Apostles’ Creed

1.We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.

2.We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God the Father our Lord and Saviour, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered on the Cross by Crucifixion , died and buried, descended into Hades, on the third day arose, taught His disciples for 40 days of the mysteries of the kingdom of God, ascended up and into Heaven, and as the High Priest sitteth at the right hand of God the Almighty, from thence He will come again to take the Members of the Elect unto Himself and on the last Judgement Day to judge the Quick and the Dead.

3.We believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Universal Apostolic Church, the Communion with the Saints, forgiveness of Sins and the Resurrection to life everlasting (eternal).

4.We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of His Church, which He rules and sustains through the Holy Spirit and to which He sent and continues to send His Apostles.

Ascension

The bodily ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ to heaven represented the turning point for mankind, for God’s plan  to restore all of His blessings. Our Lord’s labour on earth had been a battle and sacrifice to overcome the enemies of God, those of sin, hell and death. These battles were all won in great humiliation. Victory or war is useless unless a better way can begin. Our Lord had this constantly in mind – Philippians 2:5-9 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man,  he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.” Despite the glorious resurrection from the grave, our Lord maintained the office of servant and teacher, as He knew now that the gentile nations had been given into His hands for preparation for the Kingdom of God,  teachers would have to be sent to all nations. Acts 1:2-3 “Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the Apostles whom he had chosen: to whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.”  His ascension would become the appropriate connecting link between His humiliation and now glorification. His ascension was foretold in many ways throughout the bible. Psalm 68:18-19 “Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men: yea for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.”

Whitsunday Pentecost

We have celebrated the birth of God’s new creation, the Church, at Easter when Christ’s breath began the work, to prepare this creation for the coming Kingdom of God. For forty days our Lord taught His chosen ministry – Acts 1:2-3 “Until the day in which he was taken up. After that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the Apostles whom he had chosen. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.” We have celebrated the Lord’s ascension to the right hand of God as the head of the church. Psalm 16:11 “Thou wilt show me the path of life; in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” At this time we celebrate and give thanks for the fulfilment of Christ’s promise to the Apostles – Acts 1:5 “For John truly baptised with water; but ye shall be baptised with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.” Now that Christ had become that link between God and man as our High Priest forever, repentance and remission of sins provided the means that the Holy Ghost could now be sent as the labouring diety on the earth. We read Acts 2:2-4 “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance.” So began the teaching work of the Holy Ghost to this new creation. Every Jew present on that day, no matter what language they spoke, could understand the message that a new way in God’s dealing had begun. A similar event is recorded to show this gift was also available to all the Gentile nations, when Apostle Peter was called to the household of Cornelius. Acts 10:44-45 “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.” When the Apostle reported this to the other disciples, we read Acts 11:18 “When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”
