“Tribute To Our Disabled Veterans”

On Saturday, November 19, 2011, The United States Joint Service Color Guards, The
Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guards, New
Directions Color Guards, United States Army Color Guards, American Legions Jackie
Robinson Post 252 Color Guard, Fremont High School MCJROTC, Crenshaw High
School MCROTC, Los Angeles Sheriff Department Explorers and many others joined
Operation Confidence as they hosted United We Serve “A Tribute To Our Disabled
Veteran”, on the grounds of the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Special thanks to the
Congressional Medal of Honor Society for supporting the efforts of Operation
Confidence.
Operation Confidence goal is to follow the mission of First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden who unveiled the Joining Forces Initiative, a comprehensive campaign to support our Veterans and military families that encourages all Americans to come together and support the families through service in our local communities in any way we can.

Department of Veterans Affairs Mobil Vet Center Van
The Department of Veterans Affairs Mobil Vet Center Van was on location to provide one-on-one family care and marriage counseling for veterans and their dependants.
The International Lions Eye Mobile United States Post Office Postal Van
Additional vans on location were the Lions Eye Mobile Van providing eye examines and the U.S Post Office providing postal services.

For over 20 years Operation Confidence has been in the community advocating for people with physical disabilities. Concerned about the overwhelming number of servicemen and women returning home with a physical or mental disability and found very little recourses, Operation Confidence as a civilian organization felt the need to do its part to help.

Major General James Comstock graciously stood on behalf of
Major General Peter Gravett who was the scheduled as keynote
speaker. At the last minute Major General Gravett was called away
by President Barack Obama to
prepare for the many troops
returning home from Iraq at
the end of the year.

Appreciation .
Mr. Jin Ok Kim,
Operation
Confidence United
We Serve Chairman
and event sponsor
gave a heartfelt
speech in Korean, translated by an interpreter. Mr. Kim
traveled from Seoul Korea to attend the event.
In 2010, with the support of the Korean War Participating
Association, Mr. Kim invited 60 veterans of the Korean
War from US to commemorate 60 years of the Korean
War. He gave a tour of memorable places related to the
Korean War.
Councilman Bernard Parks whose district includes
the Los Angeles Sports Arena spoke on behalf of long
time friendship with Major General Gravett and
Consuella Mackey. He presented a beautiful resolution
for Major General Gravett and Mr. Kim signed by the
entire Los Angeles City Council. Mr. Bindra presented
Councilman Parks with Operation Confidence’s
Certificate of Appreciation
Colonel Gregory F. Jones, spoke about the troops
returning home that day from Iraq. After our event he would
greet and welcome them home. Commander Jones was from
146th
Operations Group and 146th
Airlift Wing located at
Channel Islands Air National Guard Station, California. .
Assistant Secretary Kathleen Martinez,
Department of Labor Disability Employment
Policy traveled from Washington D.C to attend the
event. Secretary Martinez was nominated by
President Barack Obama to be the third Assistant
Secretary for Disability Employment Policy and
was confirmed by the U.S.
Senate on June
25, 2009.
Mr. Siva Yam, President USA China Chamber of
Commerce traveled from China to attend the event.
He shares a long time friendship with Consuella
Mackey and strong supporter of Operation
Confidence efforts. .
Charles J. Taylor represented
State Controller John Chiang and gave a moving and
informative speech and presented
a resolution for Major General
Gravett, Mr. Jin Ok Kim and
Operation Confidence. President

Rutedge gave his speech about the history of the Military Order of
the Purple Hearts, awards given to members of the arm forces who
were wounded by hands of the enemy.
Matt Davison, (center) New Directions, Inc. &
Operation Confidence’s Military Chairperson spoke
eloquently about the services provided by New
Directions. Matt has been a true friend of Operation
Confidence.
Lea Seago, Secretary, National Women's Army Corps
Veteran's Association (WAC) traveled from Phoenix,
Arizona to attend the event.
She now serves as President of the Roadrunner Chapter #119,
WAC Veterans' Association in the Phoenix area and National
WAC Vets Association, Corresponding Secretary and
member of the WAC Vets since 1979
Rea Cichocki, State Commander for the California
American Indian Veteran’s Association. She traveled from
Sacramento, CA. to attend the event and represented the
Native American Veterans and the Native American
community..
