Written essay subjects for Dan candidates are as follows: CHO DAN: What Soo Bahk Do means to me? E DAN: What does your Dan Bon mean to you and how does it relate to the Moo Duk Kwan discipline? SAM DAN: Describe the essential characteristics of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan which make it unique and

differentiates it from all other styles.

The following candidate required items should be postmarked no later than Monday, April 8, 2013 to: Region 9 Administrator, PO Box 81164, San Diego, CA 92138-1164

1) Application for Dan Promotion form (typed) 2) Proof of current Federation membership and a copy of 1st Gup certificate or Dan status (I.D. card) 3) Two photos (small I.D. size) 4) All required essays* (1000 words or more, typed, doubled spaced). 5) Proper fee ($355-for Cho, E, and Sam Dan applicants) 6) Written Exam/Volume 1 Study Guide 7) Region 9 Waiver

*Instructors are reminded of the World Moo Duk Kwan’s Vision Participation essay requirement for all candidates.

The Federation will only recognize Dan Promotions in Region 9 through this Dan Shim Sa process. Please be reminded of the requirements outlined in the 2009 version of the Gup and Dan Manual. 2013 National Festival & Dan Leadership Convention July 18-20th Cherry Hill, NJ

The Kwan Jang Nim and TAC have refocused the National Festival agenda to provide Dans and Ko Dan Ja with expanded social time and specialized high level training in areas that have previously received less attention. The absence of Gup competition provides an entire day of additional time for senior level training and socializing with Saturday evening culminating in a dinner cruise on the Philadelphia river.
