The projection of the map extends to 60 degrees south latitude, and includes five concentric circles".

The main purpose of UNESCO, the UN agency based in Paris, is to contribute to peace, human development and security in the world through education, science and culture in order to recognize and preserve the diversity. UNESCO is the only organization in the UN system which provides for the establishment of committees within the Member States.

Portugal joined the UNESCO in 1965, withdrew this International Organization in 1972, rejoined in September 11, 1974 and created its National Commission in 1979, by Decree-Law 218/79 of 17 July, under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where based.
