Hello Dear Church Family, My prayer and hope are that you are well as you read these lines. A question I have for you though: "What would you say you are thankful for this year?" There may be many reasons to be grateful or there may not. Gratitude is one of these things in life we all have to learn. Saying "thanks" isn't enough, but it is a good start. God, through the Bible, wants us to be thankful. Read 1 Thessalonians 5: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." ESV. I think the phrase "give thanks," from the above Scripture, means three things. First, it is a choice we make on a daily basis. That is what Paul, the author of this letter, I believe, is intending to convey to us all. You and I have to choose to "give thanks," not only when things go well, but also when they do not. We have to decide to be thankful all the times (bad or good circumstances)! Second, the choice to "give thanks" means a way of life. You embrace an attitude and character of being grateful in all seasons. Every day, remind yourself as you start and end your day to be thankful for everything. Last, but not least, the phrase "give thanks" stands for giving back to God and others. We have to show our gratitude through our generosity and hospitality. Give of your time, skills and resources by serving others. Invite somebody to Church, small group or your home. This Thanksgiving, how will you show gratitude? Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Pastor Emmanuel

There is a category of books in our church library called “Personal Growth”. These books promote the many aspects of life as its own education. We have opportunities to constantly learn lessons and grow spiritually and intellectually. Come into the library sometime and see what there is for you. Here are some samples.

Deb Morrow, Church Librarian

Mysterious Ways: More Than Coincidence by the Editors of Guideposts “is sure to encourage you, inspire you, and reassure you that God is always with you.”*

In Adam Hamilton’s Why?: Making Sense of God’s Will the reader is given guidance in answering the following questions. “Where is God when the innocent suffer? Where is God when my prayers go unanswered? Why is God’s will so hard to understand?”*

“Let Max Lucado show you how to make the shift of a lifetime. How to bump your life off self-center. How to be changed and experience the meaning-changed life you were meant to have. Your discovery starts here.”* It’s Not About Me: Rescue From the Life We Thought Would Make Us Happy.

Is It Time to Make a Change?: Positive Thoughts for When Life Presents You With a New Direction by Deanna Beisser is a small book of verses. “Everyone’s life is a journey/ and sometimes/ the roads that we travel/ are more mysterious and magical/ than we ever imagined.”

“If you believe your life is a cause for condemnation rather than celebration… If you are weighted down by the guilt of things done- and undone…If you are haunted by a sense of failure to please your heavenly Father… Let this book set you free!” The Birthright: Out of the Servant’s Quarters Into the Father’s House by John Sheasby with Ken Gire.

And finally, Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul by John & Stasi Eldredge and Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul by John Eldredge are check out reading possibilities for your lifelong learning and growing.
