the period 2011-2016

Eminent scientists and academicians ar invited to apply for the post of Director of the Centre in the

pay scale of Rs. 37400-67000 (Grade Pay RS.10,OOOwith allowances and other benefits as per norms of

UoH). The position will offer an opportunity f r R&D work in the interesting and challenging areas at the

cutting edge of science and technology of HE s. The duration of appointment will initially be 5 years and

may be extended co-terminus with the ORO programme. The candidate can also join on deputation or

EOL or Foreign Service terms or sabbatic I leave after obtaining due clearance from the parent

Organization/ University/lnstitute.

Director"ACRHEM will manage the C ntre with an efficient management approach for timely

completion of the projects with active participa ion of the University faculty arid manpower employed- under

the project. The Director shall be governed y the academic and administrative norms of University of

Hyderabad. The remuneration of the Direct r will be from DRDO grants and accommodation will be

provided by University of Hyderabad, on terms applicable to a senior faculty of the University.

Responsibilities of Director are:

• Full time commitment to operate the C ntre

• .Coordination of the research activities or timely completion of the research programs

• Monthly interaction with HEMRL to en ure progress of the research activities in planned direction.

• Co-ordination between DRDO and Uni ersity of Hyderabad for Efficient functioning of the Centre

• Conduct of periodic review meetings nvolvinq Research Advisory Board and Governing Council

The prescribed essential educational qualificati n and experience as given below

Essential Qualification and Experience:

1. Doctorate degree in relevant area of Science or Engineering from a recognized University oracademic institute

2. 10 years research experience, exciusi of Ph.D duration, after obtaining either a graduate degreein Engineering or a postgraduate degre in Science in areas relevant to the activities of the Centre

3. Sizeable number of publications in rep ted and refereed journals

Desirable

1. Research and development experien e in the areas of synthesis, combustion, modeling anddevelopment of High Energy Materials.

2. Track record of handling applied resear h projects.
